I predict the Expos will win the Superbowl next year.
2002-10-24 01:02:30 PM
Fenway needs to be torn down and rebuilt. The seats are too small, the rows are too close together, there are obstructed views from many seats, and the facility is falling apart.
2002-10-24 01:02:38 PM
Unfortunately, the Red Sox have said it was complete nonsense. Too bad, I already own an Expos jersey.
2002-10-24 01:03:40 PM
Montreal needs regime change.
2002-10-24 01:03:42 PM
"This could be a win-win-win for all the parties involved except the 200 season ticket-holders in Montreal," the source said.

That was the best part of the article.
2002-10-24 01:04:26 PM
200 season ticket holder. Heh, now that's funny.

Kudos to the headline writer.

That is all.
2002-10-24 01:05:23 PM
Celtics, Bruins, Redsox, Pats AND the Expos!
2002-10-24 01:05:37 PM
Hey, Boston fans would have another team to whine about! Apparently, the current level of whining wasn't enough! Cool!
2002-10-24 01:06:37 PM
Give us this day our weekly speculation about where the Expos will play next season.

Hey, I have a crazy idea. How about Montreal? Is it really the end of the world if they play another season in the mausoleum in front of 7,000 people a night? Who cares?
2002-10-24 01:16:02 PM
Besides seeing the Yankees win the World Series, there would be nothing better than having the Boston Expos win one before the Red Sox do. I'd laugh my ass of.
2002-10-24 01:18:33 PM
Two HUGE problems with this potential deal:

*What about broadcasting rights? Would NESN carry Expos games?
*What about ticket prices? Fine, I'll shell out $18 for a bleacher seat at a Sox game, but the Expos? Naw, funk dat, they ought to be cheaper, but then again, it shows obvious favoritsm. Like with twins that don't look alike, the Expos will be left empty on prom night while the Sox get wasted in the back of John Henry's geo metro.

Here's what you do:

1. Get rid of Fidel Castro and restore capitalism to Cuba.

2. Move the team to Havana.

3. Sign as many Cuban players from MLB as you can that are still good. Might want to think about staying away from the arm-dead El Duque as a starter, but think about him maybe in a relief or coaching role.

4. Watch buckets of money roll in. People in Cuba are mad about baseball. Even Castro loves it. (In fact, he tried out for the Yankees, who declined to offer him a minor league contract, so he went back to Cuba, then he got bitter, started hating capitalism, threw a revolution, and came very close to getting us nuked. So, if you think about it, that was the closest we've come to nuclear holocaust, and it's pretty much the Yankees's fault.)
2002-10-24 01:23:32 PM
I find this very difficult to believe.

Um, the Bosox might suck (might? they do...) but the Expos have alot going for them right now. Colon, Vasquez, Vidro, and of course Vladimir Guerrero who is the best player in baseball, bar none. I hope they come to NoVa because i will drop any sum of money for season tickets. That would be 10 times cooler than the Olymics coming to DC.
2002-10-24 01:46:51 PM
What a great Idea... Here is another..... The Boston Brewers. Fenway have room for one more?
2002-10-24 01:56:35 PM
Since the Sox are raising ticket prices about 7% throughout Fenway (save for bleacher seats, which are going down in price)...if the Expos play their home games here, the Red Sox organization looks to rake in an additional...

...$75 in ticket sales next year.
2002-10-24 01:59:33 PM
We can't let the Expos play in Fenway! All the negative energy from two cursed teams in one stadium, let alone city, may throw the universe out of balance causing Boston to become the center of a black hole destined to engulf the earth. Oh wait, I forgot about Chicago. Never mind.
2002-10-24 02:02:58 PM

I believe it was the Senators that Castro tried out for.
2002-10-24 02:14:04 PM
Nabb1 - That would be pretty kewl. How about the Habana Cigarros.

Rocko - The Brewers play AA ball on one of their good days. Bud Selig should have moved them to the NY-Penn League instead of trying to kill off the Twins. I can see it now: The Utica Brewers. Hey, our beer is better than Milwaukees's beer.
2002-10-24 02:17:45 PM
Bud Selig.

Worst. Leader. Ever.
2002-10-24 02:22:15 PM
Darth - The Expos aren't cursed. They're just from Montreal.
2002-10-24 02:45:55 PM
Duquette used to get a lot of former Expos players anyway (Pedro, Urbina, Hermanson, Lansing). Now you can have the players he couldn't get.

And Lucchino would deny it until the World Series was over anyway. No major announcements are made until after the final game.

You make an excellent point. BUT. I live in the land of the Lakers and the Clippers. They both play at the Staples Center. Let me quote you prices off of the teams' respective website.

Lakers individual ticket prices:
$22, $32, $57.50, $72.50, $105, $150, $165.

Clippers individual ticket prices:
$10, $22, $32, $45, $60, $75, $90, $90, $120

So, not only are the tickets far less for Clipper games in the same arena, but they divide the sections differently (7 sections vs. 9 sections) depending on who's playing.

Favoritism or not, it's a reality.
2002-10-24 03:36:19 PM

have the Expos play in four stadiums. They will be the "Exposition"

NL East: @ Christina Aguilera's vagina
NL Central: @KC
NL West: @Seattle
AL: @Montreal

simple, eh?

2002-10-24 03:38:18 PM

First, even if that's true, you know factual accuracy has no business being in a Fark thread.

Second, I still stand by my theory.
2002-10-24 03:54:45 PM

I like your idea, but if that doesn't work, I liked the idea of sending them to San Juan. It can't be worse than DC (failed twice, where are they going to play, etc.) or Portland.

I just made sure that next time you are picking up a chick with the old "Did you know Castro tried out for the yankees" line, and she rejects you because she knows that it was the giants. (Upon further review I too was wrong)
2002-10-24 04:02:18 PM
"This could be a win-win-win for all the parties involved except the 200 season ticket-holders in Montreal," the source said.

How the hell does that work? "Sacre bleu, Pierre! WTF are you doing!? I said Alouette season tickets, you silly king you!"

Otherwise that 200 is sure an optimisitic number and very likely matches the number of season ticket holders the Brewers have.

2002-10-24 04:03:33 PM
Wow, as a boston resident, i cant wait for another asinine rivalry like the sox and the yankees which only exists in boston.....Expos and the...Diamondbacks(first team that came to mind, actually, then need to have a rivalry with a team that will always beat them like the yankees and the sox....who is good? i dont follow baseball? thats who the boston expos would fued with.
2002-10-24 04:04:46 PM
Hey, the Expos don't suck!

Let's not burden them with the Boston curse now :-)
2002-10-24 04:10:22 PM
Mmm... The Giants. Thanks for the info, Noise77. Now that connects two of the most infamous people in modern times: Fidel Castro and Barry Bonds.

And thanks for the advice on the pick up line. That's the last time I use a line suggested by my wife.
2002-10-24 04:15:59 PM

Now i have a reason to hate the yankees...because being better than the red sox just wasnt doing it for me
2002-10-24 04:23:31 PM

The Bruins deseperately need a regime change. Please sell the team, Jacobs!

I agree, I told myself that I wouldn't go to a game this year, that lasted all of 3 weeks. I'm going tonight, but only because it's Terry O'Reilly night.
2002-10-24 04:45:11 PM
Great, so they decided that having traffic farked in boston 3 days a week over the summer wasnt enough. Now it needs to be 6 days a week that I cant find parking? Who was the absolute asshat who broached this idea?
2002-10-24 04:46:23 PM
I think people should also note that the Expos only have 200 ticket season holders because most people in Montreal didn't expect the Expos to return this past season, never mind next year.

The Expos actually increased ticket sales this season. The same can't be said for a lot of American teams. Philadelphia, I'm looking at you...
2002-10-24 05:14:30 PM
I love the expos but they're getting shiat on in montreal right now. I'd almost go as far as to say montreal doesn't deserve them. But the fans in Montreal have been screwed over so many times by owners who said they'd build a new stadium that they also had every reason to give up on the team. It's a real shame since if they move to DC I'd be afraid Vlad or Vidro might get shot by the.. oh fark it, too easy.
2002-10-24 05:20:18 PM
I just want to get this straight....

Boston can now support *2* baseball teams?

New York can support 2 baseball teams.

LA area can support 2 baseball teams.

Sleazy-arse Baltimore can support a (sucky POS) team.

But... Washington, DC could *never* support a team?!?!?!?!

To that I say:

** Fark Bud Selig!

** Fark Peter Angelos (AKA: Mr. scum sucking pig farkin' slimy ass mofo)!

** Fark Baseball!

I'm not heading back to a MLB stadium until DC gets their props. See you at the Keys games... or better yet...

Come see the Thunderbolts play next season at Blair Stadium (finished third in the Clark Griffith League) in Silver Spring, MD. Now that's gooooooooooooood baseball!

Did I say fark Peter Angelos? I did... twice? GOOD.
2002-10-24 07:02:08 PM
Fidel Castro didn't try out for the Yankees. He tried out for the Washington Senators back when they still existed (I don't remember if it was the Senators that became the Twins or the Senators that became the Rangers.

Maybe if they combined both teams they could make the playoffs next year. It would only add the equivalent of useless piece of shiat Mannny Ramirez's salary to the Sox payroll.

Leave retards like this in Canada. Maybe I can buy the Expos... what are they worth in American dollars... about $17.85?

The Senators became the Twins.
2002-10-24 09:13:45 PM
RadiationDude: there have been two incarnations of the became the twins, one became the rangers
