I wonder what percentage of the stuff on eBay is actually stolen. I'd guess at least 25%.

um, your internet business? yeah, it's "located" in any state where you hold offices. Yes, you'll have to pay taxes, and abide by the rules of that state. Don't want to charge sales tax? Locate your offices in Oregon or Delaware (if you can survive the toxic sludge that is Delaware). Don't want to get an auctioneers license? Don't locate your office in PA.
The state & the proprietor need to do some thinking...

For my business I had to buy the correct licenses, pay taxes and fees and report income. Why shouldn't she?

I must reiterate.

First, this is a sucky law. However, you must to pick and choose who to apply it to. Just because she is a PR nightmare doesn't mean she shouldn't have to obey the same laws.

It terrifies me that the Representative they quoted wanted to find someone uglier to arrest for the same crime. Use the law, change it, or abolish it. Do NOT apply it selectively.

Also, we had an auction when we settled my grandfather's estate. We were the sellers. There were buyers. There was an auction service. In my brain here, she may have a commercial enterprise, but she should not need an aucioneer's license.

DarthBrooks: Good thing she's not in Virginia - - they'd get her for a business license for every *type* of merchandise she sold.

In Virginia, if you sell clothes and tools, you need a tool-seller's business license AND a clothing business license. Serslah.

/don't carry *me* back to Old Virginny.

The only good thing about this is it got the lawmakers off their buts to put together a couple of laws that would fix this.

The fact that the paper was told that the fine could only be as high as $2k might mean if they went after more from her she could use the story in her defense.

As for this yeas she is a business, and it looks like she did not apply for even THAT license, which she should have done- just a general home business license would have been better than nothing
