Which one are they burning?

2008-01-29 12:09:58 AM
The ironic thing is there's no mention of a single incident of burning the new flag in protest. Maybe they are simply all out of matches from all the American flags they've burned over the years.

The new one looks like an AT&T add. More bars in more places.

So they removed three stars and changed the font. I'd say this is petty, but I've seen people react worse than this to rearranging clip art and fonts on a f*cking newsletter.

Actually, they've already changed the font to the one shown on the new flag.

The Kurds have been flying this flag as the "Flag of Iraq" since 1963.

Maybe it's because they are not a united country and therefor they can not agree on the image that represents the directions they wish to take "their" country in? Maybe? Perhaps?

The phrase Allahu Akbar (God is greatest), added in green Arabic script on Saddam's orders during the 1991 Gulf War, remains, but no longer in his handwriting.

On the new flag, the symbol on the left appears to be a graphic representation of a rocket launcher, and the symbol on the right a graphic representation of skyscrapers. As others have said, the symbol in the middle is giving the finger.

Now, that can't be right!

Surely this (new window)would be the best design for a new Iraqi flag?

That did not go very well though.

Funny how the people complaining seem to be:

a) Sunnis
b) Fallujahns (Sunni)
c) A resident of Baghdad (capital of Sunni controlled gov't)

I sense a pattern. It's almost like those who were in power but then NO LONGER in sole control are bitter that the Baathist symbols have been removed.

That's some fine, unbiased, reportin' there, Lou....

How is that flag allowed? You can't have or on argent. Metal should not cover metal, nor tincture cover tincture. Anyone heraldry-geekier that can explain how this is allowed in a sane world?

Yes, they must honour their unique ensign.

Incidentally, Upper Volta has to be the coolest name for a country ever. It's a shame they changed it to Burkina Faso - but they've still got a cool name for their capital, Ouagadougou.

Change it to something noone can protest against, like a plain white flag, no colors or markings...oh wait, that's the French flag.

I love how the original new Iraqi flag:

THIS. It is people like this who help make this country better off. Stand up for your country and remember what makes you, you. Be it good bad or indifferent our history shapes us. Ignoring bits and pieces of your history only helps to repeat it.

by we do you mean you and your 4 friends? because i dont believe you have a say in what happens with the military...
dont you think the citizens of iraq could do without your scrutany. i can see this all steams to 9/11 why u have such anger against iraq, however if you had a braincell to run off you would realise that 9/11 was caused by muslim extremists which excludes the majority of iraq. thousands of people died in iraq all whome will be remembered from all armys. iraq only want theyre country back instaid why dont you have a go at your president or w/e and tell him to pull out of iraq like allot of people are doing....
