oldebayer: The ironic thing is there's no mention of a single incident of burning the new flag in protest. Maybe they are simply all out of matches from all the American flags they've burned over the years.

Actually, both flags say "Allah is Great" on 'em.

Burning a flag that sez that means being stoned to death and not in a good way.

Think the point to getting rid of the old flag was the fact that one of the three green stars stood fer "Socialism". When the entire raison d'etre of the Iraqi War was to de-nationalise the oilfields that change makes nothing but sense.

/Nice color scheme. You know who else went with a Red, White and Black flag?

This explains the stupidity of the old new Iraqi flag. OK, so it does have the Israeli color scheme, and I'm sure Wolfowitz absolutely loved it. Zionist conspiracy? I doubt it. Was the guy who conquered Iraq a Jew? Yes.

All I really see is the U.S.'s massive arrogance in proposing that as a flag. What an incredible insult

Riche: Cagey B: Ooo ooo! Can we have "God is Great" written in Mike Huckabee's handwriting on our flag?

Actually, I'm a little surprised the social conservatives haven't tried to slap "In God We Trust" somewhere on the flag in the past seven years or so.

If the courts have (somehow) decided "In God We Trust" is NOT a religious statement and can be put on our money, then why not?

It IS the official national motto, after all.

Maybe that's because adding the national motto to the flag is as equally tedious and retarded as removing the motto from everything else. Did you have another theory?

"It's shameful. Thousands of Iraqis lost their lives so this flag could fly.... Changing the flag ignores their sacrifice,"

At least it's good to see we are not the only country with nationalistic idiots.

We fight for the country or freedoms not for a stupid piece of cloth.

if_i_really_have_to: How is that flag allowed? You can't have or on argent. Metal should not cover metal, nor tincture cover tincture. Anyone heraldry-geekier that can explain how this is allowed in a sane world?

I'm both geeky and sleep-deprived enough to answer that.

It's a borderline case, because the or does sit on top of the colors at the top and bottom; whether that was allowed or not depends entirely on where you're looking at.

In any case, there's plenty of precedent for throwing the rules out entirely for flags. Argentina, Cyprus, Egypt, Tajikistan, The Phillipines, and Uruguay already have or-on-argent charges on their flags. Also, Albania, Bangladesh, Guinea-Bissau, Malawi, and Morocco have color-on-color. And Malta has the distinction of having argent-on-argent (silver-gray on white). At this point, it's a bit late to complain even if there was someone to complain to.

How about we get the troops out and hold a Civil war this year? Winner gets to pick the new flag.

Says you. The American Flag tells me exactly how to behave everyday. Sometimes I go outside and wave at strangers who hate me all day, sometimes I fold myself up into a paper football and sleep in a glass case. But I am NEVER, and I mean NEVER to touch the ground, lest I be burned ceremoniously.

See, I like that the new Georgia flag is the way it is. True Southerners know it's really the original CSA "Stars and Bars" flag, while idiots don't know any better and whine about it. That right there is a great way to figure out who to kick out and who to keep.
