Routers

1) They don't mention what router, but say it's popular in mexico, big meh.

Phishers

2) Phishing is NOT 'NEW' by any stretch of the term.

Click fraud

Neither is click fraud.

About the only interesting thing is the router thing. But due to the lack of info, it's a big meh. Tech articles with no tech details = shiatty tech articles.

2)Login to router, user: admin, password: blank
3)Setup up port forwarding to PCs connected to router
4)Bust out your mad Haxor skills on idiot's pc

Heh, I've got an ancient pentium with win95 set as the DMZ host on an wireless router. The admin user and pass have been changed from default, but that is the only 'security' I've got on it. The computer contains nothing but a clean install of 95. Far as I can tell no one has ever accessed the box, but I've always wondered what they would think was going on if they did.

Hey, here's an idea. Change emails back on plain text only with no support for html tags. You can solve so many problems by doing this. End users are always going to click links and images that they are not supposed to. Just don't let them have the opportunity to do it.

after articles tagline about clever rats I was tempted to make a stainless steel rat reference, but I feel as though that would be taking the name of James Bolivar diGriz in vain.

Ok, most of these are email related, and since I have my email all web-based and do not download anything locally I should be able to miss this wave.

My router is as secured as possible with the defaults changed (which that email script probably uses).

I am in your router right now. The logs seem to suggest that you look at alot of shemale porn. Interesting.

Why didn't someone tell me about this? I could've made some money wiping their hard drives and fixing their internets.

I used to live by there. Was it just me, though, or did that article read like satire to anyone else?

THIS, for fark's sake, THIS.
What is the point of having html in your email? It's as horrendous as those "custom rings" Verizon offers users, subjecting everyone who calls them to their godawful 2nd-hand recording quality, not to mention the obvious lack in taste.

I bought my parents a Netgear router last summer and that wouldn't work on it. Remote management was turned off by default. To access the router via wifi, you first had to gain physical access.
