Precious little snowflake could have owned all of the Principals stuff had he gone to school and slipped on the ice and hurt himself.

/Why am I the only one that thinks of that?
//Why do I loves me some slashies?

Probably because the precious little snowflake (despite the name) was never allowed outside when there was a hint of ice/snow....

Hero tag missing?????? Grew up in southwest and northwest PA and now live in southside VA. These people down here are wimps and drive poorly in all weather conditions. Hell, there are people complaining about bus drivers in Southcentral NC for pausing in an ice storm. Where I grew up, the buses would just keep running bringing students to school.

2008-01-23 11:09:02 PM
I went to the University of North Dakota. In 2004 we had a solid week of -60 wind chill. The campus bus service stopped running because the buses refused to start, meaning everyone had to walk everywhere. They didn't cancel class. Suck it up.

We're talking about snow in this thread. Who cares about wind chill?

Just kidding. I used to get days off for approaching hurricanes in FL obviousl. Now, my son gets days off here in north Alabama due to thunderstorms. Geez, we had thunderstorms daily in FL at times along with occasional tornadoes/waterspouts too. We never got no thunderstorm days.

I hate to say it, but I agree with the biatch in the recording; damned snot nosed kids thinking they're above the common-sense rules of decorum and decency.

GET OFF MY LAWN AND GO BACK TO SCHOOL!!!!

RocketRod: What's a "snow day"?

It's a day where not only is it very cold, but there is several feet of crystallized water blanketing the ground. High wind speeds contribute to the rapidly deteriorating conditions.

This also has the side effect of being bleach in the gene pool as well as eliminating any homeless people. The stupid either die or move south and the homeless people are smart enough to move south.

People like me shrug our shoulders, put on the cold weather gear, and get the shovels out. I delivered newspapers through several blizzards, including the 96-97 winter. The only blizzard that kept me inside was "Holly Hannah", the last of the 96-97 blizzards. The only reason I couldn't deliver was because the van that delivered the bundles ended up in a snowbank. I often dressed in 5 or more layers to ward off the cold. (Long underwear, t-shirt, sweatshirt, sweatshirt, coat, snowsuit.)

As an added bonus, Hannah was also an ice storm. For those of you living farther south, imagine everything outside being covered in a quarter inch of ice. Needless to say that played hell with the trees and power grid.

/Got down to -25F last Sunday.
//Currently -15F outside

I can't believe he had his number listed. Most teachers do not, for reasons just like this one.

Kids needs to STFU and get to school.

You'll get over it.

Good on her. If he can call her and say what he wants on her machine, then turnabout is fair play. The kid's 17. He thought he was being sooooo clever, and would never get called on it. Fark you junior, go to school.

Kids these days got it so easy! I had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, walk uphill to work both ways, five hundred degrees outside, snow up to your waist, then work twenty-nine hours a day down at the mill and pay the millowner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves, singing Hallelujah!

Ha Ha, I larfed. Stupid little brat. Reminded me of the scene in It's a Wonderful Life when the Husband of Zuzu's teacher punched Jimmy Stewart in the face.

And the next time you talk to my wife like that, you'll get
worse. She cried for an hour. It isn't enough she slaves teaching
your stupid kids how to read and write, and you have to bawl her
out,eh.

Meanwhile, back in reality, this guy gets fired cause his wife called the student body a bunch of snot nosed brats. That right there has got to make for one awkward PTA meeting.

I heard this, and just had the image of a 48 year old WASP with a Pomeranian dog running about and barking in a $650,000 home. This lady was probably pissed because her spa treatment was cancelled due to the weather.

Here in Portland, Ore, we have a week of ice bowl weather, and schools are cancelled without hesitation. A couple years ago, we had a really bad ice storm. (Go to Break.com and find the video of dancing cars, amusing). Anyway, every school closed down, except for a couple. Parents were um, what's the word, oh yeah, PISSED. Their kids were STUCK at school, litterally. None of the teachers bothered to show up. By 10 in the morning, and about 100 car accidents, the state police closed the freeways and main roads. Needless to say, it'll be a long time before that mistake is made again in Portland.

Er, unless I'm reading the story wrong, yes, she did call the kid to say that crap. It was left on his voicemail. From the sounds of it, it's in response to a message that he left on their voicemail.

SilentStrider: they get snow in fairfax county virginia?

Believe it or not, yes. However, on the rare occasion that we do, people react as if it's the second coming of Jesus.
And even if it's just a dusting, people drive around here as though it's a blizzard.

Sounds like a bunch of grumpy old timers in this thread.

Here's how I see it: Calling an adminstrator because you think there should be a school cancellation due to weather is over the top but if done professionally and politely completely in the bounds of decent and socially acceptable behavior. I personally think he should have sucked it up but that's just me.

The real issue is the hypocritical nature of this "woman". She is the one who sounds like a snotty brat by stooping to the level of intimidation and name calling. The administrator should be embarassed he married such an immature "lady". Am i the only one who felt there was something ironic about "how dare you call some one's house"? I bet the child's phone message was at least a little bit nicer. One point for the snot nosed brat who knew how to upload an audio clip to the internet.

A school superintendent that is in the office at 6:30 am and coming home late every night is either getting some on the side or a moron. judging by my wife, it might be both. 3 inches of snow is not a snow day in south jersey, unless it turns to ice. but i wouldn't let a southern drive on ice, crappy drivers on a traction-less road is a scary sight.

2008-01-24 04:29:15 AM
Sure, the kid was a whiny pansy in the first place for calling, but she's no better for calling back and leaving her own little tale of woe. What's better is that her husband totally defends her and stands by his 'late meetings' story.
That being said, for those who call the 'easy snow day' areas wimps, you don't realize where the real threat lies. It's not the snow, it's the idiots in the snow! I lived in Maryland for 21 years and have seen 10+ car pileups during a passing flurry. Heck, mention the words 'wintry mix' and the insurance companies all let out a collective groan. When I commuted to college, my folks used to beg me not to go on bad weather days because of how crazy the drivers get. The further south you go, the crazier it gets.

Shwirv: Here's how I see it: Calling an adminstrator because you think there should be a school cancellation due to weather is over the top but if done professionally and politely completely in the bounds of decent and socially acceptable behavior.

Really? You think it's cool for a kid, with no consideration to things like budget, logistics, and the legalities of it all, to call an administrator and complain that he has to go to school? A kid that clearly has no concern for safety, or any of the other legitimate reasons to close a school? Would you be OK with kids phoning their teachers and principals at home with every complaint they had? To me, the kid is waaay out of line.

Shwirv: Am i the only one who felt there was something ironic about "how dare you call some one's house"?

I don't see it as ironic so much as "let's see how you like it". I'm fine with that.

Shwirv: I bet the child's phone message was at least a little bit nicer.

Ohhhhhh. I get it now. You've clearly never met a 17 year old boy...

My kids are going to be so screwed. My wife and I are firm believers in "life experiences" and "building character". So far I am coming across as the softy so I know they will still like me more than her, but when they ask for that first go-kart and I tell them they are going to have to learn how to build one, I know I'll be just as hated as her.

For a while, at least; until they grow up and realize just how much of a leg up they will have on the competition. This, I firmly believe.

Poor farkers; I almost feel for them. It's gonna hurt in the short term but they'll thank us. No snowflakes in my family I tells ya.

/had to buy a broken go-kart and make it work when I was 15. I did and it was awesome.

Sure, but from the sounds of her response, it sounds like the kid accused the guy of deliberately not answering the phone. Doesn't sound too "professional" and "polite" to me.

Dimndgal1: The further south you go, the crazier it gets.

I am from Wisconsin and I have thus far had two snow days in my lifetime, once they were shutdown because they feared walkers would die or the school heaters might fail (it was fifty below). The other was for once when it snowed an inch during the day, melted and froze, then snowed twenty four inches on top of it.

I hear since I left high school they changed Supers and have since become a bit more lax as our town has expanded.

A friend of mine moved to Georgia and their schools closed on a snow of 1/4 inch. But then she lived in Atlanta, the hub of shiatty traffic so I hear.

2008-01-24 04:39:32 AM
The one news report this morning said the kid had called to ask why it wasn't canceled.. nothing about him biatching or being rude (aka he left his name and information). I think he attitude was uncalled for... I sure wouldn't tolerate her mouth - as a kid or the kid's parents.

As for calling off schools today - GAWD they have it good. between days off for the slightest snow, just because it is cold, and teacher "meetings" every week or two, I don't think a city next to mine (Belpre) has had a full school week since November! 17° now - wouldn't surprise me if they cancel it, or give a 2-3 hour delay... again.

2008-01-24 04:50:40 AM
OK... I grew up in upstate NY and live in MN... school days almost never happen because they have an infrastructure to plow roads, etc. But in VA, snow stays on the road, so I understand wanting to have a snowday.

His wife should have stayed out of it - and left it alone

2008-01-24 04:55:31 AM
Our local administrator was much the same until finally we had a snowy day recently and they didn't call school off. Ended up having 3 or 4 school faculty members wreck on the way to school, luckily just fender benders and one bus slid into a ditch. Luckily again, no children hurt. They call off school much quicker here now, it's not worth getting someone hurt.
"little snowflake" is no different than any other kid wanting school off, but Mrs Administrator need to chill her act too.

As a guy that grew up through some significant winters on the Canadian prairies, this isn't a very likely scenario. I know people that have run 5 miles in sub-zero F temperatures (certainly not me, and certainly not recommended). Yeah, you could die, but it's not the kind of thing that's a reasonable reason to cancel school. At those temperatures, the only break my kids get is that they don't have to stand out on the playground before the doors open at school in the morning.

And even that's more for the poor sucker teachers and parents that have to supervise them.
