2002-10-21 09:07:16 PM
Montana THIRD?

I understand Vermont and Connecticut...y'know...all the Ivy League colleges n stuff...but what kind of institutions of high intellect do they have in Montana? Are all their Mensa scholars driving cattle or something?

18. Percent of Public Elementary and Secondary School Staff Who are School District Administrators (Table 359) -

could someone explain to me why this is a negative attribute?

2002-10-21 09:08:57 PM
Go Jersey! We're number 4! we're number 4!

We're way ahead of New York! I think that reflects the fact that if we're gonna pay 2000/mo for an apartment the place better be huge...

2002-10-21 09:08:57 PM
total crap. over half of the ranking is based on how much money is thrown at schools. As if the amount per capita is even important

2002-10-21 09:09:02 PM
Montana is in 3rd place????? WTF is that crap! The soil is contaminated in most parts of that state, there's no way that can be good for you.

2002-10-21 09:09:10 PM
NY is below Texas? How do they figure that one. No offense Texas- I'm just sayin'.

2002-10-21 09:09:52 PM
I used to think that I lived in a pretty smart state....feh. Who am I kidding? California sucks. We have Hollywood, damn it.....that's our downfall right there...they made Freddy Got Fingered...that says something, doesn't it? AAH!
::cries::

2002-10-21 09:10:04 PM

2002-10-21 09:11:14 PM

I need a hug.....anyone?

2002-10-21 09:11:21 PM
I wonder if Montana's score shouldn't be adjusted for the fact that Ted Kaczinsky (sp?) is no longer really a resident.

2002-10-21 09:11:23 PM
Montana at #3?
Ted turner's the only person living there now and he's not that smart.

2002-10-21 09:15:45 PM
Michigan is badass. A lot dumber than 20 though.

This isn't a big surprise, seeing that New Mexico is usually at the top of all the "bad lists" and at the bottom of the "good lists."

It completely amazes me that so many stupid, overly-monied Californians (among others) actually want to move here. Are they *that* unaware of our high DWI fatality rates, incredibly low teachers' salaries, and failing infrastructure? Or can they simply not resist the herd mentality sucking them into moving to the extremely pretentious, overly-trendy and overly-developed theme park that Santa Fe has become?

2002-10-21 09:18:53 PM
I have real troubles believing that Nebraska is smarter than my home state, Kansas. I mean it's NEBRASKA for pete's sake!

2002-10-21 09:20:12 PM
YESSS!!!!!! West Virginia is in the top 20!!!! Sure, we're 18th, but that still beats out 32 other states. So much for the talk of backwoods hicks.

2002-10-21 09:20:32 PM
NMTurtlelady -- you make it sound like it's a good place to retire actually :-) except for the DWI fatalities.

Retirement communities have been fighting for years to avoid paying school taxes, and we all know that old people love to complain about everything.

2002-10-21 09:20:42 PM
Wow, Missouri is #31. I guess this state isn't as dumb as I thought it was!!

2002-10-21 09:21:05 PM
I grew up in New Jersey...

...luckily I was smart enough to leave.

2002-10-21 09:21:20 PM

2002-10-21 09:21:40 PM
At first I thought, "HEY, these are in alphabetical order!" After a couple minutes I realized what was going on... YaY Minnesota! (I think I'm the reason we are number 12)

2002-10-21 09:22:36 PM
if it's such a freaking smart state, why are the highways like Baja Ruts, the the cities all look bombed out and disgusting, and the taxes are just totally obscene,, screw connecticutt, and screw Yale, too..

2002-10-21 09:22:38 PM
Wisconsin is number six. That's pretty cool. Still, the disparity between #1, in the 13's, and Wisconsin at 6 in the 8's is pretty amazing. It's even more amazing the difference between first and worst..

2002-10-21 09:23:13 PM
New Mexico may be full of dumbasses, but it's still a lot smarter than regular Mexico.

2002-10-21 09:23:15 PM
Louisiana 49th? Yeah, that could be, but what does the percentage of public teachers who whine about too much paperwork have to do with intelligence?

Oh well, at least we are smart enough to finally send a dishonest ex-gov to jail along with another insurance commisioner and assorted other public officials stealing from the public. I know we haven't got 'em all, but we're working on it...

2002-10-21 09:23:15 PM
I'm so glad I escaped from NM.... to AZ.... okay... well if i breed looks like i'm gonna have to get a compound in montana

2002-10-21 09:23:37 PM
Deadzebra, unfortunatly too I was born and raised in NJ (Princeton)... I left 19 years ago and have literally not stepped foot into it since... The only thing I truly miss is the pizza as pizza everywhere else (including here in PA) sucks!!!!! NJ & NY pizza is real pizza, everything else is just crap...

Telling figures indeed.

2002-10-21 09:26:14 PM
Virginia coming in so low is pretty surprising. I guess that it's hard to make up for Roanoke.

2002-10-21 09:26:22 PM
Yeah, I highly doubt we're number one.

I have seen WAY too many retards around here.
