Unlike many southern states, where the cows drive pick-up trucks.

Billy Crystal already did this in City Slickers.

Governor Corzine has announced a cowmove tax to address the problem. He then apologized for scabies on behalf of New Jersey, frowned seriously, and said "I own this office. I bought it, I payed for it. It's mine. -Speed limits and seatbelts are for the peasants". Then he raised turnpike tolls again.

So how do the guys in NJ drive their moms around?

But she tells the Times of Trenton that she won him in a card game.

A cow? That's bull.

This isn't a dog in the back of the pickup, it's a calf. You hit the brakes too hard and that's one hell of a projectile.

It really is a shame that the only vehicles in existence are all pick up trucks. If only God had invented flatbeds or trailers or semis or SUVs, the poor lady might stand a chance.

\Buck up lady, kill the SOB and start the grill.

I thought the natural life of a cow was birth to slaughter house. It's unnatural and a total waste to let a cow die of old age.

UberDave: So how do the guys in NJ drive their moms around?

My moms in an urn, so she fits in the glove compartment.

Milk comes from cows, beef comes from cattle.

I lol'd. But seriously, this guy is a menace and needs to go. When is NJ going to get a halfway decent governor? I would love to know what they do with all the money collected from the GSP and turnpike.

When the GSP tolls went into effect, they were only supposed to be temporary. I think everyone has forgotten that.

Musta spaced during the article.

So, exactly how did the cow move out of the garage?

Not everyone.

BitwiseShift: So, exactly how did the cow move out of the garage?

The animal control officer paid the woman for the cow. Most animal control officers drive vehicles that can contain animals.

In all the years I've been playing cards, I would NEVER accept a cow as payment.

I think that's the most hysterical part of the story!

The natural life of this calf will be until it is made into veal.

If it went to a milk farm, as soon as it's too old to give birth and give milk it becomes 3rd rate beef for prisons and schools.

Thank goodness I'm a vegetarian.

2008-01-17 12:09:28 PM
Clarification: It's illegal to move a cow in a pickup truck unless the truck has the properly installed equipment (e.g., a cage that's been secured to the frame of the truck).

The ONLY reason why I know this is because I once dated a Jersey farm girl.

NJ, you can never call us rednecks again.

Its a boy. Good luck milking it. I don't think it would complain though.

/The thing is 150#. It could ride in the back seat.

Am I reading this right? The animal control officer paid the person who was in violation of the law $250 for the calf?

Also, as I live in New Jersey, I can assure you there are other trucks around here other than pickups. What was the problem again?

2008-01-17 12:47:59 PM
Yup - Pennsaltuckians it is

Wow, I live one town over and this is pretty weird. Ewing is closer to Trenton, I would more expect this to happen in Hopewell.

/in Hopewell no one would notice/care if you had a cow in the garage.

this is as good an opportunity to post Stompin' Tom lyrics as any.
--------------------------------

Have you heard the news in Newfoundland? Rollin' around the Rock
How Reggie brought for Marggie home, cowsy dungsy clock?
With Marggie being a farm girl, she almost took a fit
To find the cowsy dungsy clock was really made of it.

The clock was from Toronto, and her mind was soon made up
She said to Reggie "Get the cow, and load her on the truck"
We're headin' for Ontario, and we're off to make er' big
Cause Margo's got the cargo b'y and Reggie's got the rig, Reggie's got the rig
Reggie's got the rig, Margo's got the cargo b'y and Reggie's got the rig.

Now they're rollin' through the Maritimes, The truck was nearly full
The cow began to ball, she was lonesome for the bull
The Mountie pulled them over "Is there something I can do?"
"Go right ahead" sir Marggie said, "climb in the back and moo"

Now when they got to Montreal, they missed the Auto route
But they found that everyone in town was glad to help them out.
The sooner you hit Toronto, the sooner you'll make it big
Margo's got the cargo b'y and Reggie's got the rig, Reggie's got the rig
Reggie's got the rig, Margo's got the cargo b'y and Reggie's got the rig.

Now the truck was overflowin' when Toronto hit the rise
The 401 was full of dung and the cab was full of flies
We're losin' lots of money Reg, we can't afford to stop.
We got to find the place that makes the cowsy dungsy clock

Well I wish you coulda been there, on the corner of Queen and Young
When Margo found the company and she dumped her load of dung
And when she found the office she was singing and doin' a jig
Margo's got the cargo b'y and Reggie's got the rig, Reggie got the rig
Reggie got the rig, Margo brought the cargo b'y and Reggie brought the rig.

It was later in the evening when they heard from Mr. Judge
I don't know what to give ya's. but I'll never hold a grudge
I think a thousand dollars would be fair ta hand ya down
And 30 days of lodging will be free upon the town

Now Margo says to Reggie "What a hell of a deal we've struck"
We might have lost a cow b'y, but still we got the truck
And now they're back in Newfoundland, They're loadin' up the pig
Margo's got the cargo b'y and Reggie's got the rig, Reggie's got the rig
Reggie's got the rig, Margo's got the cargo b'y and Reggie's got the rig.

Margo's got the cargo b'y and Reggie's got the rig,

I don't know how many cows can fit in a pick-up truck, but when I was in Saudi, I saw a guy with five camels in the bed of an F-150.

There's a law in New York State against driving with a conscious moose on your fender; Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Especially
on Saturday, as I was warned.

idrow Excellent reference. How'd they ever get ultra-animal lovin' Betty White to do those scenes anyway? She's made a career out of being being cast way against type.

Hmm, doesn't surprise me. Use to live in Trenton / Ewing area and yes, there are cow pastures along I-95. I've met just as many rednecks living in Texas as I did while I was still in Jersey, particularly in that area...
