Sincerely hoping that was a parody or the metal equivalent of a rick roll.

Dragonforce anybody?

How about Dragon Pie?

Atomic Spunk: As far as I'm concerned, Judas Priest ceased to be "heavy metal" when Rob Halford admitted that he likes to smoke poles.

PanicMan: Rob Zombie had a good run there for a while, but I can't think of any real modern heavy metal. Avenged Sevenfold, maybe? Korn?

Children of Bodom.

Anyways, good thrash and speed metal didn't begin really until 1982-3ish with Venom (not so good at first), Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, et al.

Rob Halford is the greatest vocalist in the history of hard rock, I don't care what he smokes.

There is only one king of metal vocals, and his name is Dio (with extra silly 80's music video goodness)

There's this cool doco on TV here at the moment, "Heavy - The Story Of Metal" (new window) which is hilarious. I'm not even that big a fan of metal, but I'm eagerly awaiting tonight's 3rd episode.

LGT google search for the show. It's really good.

StillH2O- No, our family is sadly mullet-free. I miss the fashions of the 80s... I think it was my favorite time for "the look" *sobs quietly remembering the old days*

Rob Halford isn't gay.

He's just too metal for chicks.

Speaking of metals, NEW SCIENTIST reports that garlic can help eliminate arsenic from your body. Two-three cloves a day are recommended if you live in Bangladesh. You could take odorless garlic. Same thing. No need to offend your dotty landladies just because you don't want to end up a permanent resident of "Panama". I offer this as a PSA, as it's too late to think about heavy metals.

Psycoholic_Slag: StillH2O: Oldiron_79: 1980, isn't that around the time Ozzy left Black Sabbath?

I came here to say the same thing. Heavy metal in the UK was never the same after that.

Black Sabbath invented heavy metal. It was perfected in the 70's and peaked by the mid 80's. Everything after that is either a weak rip-off or just loud ass noise. Turning your amp to 11 and playing as fast as you can while screaming at the top of your lungs is more annoying than rap.

I'm flabbergasted nobody's thought to mention Satriani yet...

Also, anyone who dares think Rob Halford was better than the god called Bruce Dickinson needs to listen to Phantom of the Opera one more again.

You can't kill the metal
The metal will live on
Punk-Rock tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were smite to the ground
New-wave tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill the metal Ha,hahahahaha
They failed, as they were thrown to the ground
Aargh! yeah! [x2]

[Singing]

No-one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know

New-wave tried to destroy the metal, but the metal had its way
Grunge then tried to dethrone the metal, but metal was in the way
Punk-rock tried to destroy the metal, but metal was much too strong
Techno tried to defile the metal, but techno was proven wrong
Yea!

Metal!
It comes from hell!

That's ok, we don't need the British anymore. Now we have bands like Dark Funeral, Dimmu Borgir and Satyricon that rock.. and they're from Sweeden and Norway.

All the brits gave us lately is Cradle of Filth, but they've sucked on all albums after Cruelty and the Beast.

FerumVirgo- I approve of your screen name :) I have always wished people still spoke Latin. It's the best language when it comes to singing, and it just sounds so damned cool. Up the Irons!!!

"Anybody here a fan of (or even remember) the band Trouble? They are kind of like a cross between Black Sabbath and Tesla."

Wow, thanks for the link. I haven't heard those guys since Z-Rock in the late 80's. Great memories, somewhat faded now...heh

/Get off my f**kin lawn!

Their self titled album "Trouble" on Def America produced by Rick Ruben is awesome. It is also out of print and was expensive to get off of eBay. It came out when Rubin was producing a string of successes and everything he touched was gold but for some reason they never were able to hit it big like the others.

Most people I talk to never heard of them but those few who have really like them.

If there's not enough heavy metal in the air, obviously some people don't have their amps turned up to 11.
