In what is surely completely unrelated news, with the FAA's new "Sport Pilot" program, ultralights can now fly at night if equipped with appropriate lighting and the pilot holds a Private Pilot license.

I can say, without a doubt, that it was a UFO. It wasn't identified. It was a flying object.

Now, an alien spacecraft? Not a chance.

Here's what I don't get. These are sincere, "god-fearing" people, so why would they make up stories like this? My grandfather was a minister and not exactly one to screw around, but he vowed he saw a UFO one night and it left him shaken for years. I'm a skeptic on most things supernatural, but UFOs do make me wonder from time to time.

/first person to mention streetlights gets punched in the throat.

When I saw this a few hours ago, I figured it was already on Fark.

I very very much doubt it, but I wouldn't say it's impossible.

Fox news reported this too. It's interesting that this story created enough of a buzz for the big networks to pick it up.

If it had been in Florida, though, quite possibly. Probably from Cuba.

Because people who do what k405 did are giant asses and everyone hates them? This isn't 1998, people. Nobody thinks you're cool and being first in a thread ain't gonna get you anywhere in life.

From the article : Sorrells said he has seen the object several times. He said he watched it through his rifle's telescopic lens and described it as very large and without seams, nuts or bolts.

if he truly believed it to be a ufo...why didn't he shoot at it?
might have gotten answers then!

I don't get it. When there appears to be solid scientific evidence for the possibility of extraterrestrial life, the Bible Belters won't have any of it. But when there's a flashing light in the sky, it's "the end of times." Why doesn't Jeebus believe in other lifeforms unless they're redneck teenage ETs taking the parents' spacecraft and buzzing the Earthling rubes?

/ Maybe they evolved on Earth after all.

I don't get why people are scared shiatless. So what? Thing in the sky, check it out. You never hear anybody getting lasered or turned inside out.

And they say it was a mile wide? That'd be a mighty big government craft or a mighty bad attempt at size estimation.

"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times,"

I am from Texas, and I would like to say, this moron does not represent the mass of the state. Only those hicks who live out in the country and nail their sisters.

But lets be realistic now. If you have an entire ocean, and one fish goes his whole life without seeing another fish, it doesn't mean he's the only fish in the ocean.

If it was a space ship these red necks seen? Who knows? But my question is, if it is, why do they always appear to the most idiotic people possible? Why not drop down in the middle of L.A., hover for a minute, then just fly off? Why go to the worse representation of the race possible?

They don't make it up, they sincerely believe they saw an alien spaceship.

Hallucinations can be very convincing. Try LSD sometime.

Several dozen people -- including a pilot, county constable and business owners -- say they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.

And in other news, not a single resident of Stephensville, TX owns, or has access to, a camera.

freakymescan-

The rednecks always see the UFOs and, though their trailer 'got blowed away', manage to survive tornadoes. The TV crew seems to always hunt them down amongst the normal in a disaster.

Torn shirt is OK, but no shirt and missing a few teefs will git 'em on the TV every time.

Yeah, but what if their sisters are hot?

Whoa whoa whoa... you mean L.A. is a better representation of the human race than those in Stephenville, TX??? (I keed, I keed)

Anyway, probably because they know the ones in L.A. aren't afraid to try to shoot them down immediately upon visual contact. The bumpkins in the country will just stand their asking, "Hey Lloyd, whaddya suppose that is?" long enough to make an appearance and then still be able to leave with the hull intact.

So a bunch of human lemmings - sorry, I guess they prefer "sheep" - see an optical illusion and thing the world is coming to an end.

These people are pets for the rest of us at best. They ought to be treated as curiosities, like we would treat a new found stone-age tribe in the jungle somewhere. Instead we humor them, listen to their opinions and elect them to office.

For the record, not everyone from that area is a redneck, just some of the older folks. most are just your average, hrd working joe.

Someone mentioned an ultralight aircraft? Thats unlikely, as there is a guy who does that in the area about once a week, so people know what one of them looks like.

It's probabaly a airforce craft. The military regulary flies over the area with everything from apaches to fighter jets. I've seen them as low as a few hundred feet, well, the helo's at least.

Yes really.

No, we are not all rednecks. I live here because it is a HELL of a lot better place for my kids to go to school than in the big city.

Not to mention a it is a nice relaxing place to live. Laid-back, easy going sure helps keep the stress levels down. Wife drives 2 minutes to work (I work from home).

Oh and we do have a Starbucks. Otherewise I couldn't live here!
