I gotta give that reporter credit for being completely composed. I'd have been like, "What the fark is going on back there? Oops. Back to you in the studio. shiat."

2008-01-14 09:48:48 PM
First reaction: So this is what passes for news in Louisville.
Second reaction: That was pretty cool.

2008-01-14 10:08:39 PM
It's ironic because you wouldn't expect an accident to happen at a dangerous intersection.

2008-01-14 10:16:10 PM
Where did the black pickup come from? Did it turn left in front of the van?

2008-01-14 10:24:45 PM
Hurray for irresponsible journalism. Way to cause a distraction, idiot.

2008-01-14 10:33:41 PM
Uh.. did the guy in the black pickup ever come back, or did he just walk off?

2008-01-14 11:01:33 PM
Sorry reporter - Simpsons did it!

2008-01-14 11:03:52 PM
Blue van was going at an amazing clip coming up to that intersection. And then driver sees the camera and all higher brain function stops.

All highway workers, cops, rescue folks live in fear of this "my brain no work when shiny lights on" behavior. It kills a lot of them.

A couple speed bumps would do wonders. Mostly making for some even better video.

2008-01-14 11:22:26 PM
I was hoping for a terrified reaction from the anchor, like when the car actually crashed into studio in Chicago. Composed indeed.

Why'd it have to be a BLACK pickup?

I think that black truck just got a little "uppity" in a left hand turn...

It's not Ironic. Bad use of the Irony tag = -1

oh Gosh!

Kudos to the reporter for checking on the accident victims instead of just ignoring it or trying "document" it. Big fark you to the cameraman who didn't give a shiat.

I do wonder what happened. Did the pickup fail to yield on a left turn or did was the minivan paying too much attention to the camera crew and didn't notice the pickup stopped partly in the intersection. Either way the pickup is partly at fault.

And why did the pickup driver get out of the pickup and walk away without bothering to check on the van driver? Uninsured driver trying to get away?

ShawnDoc: Kudos to the reporter for checking on the accident victims instead of just ignoring it or trying "document" it.

That's what I was thinking. I saw another clip a while back in which a reporter was covering an accident scene and another crash occurred behind him, on camera. That one was a lot scarier-looking than this, and was on a highway with far fewer people around. The reporter just kept on yapping. "Oh my, another collision has occurred, as you can see this vehicle was moving this way..."

Yeah, we saw it, asshole, now shut the f*ck up and go see if they need help, would you?

Nah, you need 2 of these i162.photobucket.com
and 2 of these tbn0.google.com
or maybe one of these www.ricesigns.com.

All a 4 way stop does is slow down traffic and provide a source of revenue from all the people using common sense and not coming to a complete stop.

Having actually driven on 26th, I can see why there are so many accidents.

You're probably talking about this one. (new window)

IIRC, the people in the camera van got on their cell phones and contacted the cops...

omg he didn't even look left.

Truck in subby's post should've seen that the van was not hitting brakes.

That blue van driver was really booking. Idiot went airborne when he hit. Looks to me like the black truck turned left then leadfood smacked him before he could clear the intersection.

Q314: Hurray for irresponsible journalism. Way to cause a distraction, idiot.

And the studio anchorman even mentioned that the live crew probably caused the distraction.

Excellent evidence for any lawyers watching that for a big lawsuit against the TV station.

This is Louisville television, there was no camera man, there was only a tripod and a reporter.

By that logic, we should put up big walls on the sides of every road so that no one could be distracted by anything going on off to the side. For that matter, let's develop some sort of virtual reality you can use while you drive that blocks out EVERYTHING but the road. FFS, people, If you see a camera crew on the side of the road and it is distracting you to the point where you cannot safely drive, pull the fark over.

That said, yes, they will probably try to sue the tv station.

And, again, kudos to the reporter for actually giving a shiat about the people.

I doubt it. There are all sorts of things on roadsides designed to get the attention of drivers, like advertisments, hookers, etc. Drivers are expected to drive cautiously despite these distractions. It's not the fault of the news crew that an idiot can't drive and look at them at the same time.

leadfoot had the right of way if the black truck was making a left turn in front of him. I'd put the truck at fault in that case.

When I was in high school, I was outside for gym class, as were the girls field hockey team, who were jogging beside the fence next to a road. A car stopped to make a left turn and was smashed from behind by some perv oggling the jail bait.

2008-01-15 06:40:51 PM
What's interesting to me, as an EMT, I see far too often that reports on the scene don't even check on people. This guy's first reaction was to make sure everyone was okay.

Personally, I have to give him props for that.

I got a ticket for that accident too. It was worth it though.

Not ironic at all.

2008-01-15 08:16:39 PM
2 things:
1 - has fark finished the internet so they have to keep greenlighting dupes?

2 - of course this is what happens in louisville. it's freakin' louisville.

2008-01-15 09:01:30 PM
At the 0:33 second mark, you can see a car in the lane into which the black truck was trying to turn. I think the car had to stop which cause the black truck to stop.

Van was flyin' down the road too, though.

Man, this was just posted. Fark is turning into repeats.

I can completely understand reposts from a long time ago, or even a few months.. but there are just way too many repeated posts over such a short time.

/The end of Fark?

xtex: Uh.. did the guy in the black pickup ever come back, or did he just walk off?

I think he went to talk to the cops who had responded to the previous accident. At the end of the video when the reporter is discussing the ambulance vs. Chevy Blazer accident, you can see the squad car.

I'm not saying a lawsuit is right or wrong. I'm saying the TV stations own anchorman implied that the stations camera crew was negligent and responsible for the distraction and the accident.

That there is some incredibly damning evidence for a lawyer to submit to a jury in a lawsuit.

That anchorman really should not have said that. That was a STFU moment.

It almost seems like the black truck and that mystery car almost hit head on. It backs away after the accident. Incompetent driving all around.

excessive speed combines with failure to yield equals excessive fail

I've been through that intersection probably 10,000 times, nothing wrong with it, it's the drivers not paying attention that's the problem.
