That's a really cool looking controller. You'd need like a TV tray to use it though. It's laid out like the command console for a Mech.

2002-10-20 02:57:19 PM
No thanks.

I remember an old Atari game I had that came with a 12 button keypad, much like a touch-tone phone. It was pretty cool back in 1982 or so.

40 buttons? Man, that's too way much.

Its nice to see that Microsoft is making such a smooth transition to console gaming

2002-10-20 04:10:56 PM
It is pretty farking expensive... but the game itself does look pretty tasty...

This $200 blingage is out of control. People need to exercise more.

2002-10-20 04:12:47 PM
As cool as the controller is, I can't see it being worth $150. I can see how they could justify the game costing $100 with the controller... maybe even $125. But $200 is ridiculous.

2002-10-20 04:12:54 PM
tell Taiwan though

No fuss, no muss.

Capcom reported a huge loss for this year --- somehow this doesn't seem wise...

... especially considering that Microsoft has shown interest in buying Capcom.

When this $200 monster flops (and I think the price alone will be its demise), Microsoft will have another cut in Capcom's hide where it can fester like an infection.

The controller is bigger than the Xbox itself, so that should tell you something. My farking car is smaller than the Xbox.

2002-10-20 04:16:48 PM
this isn't that big of a deal.. there has been similar controllers that cost jsut as much in the past.. they just didn't have as much exposure

2002-10-20 04:16:53 PM
This just in: Same game released for computer, and only costs $30.

2002-10-20 04:17:42 PM
It has foot pedals as well...

It's actually a great idea, provided that you like Mech games. It's really no different that people who buy realistic flight controllers, throttles & rudder puddles for flight sims, except that this is cheaper and gives you a game with it.

is this a joke?

No Really IS THIS A JOKE?

(simpsons quote)

2002-10-20 04:19:48 PM
Seems more like a PC title to me. Although it'd be pretty badass with like a 60" TV and a nice surround sound system. Still can't see buying an Xbox for it though. Blech.

2002-10-20 04:20:37 PM
Thought it was a joke at first, but I can't tell.
Can you?

2002-10-20 04:23:09 PM

Back in my day, one button was all a real man needed.

2002-10-20 04:23:13 PM
I agree that the price alone will be the downfall of this game. Having an actual " 'Mech' console" would be simply amazing. When you call in sick, just mute the TV and put it on speaker phone, and kick some mech ass with your 40-button thingie while making up a lame excuse!

I still want one tho, looks badass and should be really farking sweet to play! They could make tons of money if they put this on an Arcade console... I would spend all day if it cost $0.50 a credit... That would be heaven, right there. You got the arcade atmosphere, the kick ass mech controls, and the fact that you control a giant robot. What could be better?!

Well, maybe that one time in MechWarrior 3 when I had a 25 ton mech that cruised at 250+ mph... With a Large Laser in my head too, an ER PPC just caused me to go critical, because I didnt have enough heat sinks. Really easy to leg people with this sucker, just run in circles with your head twisted 90 degrees. Good times man... good times...

If someone buys this, they better hope that all other Capcom mech games released use the same format, or they'd be some pissed off.

2002-10-20 04:25:02 PM
Screw the Xbox. I hate console systems.

Give me customize-abilty or give me death!

2002-10-20 04:25:56 PM
The usual 101 key keyboard not good enough?

2002-10-20 04:26:10 PM
Excuse my silly ranting, but another really fun thing to do is get a 80~ ton mech, load up on armor and NO heat sinks, 5 ER PPCs, and the really fast running thing. Just run up in the middle of a battle, link all the PPCs and fire until you go critical. I took out 4 guys once doing that... Muahahahhahahahh! Really fun to just see your mech's crater and all these destroyed mechs around you

2002-10-20 04:26:34 PM
Actually, I have to admit.. this is the type of stuff that got me into hardcore gaming in the first place, when I was a lad of but 8 or 9. That's why I was such a hardcore computer gamer...
I think this will flop, though, do to price... And the fact is the simulation market has dropped (and i'm not talking about Sim City, or The Sims type shiat) in the last few years, because the computer game market was simplified and dumbed down. Console systems are now getting smarter to make up for it, but they're nothing as smart as computer games back in the day... even with all the new graphics.
Like I've always said, console systems are just trying to be computers...
maybe someday they will just meld into one super gaming system... but then again, computers nowadays are already there (mostly.) Too bad game developers are forced to develop for console systems to make profit, or the gaming world would have taken off.

2002-10-20 04:27:34 PM
I wonder if I can rent it...

2002-10-20 04:29:30 PM
all it needs is genital electrodes

2002-10-20 04:29:45 PM
...or should I say, deathmatch?

2002-10-20 04:32:44 PM
I can understand the need for complex games, but 40 buttons? I don't really see how this could be much fun, the standard controllers have always suited me just fine.

2002-10-20 04:33:26 PM
How ironic that this shows up two articles after the one about that 2nd guy dying from non-stop gaming. Wonder how many other Darwin Awards we'll be able to hand out due to this thing?

2002-10-20 04:34:51 PM
That controller sucks like The Living End, or perhaps E3M9.

2002-10-20 04:35:24 PM
This is the be-all end-all home mech simulation.

Tekki owns.

OK, the controller is free, but the game just happens to cost $200 dollars. I'm glad Capcom cleared that up for me, something seemed a little off.

did people go to the link to play online trivial pursuit? i can't get it to work and was wondering if it got farked or something

2002-10-20 04:36:57 PM
Not too many HumbleGod... think about how much effort is needed to use 40 buttons. You would be forced to stop from sheer exhaustion after around 20 hours before you even got close to dying... Not that I know how long it takes to become completely exhausted...

2002-10-20 04:38:27 PM
Sioux Falls #1 Website? WOW!!!! I'm impressed.

/kidding

Really though, how many could there be?

2002-10-20 04:40:31 PM
I'd buy it if i had the money. And an xbox.

As graphics in games begin to "top out" in the next few years, there are going to have to be new ways to add immersion to the experience. I think the controller is a great idea. Somebody posted earlier that capcom had reported a loss in their last financial period, this is only because of development costs of many concurrently developed titles. Capcom never experiences net loss, they're nearly unstoppable as a game producer.

2002-10-20 04:42:32 PM
Hmm, for some reason, this seems like a bad idea.

And, like Lividity brought, I'm sure you will be able to rent it, you'll just have to rent it like you do a game system - put down $100 deposit that you'll get when you return it, and I'm sure it'll be anywhere from $20-30 to rent. That is, if you can even rent it to begin with.

2002-10-20 04:46:11 PM
I've always hated mech games. Big tall robots that walk on legs have to be the most idiotic possible way of waging war...

2002-10-20 04:47:00 PM
This monstrosity isn't much bigger than the regular Xbox controller.

What a stupid console.

2002-10-20 04:47:09 PM

Eight Buttons. (up, down, left, right, select, start, A and B)

2002-10-20 04:50:54 PM
did someone say genital electrodes?

2002-10-20 04:51:05 PM
What kind of a loser would actually spend THAT much money on video games?

2002-10-20 04:55:21 PM
I'd buy it. On one condition, the game better rock, and there better be sequels.

I do feel kind of weird about this though. I've been a Battletech fan from way back in the day, visited FASA in Chicago several times, and even read the novels and stuff. Why didn't Capcom work with them when making something like this?

2002-10-20 04:56:26 PM
CACA! please don't tempt me with that screenshot, I have a lot of work to do. Ah, the nostalgia.
