Carl was never a jr. He started a Denny's style restaurant named Carl's, and the only thing that was a hit were the burgers. So he made a smaller store that only sold those, and called it Carl's Jr.

Two things I loved at Old School Carl's Jr. They used to have this wonderful roast beef sandwich and steak sandwich (which was still ground steak). Plus they were first with a salad bar.

I remember reading about him in Fast Food Nation. His kids pretty much ripped the company out from under him, IIRC.

Personally, I liked Hardee's before C'sJ bought 'em. The one in my hometown had really good fried chicken.
