Great, one tiger attack in years and now everyone will launch an investigative report into their local news.

It's not like there are any more pressing concerns in the world than tiger attacks in major metropolitan areas.

Wow, I initially read that as "Houston zoo let guests play tug-of-war with loins..."
Ouch.

I meant "into their zoo"

tiger tiger, burning bright ...

2008-01-09 04:47:49 PM
Huh.

I don't know what to think. I gotta say I can't tell if the critter is being entertained, or it's pissing him off.

I gotta say, if it weren't for the American sensibilities, I'd say put live rabbits in there for them to chase.

I think their insurance agent and lawyers just read that article and their heads asploded.

Hey, kitties LIKE to play tug of war. This is just like dangling a feather off a string to a house cat. Right up until the falling and the yelling and the SCREAMING and the OHMYGOD, my LEH-eg!

I'd say put live rabbits in there for them to chase.

FTFY.

What kind of person would enjoy teasing a caged animal anyway? Ug, sadly there'll be an answer to that question.

One of my friends is married to a carnivore specialist at the Houston Zoo, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies ...

That is, in fact, how local news works. Didn't you know that?

I love how the station's graphic shows the lion yawning over and over again. Is it supposed to be ferocious and scary? Seriously, anyone with a cat knows a tired or bored kitty when they see one.

/would go to that zoo

"When he wants to walk away with it he walks away," explained Kevin Hodge, Carnivore Supervisor, Houston Zoo. "There's nothing we can do to hold him back. He kind of lets us know when he wants to play and we go along with that."

This helps the visitors of the zoo appreciate the awesome strength of these animals. When you can see a lion outpulling you and all of your friends you'll get a better idea of how strong they are.

cyber_slacker: What kind of person would enjoy teasing a caged animal anyway? Ug, sadly there'll be an answer to that question.

Uh, well, I think there is a distinction between playing with an animal and teasing/tormenting it. I mean, my own cats, I play with them, sometimes in a similar way, with a treat or something. My wife's nasty little dog, on the other hand, I torment him until he hides under the couch and pees himself.

They should tie a rope around an animal rights activist and throw them in with the lion. Then other people could pretend they're going to try to pull them out and then laugh when they get mauled.

When I first read the headline, I thought something really horrible was happening, like the cats were out among the public playing tug-of-war with meat, but the cats are in enclosures. If those enclosures are secure, the guests should be safe. I can see how the lawyer thought the game might be taunting the animals, but I think she's overreacting. Big cats in the wild would have to subdue prey, an activity that zoo cats rarely get to do. The activity is probably stimulating for them, and gives the guests a chance to understand that than pretty kitty on the other side of the bars could do some serious damage. I'm going to side with the zoo on this one

Um, don't be so sure that was filter pwnage.. that phrase, or originally Clintowned in the Boobies has been around for a while.
