Congrats subby, my losing headline was: [Main] Remember that scene in Bernies where they wheel Bernie to a check cashing store to cash his social security check? It was just like that except for the jailarity

Better weather.

/Better beer?
//Never tried one, so I wouldn't know

Are they Australian? from the artical it just says two men in Manhattan, New york. Can't seem to find more info than that on them. I think subby might be mistaken...

2008-01-09 01:36:28 AM
why the fark would they bring his body down there and then LEAVE IT OUTSIDE with one of them!?!?!

why not just leave it back at the farking apartment if you don't need his actual body for your super plan

or did they think that the body outside would prove anything to the dude at the check cashing place

"why is he outside and not inside?"

"........."

or even better, where they planning on bringing his corpse inside!??!?!?

"hows it goi...........holy fark he's dead!"

Eidderf: Manhattan's in Australia now?

I stop paying attention to the real world for one week, and New York moves. Wow.

2008-01-09 02:04:04 AM
Hell yeah, Manhattan Australia is a crazy crazy place.

2008-01-09 02:38:47 AM
The fact that it says this happened in Manhattan & that they were trying the cash a check for $US355 makes me think that this didn't happen in Australia, but the U.S. Just because it was reported in an Australian paper doesns't mean it happened in Australia.

This article says it happened in NY

Epiphany:
why the fark would they bring his body down there and then LEAVE IT OUTSIDE with one of them!?!?!

They were hoping that they wouldn't need him to cash the check. (Maybe they thought the clerk would be lazy or just not give a fark.)

When that didn't work, they hoped that having him outside would be good enough to prove that this was legit. He would be "with them" but not close enough for the cashier to get a really good look at him.

The last resort was to roll him in and say that the guy had survived a stroke but couldn't walk and had fallen asleep in the chair. Had they put him in a wheelchair, INSTEAD OF AN OFFICE CHAIR, that plan might have worked.

I wish I was a fisherman tumbling on the seas
Far away from dry land and its bitter memories
Casting out my sweet line with abandonment and love
No ceiling bearing down on me save the starry sky above
With light in my head and you in my arms
Whoooo!

For some reason I am imagining kangaroos hopping down 5th ave.

And those drop-bears must be killers in Manhattan.

I submitted this with a less funny headline:

Very nearly obscure. Leastways to me, nicely done.

Great movie by the way.

Another example of the Repuglikkans' failure to fix social security. Old people should be treated better than this.

LOL - HOW did the Aussies come into it?

I posted same article 6 hours ago (it was rejected) with :

"'Weekend at Bernies' fraudsters caught pushing the body of a dead friend through the streets of Manhatten in an office chair to try to get his social security cheque cashed"

Something fishy here?

No sorry, that was us. Not sure how they got out. Honestly, you turn your back for one second and they're gone.

Still, no harm done eh? Want a beer?

WOW WOW WOW did I hate the "Bernie's" movies. Holy crap those were about as bad as you can get. Made Police Academy 4 look good in comparison.

I'll never forget one of the 1st times I got stoned and my friends told me about Weekend at Bernies (I hadn't seen it as a kid). I had a fit of laughing that nearly broke my ribs and then just as I managed to get myself together and breathe normally again they told me about the sequel. Good times even if I felt I was gonna die of asphyxiation.

2008-01-09 07:56:10 AM
So, basically, we all submitted this with a funnier headline.

2008-01-09 08:22:18 AM
How's this for a headline?

Your roommate just died. Do you (a) call the police, (b) notify his next of kin, or (c) wheel his body in a chair to a store to cash his last Social Security check?

/Both men FAIL
//I hope their new "roommates" in PMITA prison treat them with equal courtesy they did for the poor dead guy

2008-01-09 08:30:03 AM
Way back, when a majority of my friends worked at the local multiplex, one of them took one of those huge vinyl banners that hang in the theater. It was for "Weekend at Bernie's 2".

Flash forward a couple of years. Short on blankets, we wound up taking it to a park to sit on while catching a 4th of July fireworks show. In the spirit of all things Bernie, we wound up walking down the street with it as if we were advertising a new movie. People would ask us when it was coming out. For years after that, we would do the same thing and it never got old.

Australia has social security? I thought they roamed the highways ala Mad Max to survive.

On the headline, it's as cliché as the other headlines in this thread, or as you put it, "FAIL."

And PMITA prison? Really? I put so much money into SS every year, and being around 30 I'm probably never going to see any of it. If I croak at 66 (probably only on SS for 2 years, if I've even retired by then), sure, use my body to try to squeeze a little more out of it. Fark 'em.

Confoundit: Had they put him in a wheelchair, INSTEAD OF AN OFFICE CHAIR, that plan might have worked.

You obviously haven't priced a wheelchair lately. About $356, minimum.
