I knew it had to be a Dodgers-Jints game before I clicked on the link. Someone got killed in the Dodger Stadium parking lot after one such game a few years ago.

I guess the next time some yo-yo is assaulting someone at a Dodgers game, they'll probably toss them out rather than "move them 45 feet".

There should be a $100 judgement.

Anytime someone sues ANY organization that is not really the responsible party because the REAL responsible party "ain't got no money", then you can have $100 from any and only one party that you can show has at LEAST 1% responsiblity.

Suing organizations because "that's where the money is" does not equate justice. However, here's $100 and STFU.

Weeks before spring training, the Los Angeles Dodgers got an early workout this morning as jurors heard a woman claim she lost partial vision after an abusive, foul-mouthed fan hit her after a Sunday afternoon game against archrival San Francisco.

The central issue in the Los Angeles County Superior Court lawsuit is whether the Dodgers provided enough security at the ballpark in Chavez Ravine. Marta Parra Helenius, a 31-year-old nurse, claims the team didn't follow its own rules on how to handle unruly fans, leading to the assault and making her legally blind in one eye.

Helenius was punched in the parking lot after the San Francisco Giants pulled out a dramatic, ninth-inning victory on July 17, 2005, before 47,000 spectators. Denise Ordaz was charged with hitting Helenius, pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 270 days in jail last year. She is also a defendant in the case.

"The Dodgers failed to follow their own fan code of conduct and their written security procedures, and negligently allowed this assault and battery to happen," according to Helenius' lawyer, David R. Glickman.

The trial began today before Judge Richard L. Fruin Jr.

The assault followed hours of verbal sparring during the game, much of it profane and loud. Helenius, though wearing a Dodger T-shirt, came with friends who were Giants fans. Seated nearby along the right field line were Ordaz and a group of Dodger fans.

In pretrial statements, Helenius said Ordaz was loud, abusive and insulting to the group of San Francisco fans with her.

Helenius complained to security guards, who moved Ordaz and her party 45 feet away. Ordaz said guards also detained her momentarily after the game, apparently in an attempt to keep the two groups separated.

When Helenius had walked about 400 yards from the stadium, Ordaz ran up screaming, punched Helenius once and fled, according to the police report. Security guards were flagged down, and Ordaz was detained, according to the lawsuit.

Ordaz said she acted in self-defense and that Helenius was about to hit her. She said she entered the plea last year not because she is guilty, but because her lawyer advised her to.

In any event, Ordaz said, she has no money.

Glickman said he has demanded $1 million in damages from the Dodgers, who have offered nothing.

The Dodgers regret Helenius' injuries, according to Jerome Jackson, lawyer for the team. But he said the ballclub, which provides extensive security at the park near downtown Los Angeles, cannot guarantee safety from the actions of criminals.

About 20 years ago, an appeals court reversed a Los Angeles jury's award of damages to two Dodger fans who were assaulted in the stadium parking lot by two people who were drunk. The court ruled that the Dodgers could not be held responsible for fan misconduct unless there was clear warning that an injury was possible.

During the 2005 game, 136 security guards were on duty inside the stadium and 31 in the parking lot, according to court papers.

Security is typically tripled on game days with the Giants because of the intense rivalry, according to the file.

From the start of the 2005 season through the end of June that year, more than 200 people were ejected from Dodger games, including 26 people for playing with beach balls, the court file says.

Signs at stadium entrances warn fans that abusive behavior will not be tolerated, and the stadium's employee handbook instructs ushers that people who ignore warnings about the use of abusive language should be asked to leave.

Because Ordaz was moved rather than ejected, she was allowed to track Helenius and then attack her, Glickman argued.

In the stadium that day, Helenius said in an interview, she was accompanied by her fiance, Mikko, a doctor who is now her husband. They have a 21-month-old son, Davin. Helenius said she grew up in Los Angeles and went to Chavez Ravine frequently -- a pleasure Davin has not shared.

"He will never go to Dodger Stadium after what happened to me there," Helenius said.

Well sure, but there are worse places. Um, like L.A. Maybe that's why they are STILL moving here. Man, they are way dumber than I thought.

This article (new window) says the Dodgers kept Ordaz and her friends for ten minutes after the game. Unless Helenius waited for Ordaz at the exit, it would be pretty much impossible for Ordaz to find her in a 47,000-person crowd in an area the size of Dodger Stadium's parking lot.

When Helenius had walked about 400 yards from the stadium,

As soon as this happened, her case kinda bottoms out. Seriously, if the offender had been kicked out they would have been waiting in the parking lot. It does suck to lose an eye, though.

/eye for an eye, I say. The other biatch with no money should have to do it in court in front of the world with a rusty spork.

You need a geography lesson, there are no hippies here. Just a bunch of hillbillies, meth heads, migrants and a whole bunch of equity refugees from Sprawl Angeles. Kinds of like Riverside, but with more churches.

Am I the only one who actually read the article?

What two "chicks" were duking it out?

Subby wanted to make the point that the Dodgers shouldn't be held even partially responsible for assaults that take place on their property, even when their security team ignores its own standards and the foreseeable fight does take place. Subby didn't have to exaggerate to make the point, it only rings hallow and biased.

Well her eye was kind of slanty in the first place, so I don't see how her damages would be that high.

damn, this type of shiat sucks. it would be nice if she had some kind of compensation, but the dodgers shouldnt pay for it. sue the chick with no money and have her wages garnished for lifetime and deny her ANY govt benefits if she doesnt get a job just to not pay up.

/literally wishes 'an eye for an eye' could make a comeback.

I was at the game about ten years ago when a Dodger security guard kicked out two lesbians for making out. The Dodgers later apologized and donated tickets and money or something to some gay and lesbian charity.

"In the stadium that day, Helenius said in an interview, she was accompanied by her fiance, Mikko, a doctor who is now her husband."

Your doctor hubby doesn't sound like much of a man if he can't protect you from a woman that came running up, screaming and dotted your eye. Why didn't you sue him or your other friends for failure to help you instead of suing the Dodgers.

Well, I hope the new hubby will protect you better in the future, or maybe you need to keep your mouth shut and not argue with crazy biatches at a ballgame.

After seeing the names of both parties, I was gonna ask if this type of incident is a Mexican thing (never seen stuff like that, myself), but I realized this is LA, everything there is a Mexican thing.
