This guy is spot on! Fallwell, Robertson and Bush all NEED to read this one.

All fundamentalists should consider the author's observations...not that it will do any good, but still...

Maybe there's hope.

2002-10-18 02:58:39 PM
And then they will say that Satan clouds this guy's mind. They are obviously right and are led by God, while Satan is leading everyone else. Blah, blah, blah... God has chosen them, so they know what's up, and they know what's up, because God has chosen them. Blah, blah, blah...

One of the most troubling realities of the Muslim world today is the cowardice of moderates.

Huzzah for objective reporting!

2002-10-18 03:46:33 PM
Very good article.

2002-10-18 03:46:52 PM
The Bible never even mentions these "Muslims". I take this to mean that they do not really exist. After all, God would have mentioned them.

2002-10-18 03:47:08 PM
I sorta tuned out Falwell and friends about 10 years ago. I had no idea they had gotten this submental.

2002-10-18 03:47:23 PM
I don't know who is worst, the Islamic fudamentalists or the Christian fundamentalists, I think they both should be rounded up and sent to Cuba.

2002-10-18 03:48:15 PM
Jerry Fartwell should be thrown in prison for killing people. He is the fuel that is inciting the violence or a major part of it with his stupid, ignorant opinions. Sure there are laws against denying free speech but with him and his ilk there should be an exception.

2002-10-18 03:49:09 PM
Falwell and Robertson should head on over to Saudi Arabia and spout off these views. We could air it on national TV, and call it "Beheading Live!" I'd watch. Hell, I'm really surprised someone hasn't taken a couple of shots at them here in the US, either.

2002-10-18 03:49:31 PM
Couldn't you just put all these zealots, and I mean ALL of them, into a box and nuke 'em? (Thinking 7 or 8 minutes on High Power for well-done)

2002-10-18 03:49:34 PM
*shakes head* The sniper's an idiot, he needs to make a circuit of these far-right christian farktards. Believe me, it's for the best: he gets to act out his murderous impulses and we get to watch as one fundie after another gets a bullet to the head.

Seriously, we should get him and the Unabomber, give them a mailing list, and turn 'em loose.

Time to Take On America's Haters

Islamic fundamentalists are having a field day with the rants of American
preachers, which have been replayed throughout the Muslim world

NEWSWEEK

Oct. 21 issue - One of the most troubling realities of the
Muslim world today is the cowardice of moderates. Mainstream
Muslim leaders-political and religious-do not condemn
religious extremism often enough and vigorously enough. As a
result, fundamentalists gain courage and their poisonous views
go unchallenged.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE SAME phenomenon appears to be at work now with America's own homegrown fundamentalists.

"Now" ?

Very well spoken. Huzzah!

2002-10-18 03:51:01 PM
Timberbeast: pinkos are different creatures altogether. They might purport a shiatty economic model that wouldn't work, but at least they are trying to be intelligent. Fundies just come up with crazy stuff on the fly, don't think anything out, and say that you gotta have faith. Commies might be wrong, but at least they want to make the world a better place. Fundies just want the world to suck them off.

2002-10-18 03:51:15 PM
making the Bible say whatever you want it to say is the way you put "fun" in fundamentalist.

Hrm. No condemnation for christian fundamentalists?

Maybe that's because, in the West, we learn to ignore this MORONS a long long time ago. So they spout a buncha crap and the only people who listen are other morons, safely impotent on a beat-to-shiat couch in a single wide trailer.

Contrast with the current Islamic world. Some dipshiat decides god hates something or somebody and other idiots strap tnt to themselves and blow themselves to bits.

The Islamic world needs to either: build more trailer parks, or wake the hell up.

I think we should start a big "International Fundie Exchange" program. They can send us their xenophobic mullahs and ranting maniacs and we can send them our "gays destroyed the WTC" nutcases. Provided that they agree NOT to ever, ever, send them back, even if they happen to survive whatever happens to them there.

2002-10-18 03:52:33 PM
I agree with what he says, but he makes mention of their tremendous political influence. do people really take their oral diarrhea seriously? how mush weight does the religious right or moral majority or whatever the hell they're calling themselves now throw around these days?

2002-10-18 03:52:45 PM
Timberbeast: "Best. Use. Of. Obvious. Tag. Evar."

Agreed.

Down with fundamentalism.
Up with moderation.

Extreme moderation is the route for me.

2002-10-18 03:52:52 PM
Scary to think that the only view some may have of America os those religious asshats. Same can probably be said for our view of much of the rest of the world.

2002-10-18 03:53:02 PM
Interesting article, but the implied solution is that we need to censor those with whose opinions we disagree.

So what if Bush were to say that Falwell is wrong? Does this guy somehow think that the Iranian clerics, famous for their objectivity, will talk about the rebuttal when they talk about the original attacks? I'd like to know what world he lives in.

Falwell, Robertson, etc. are little but a bunch of delusional Jesus freaks. I think this sums up most Farkers' opininons on America's "super-preachers" (though by no means all). Somehow I doubt that anyone in the Middle East will be talking about this quote tomorrow... it just doesn't fit in with the message they selectively want their audience to hear.

Fundies = pinkos
Ehh? "Pinkos" or Communists actually decried religion as "the opiate of the masses". For the last time people Communism does not mean Un-American.

Theses bastards are died in the wool hypocrites and bigots.

2002-10-18 03:53:24 PM
Indeed, it seems that moderates are the silent majority these days. Most of us realize that most Muslims are peace-loving folks, just as most Christians do not bomb abortion clinics.

Even politically. The tags "Liberal" and "Conservative" get thrown around as though they had meaning; true dualistic schizophrenia. "With us or Against us". 100% Buzzword Compliant(TM). Sheesh.

It didn't used to be like that. :(

2002-10-18 03:53:44 PM
I don't think even Cuba deserves these asshats.

2002-10-18 03:53:59 PM
All right wingers gain power through intemedation of moderates.
That's why they are all such a bunch of browbeaters - as evidenced from some of the comments and abusive retorts on Fark.

Maybe that's because, in the West, we learn to ignore this MORONS a long long time ago.

Unfortunately, in the Muslim world, they don't have the freedom to ignore the fundie morons.

2002-10-18 03:54:46 PM
I'm well aware of the fact that Bush going on television and calling these guys "ignorant bigots" will never happen, but wouldn't it be nice if it did?

2002-10-18 03:54:51 PM
However, here is the thing. We can debate Falwell and the like in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, etc. So, for us, I really feel that it is not Bush's place to condemn or support these people. Whether or not you agree with them, they have freedom of speech, and can say what they want. Bush can't stop them from saying what they want.

However in the majority of the Middle East, there is no freedom of speech. Their thinking is probably more like, "If Bush truly doesn't hate Muslims, why does he ALLOW this. Why doesn't he put them in jail?"

And honestly, the majority of the reactions from the Mulim fundamentalists do nothing but give these people unneeded crdeibility.

2002-10-18 03:55:29 PM
i feel like a tard, but i'll say it:

free speech.

the fundies deserve it just as much as you do.

however, it does sadden me that so few people seem to be publicly decrying the idiocy that these few speak. it reminds me of the nazi party waaaay back when. i read a statistic once where it said the nazis only had 5% of the vote, but look what happened. all because moderate germans just sat back and said, "well, it's really not that bad. if it was, someone would've done something against it by now."

2002-10-18 03:55:47 PM
Oh, crap - sorry, everyone, for the botched cut-n-paste job.

Not the way I read it. He's saying that the current administration/news Media needs to publicly biatch slap these bastigas for saying what they did.

2002-10-18 03:56:38 PM
Stubbly,

Hard to say, but as long as candidates for public office have to pretend to be a Christians to get get elected these farkers will always have some sway.

2002-10-18 03:56:39 PM
I think part of the problem is that most American moderates tune out these home-grown Fundies. We don't respond because to us it's like "There's Falwell saying something stupid again."

But I'm sure at the same time they're marketed in the Arab world as America's religious leaders.

The idea that we don't really have religious leaders here the way some of the Muslim countries do is probably beyind them.

You have a point, the only way I can see this happening is if they are charged under some sort of hate crimes, the only thing you would have to prove is that they are lying and or insighting hatred.

2002-10-18 03:57:56 PM
That was a very informed and well written article. To condemn the entire Islam faith based on the actions of a few that follow it is no worse than the few Islamic fundamentalists who condemn the West.

2002-10-18 03:57:59 PM
fundamentalists of all religious stripes are nuts.

But what's wrong with falwell telling an inconvenient truth? Muhammed was a terrorist. And Jesus, if he existed, was probably just another deluded false prophet of his time.

And there ain't no god and when we hairless apes, a product of evolution, die, that's it. lights out.

these are all hard truths for people to accept. but just because they offend your beliefs doesn't make them any less true.

2002-10-18 03:57:59 PM
What I ment by fundies = pinkos is that they both put a great deal of faith in something that either can never be proven or has been proven incorrect 100% of the time.

2002-10-18 03:58:26 PM
Yeah Ant!! You got the ticket. Maybe a playful Spanish Rioja to wash it down ....

Religion.... blah blah blah. Everyone claims to know whats right. Even the people condemning fundies. Bleh.

I like god's orignal plan better. Hang out, eat stuff, chill with animals, and run around naked with your wife. Hell yes. No complex religion, no philosophy and no ideology. Just food, fur and boobies. Nothing else.
