Because if there was *anything* going on that involved Britney Spears in any way, shape, or form, *every* news outlet would pre-empt everything with an "OMG BRITNEY LOL" crawl and in-depth celebrity analysis by an in-depth celebrity panel.

"Iowa Schmiowa," CNN would say. "There's Britney to be had!"

"Excellent," Fox News would say. "This can distract the public from the Democratic lead in Iowa!"
