The only actual statments we get from anyone is fluff about hope and change, or the occasional slander, none of which tells me what you will do for me once your president.

do for you? Nothing, as usual. Both parties basically stand for a slow, stately expansion of government powers without any real benefits returned to the people.

durbnpoisn: Here is the unpopular thought for the day.

There is only one way the Democrats can lose this upcoming election. And that would be to put up someone that can't win.
So what do they do? They put up 2 people that can NEVER win this election.

In MY personal opinion, either one is FAR more qualified than Bush. But the idiots in the square states will NEVER vote for anything but a white Christian man.

The country just isn't ready for that.

It's a shame. Because it's true.

The square states that you love so much are going to go red anyway. It's OH, FL, etc that you have to worry about again. And while Ohio has 2 straight edges, Florida isn't all that square. It's kind of shaped like Subby's caucus.

I live in a doesn't-farking-matter state that comes too late to count. There are no campaign signs around or anything like that. This weekend, a bunch of Ron Paul signs went up all over town. The catch? They weren't on private property. They were on poles for power lines, poles for street lights, etc. It was basically vandalism. It's not a sudden surge in Paul supporters - it's a couple idiots with nothing better to do.

And that's who they are.

Signs on Telephone Poles.

Damn those Garage Sale, Lost Dog, and Missing Persons Vandals!!! They should all be shot!

\\There must be a lot of Vandals out there...
\\\Every telephone pole I see is covered in staples.
\\\\We better make room in the prisons for them...

Well in most small communities garage sale and other temporary signs are allowed. Herbal life and political posters are not.
One is vandalism one is not.

We have much shorter 'campaign periods' here in Canada (fewer people, I suppose, although I like to think that we have a lower tolerance for bullshiat).

Whatever they would tell you is a lie anyway. There will eventually be a multitude of excellent reasons why they cannot actually do what they promised (some of them might even be true).

If they spell out what they stand for they run the risk of offending somebody-or-other, and all the other candidates will immediately attack them on it. If you can't be honest, be aggressive, it's all bread & circuses anyway.

More disturbing thought. I can't remember the last time a senator won the presidential election. Dubya (former Gov), Clinton (former Gov), Bush Sr (Vice-prez), Reagan (former Gov), Carter (former Gov), Ford (Vice-prez... although he didn't win an election, did he?), Nixon (he was a senator, but not immediately before he was elected pres), Johnson (Vice-prez... he also was a senator, but not immediately before being elected pres).

JFK was the last senator to win the presidential election while he was still a senator. Man, thats a LONNNNNG time ago. I hate to say it, but I don't think the dems have a shot. Rudy, Romney, Huckabee... all non-senators.

HEY LOOK JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO STUPID TO UNDERSTAND RON PAUL AND HIS FOREIGN POLICY OBJECTIVES, DOESN'T GIVE YOU A RIGHT TO BASH HIM AND HIS SUPPORTERS....

You are not alone. I too feel exactly like this. In fact, it's pretty much the reason I don't pay much attention to the entire political process. Why the candidates can't hire some entry level webhead to design a site that just spits the hard facts about their platforms back to you based on a simple query, I'll never understand. It's almost as if they want "We, the people..." to be so befuddled by everything that we don't see what's really happening. Oh, NOW I get it.

To put it more simply, I must quote the great philosopher, Hicks.
"Go back to sleep, America. Your government is in control."

Vandalism: deliberately mischievous or malicious destruction or damage of property.

More importantly, it's not like *all* of the candidates and their supporters don't do this kind of shiat when the election gets close. Every road in Nothern Virginia gets turned into a giant sign repository whenever even a state election approaches. Whatever, I don't care, as long as you clean it up when the election is over.

I was talking with my 9-year old son last night... He asked, "How'd Bush get elected anyway?"

I had to answer something like, "Well, he didn't really. He kinda stole the election. The first time, his brother was the Governor of the state in question, and he literally and ILLEGALLY handed the election to Bush. Gore won that election, yet Bush came out on top."

Then I went on to explain that he simply cheated the second time.

Seriously folks... He should have been put in jail by now for the crap he's pulled.

Nice job giving your kid both sides of the story there. No indoctrination at all. Not that I'm a fan of Bush...but come on, man, at least give the kid the facts and let him make up his own mind.

it still surprises me just how many people think there is a real difference between the democratic and republican front runners. when you strip away the BS wedge issues (that convieniently get dropped after elections) you are left with the same animal.
