How is that ironic?
They found the guy they were looking for.
It wasn't a helicopter demonstrating an anti-crash device....

But if it were a search-and-rescue rescue copter that, itself, crashed, and needed it's occupants to be searched for and rescued? Then, would we have a case?

It would have been ironic if the search helicopter had killed the guy it was looking for. Or perhaps if the search and rescue party in the helicopter went missing and was found by the guy they were looking for. Now that would be really ironic. Otherwise not so much.

I fail to see the dark humor or irony in the story. And I, for one, gorge on dark humor.

Sorry for the loss of your friends, hardinparamedic. I concur. I saw neither irony or humor in the story.

Yes, I know, Labman But apparantly people who gave their lives in the service of others, no matter what the reason, deserve a little respect. Hundreds of people alive today owe it to these people. In fact, I can name five off hand right now. These people died in the line of duty, and did it helping others.

Thats more than I can say for half you monitor jockies.

It's ironic that your included this statement where the tag is completely in-appropriate.

Not ironic....unless the people in the helicopter were lost also.

I'm to lazy to look for an article but years ago(shortly after I got out of search and rescue) we had a helicopter crash shortly after picking up the guy the mission was looking for who happened to need finding because he crashed a plane or helicopter(can't remember).

he survived both. Lucky or unlucky?

Its ironic because it went out to save someone, found them, then crashed and killed THREE people instead of saving one.

hardinparamedic: Everyone dies, asshole. People like you that get all offensive over the death of people you barely knew are the douchebags. Yea it's a real crying shame that people have to die but so farking what? They're dead, the end, nothing will change that, stop expecting the rest of the world to change their behavior just to make YOU happy.

You have no right to not be offended and anyone that would react violently over mocking words is the one that needs a lynching, not the guy making wisecracks.

Yeah, no kidding. How could a TF'er not know that this is a place where there is no reverence for any kind of death or tragedy. I mean, hardinparamedic, if I were in your shoes, and looking for sympathy and respect, I wouldn't have even opened this thread. I'm sorry for your loss, but nothing is sacred on fark.

That being said, if my death ever ends up being a headline on fark, feel free to bash away, I won't care, I'll be dead.

Wow that hunter must feel like a total asshole.

Is the guy they rescued the only one who survived the crash?
I have to say, that's kind of ironic.

I came in here to say this.
I expect that family and friends of Darwin award winners don't find their situation as funny either. "Yousucktoo", you say? I don't care! Life includes death... which sometimes provides fodder for those of us who like observational humor.

I work for -whomever- and am finding the responses hilarious.

Even if you're serious, I wonder if we perused your post history how often we'd see your own personal sense of bitter schaudenfruede laughing at the coincidental/ironic/odd misfortunes of others. Sure you act all righteous and pretentious - "how dare you laugh when someone dies in a coincidental and amusing way," but I wonder how frequently you do the same?

2007-12-31 08:25:09 AM
Well, technically they saved him just as they were dying. I am sure they radioed his position in before they went down. So, in a sense, their deaths were noble and heroic.

Just farked-up that they were hovering at low altitude and they still couldnt figure or werent able to set it down safely. Helicopters are so freaking unforgiving. Just general engiine failure, I am sure they should have been able to crash land. Someting must have stopped the rear rotor and started the death spins.

2007-12-31 08:27:57 AM
I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of NOT IRONIC!

2007-12-31 08:33:59 AM
It seems to be a trend lately to pre-emptively defend the use of the tag in the headline. Almost invites the grammar-nazis to come out and play, doesn't it?

I think its awful that you lost three friends, but at the same time, I think it's unfair that you would be upset at people for light comments on this particular tragedy but I never see you commenting in threads where they label someone who dies as a "Dumbass" or etc. Those people have families who grieve too...why aren't you crusading against those who mock them? You know the kind of website this is, and while I'm not condoning it, if you are okay with jokes about the cruel fates of others, then you should expect the same here. That being said, maybe being in this thread isn't a good idea because of how potentially upsetting it is.

2007-12-31 08:45:38 AM
I think you all have missed submitter's humor.

The headline reads like a lyric from the song "Ironic," and as we all know, none of those lyrics are actually ironic. They're unfortunate, but not ironic. So, the "never has the tag been more appropriate" line was the joke.

2007-12-31 08:45:43 AM

So, I bet you laughed when 343 firefighters died in the World Trade Center, right? I bet you find it really funny when an EMT or Trooper is hit by a drunk driver. Seriously, are you that out of touch with reality that you find that funny?

Wait wait wait...

hardinparamedic:

Welcome to fark. Do you think your friends are really any different from the hundreds or thousands of other people farkers have openly mocked and joked about?

Farkers will mock great people and farkers will mock horrible people. If you expected it to suddenly be different just because you knew these ones it's time for a reality check.

It's the internet. It's fark. Accept how it is or GTFO until you can handle it again.
