That's it. If there are really people out there that are concerned about their dog's cholesterol level we need to nuke this planet from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

I don't know, I really don't see the point of spending $200 on a steak. I know it cost a shiatload to export/import raise and so on. but it just seems too inflated. There is plenty of very good Steak for less.

And I'm quite sure all those folks eating their $45 steaks will take another chunk of their discretionary income and donate it to a soup kitchen or food pantry.

(Or am I just bitter that my budget precludes a $45 steak?)

Dogs are omnivores and do well on a vegetarian diet.

Apparently not... and I thought that was part of the experience...

As far as the overpriced meat goes. It is analogous to wine. Good wine is significantly and noticeably better than average wine but great fine wines are typically to complex to be appreciated at a level equal to their price point.

A steak from the local chain grocery may be OK and a good cut of meat from a local butcher who makes his entire living off of good publicity from selling high quality meat will be a lot better (try it some time and you will agree) but the $45.00 steak from these sacred cows will not be 3 times better. Hell - half of the asshats out there will overcook it or dump A-1 on it etc.

A picture of Akaushi beef. Where to buy it.

...Hmmm...

I think they should crossbreed them with bison only. And then cross them with water buffalo for milk production. Then I, for one, would welcome our eugenic supercow overlords.

I wouldn't spend restaurant prices, but would try the $45 (retail) cut mentioned in the article - same way I'd spend a little more on a recommended bottle of wine I'd never tried. Sometimes you get burned, other times you get a 'holy shiat' moment.

Wouldn't make a habit of it (couldn't afford to), but I really don't get the big fuss about occasionally treating yourself to something a little better.

TripSixes: Dogs are omnivores and do well on a vegetarian diet.

um.... no. Dogs are quite carnivorous. The carbohydrate-based caloric needs of a dog are incredibly low in relation to protein and fat-based caloric needs. Somewhere around +/- 15-20%, as opposed to +/-50% from fat, +/-30% from protein.

Try actually working your dog, and you'll see the dog fall apart on a vegetarian diet. Maybe your common house dog that plays fetch a half-hour a week can survive on it, but that's about it. Even a moderate workload can't be sustained by a vegetarian diet. And please don't confuse your dog running around the park as exercise.

TOO true!

A $30 - $50 bottle of wine is a crap shoot (even with a recommendation since personal palate has so much to do with it) but WOW does it pay off big when you find the right one!!!

I just bought two of the ribeyes as presents. The recipient is intimidated by them and is afraid to cook them. Nevertheless she promised to cook them Christmas eve and let me know if the hype is legit. Stay tuned.

The high price is only a product of the cows' scarcity atm. Once the herd gets expanded enough, the price will likely drop to just a little over the price of Angus.

Whats the difference between a whino and a wineologist?
20 dollars a bottle.

How do these cattle compare with the Japanese Wagyu cattle? Wagyu are tender because of extensive marbling (fat) but are they as healthy? Wagyu cross sold in the states runs about $65-70 per 8 oz steak. I got a couple of steaks for Christmas and fired up the grill in a snowstorm to cook them. Very, very good meat.

They have a small cookout package for 95 bux. Enough to get the flavor that will linger, haunting you for weeks until you buy more, which only will make it worse until all your income goes to buying the evil exotic beef that simultaneously ruins your life and makes you unnaturally healthy.

Unfortunately, in order to do it justice, you might need to buy a new gas grill with a really hot burner so it sears the outside quick enough to only warm the delicious, melty fat inside so that it is ready to flow over the tongue a mere moment after the juicy flesh meets your ravenous mouth.

Thanks but no thanks. My dog couldn't tell the different between chicken and pork, and now those snob liberals want to convince me to feed him $65 steak?

This shows how out of touch liberals are with the regular common sense people. Maybe if they got real jobs they'd have something else to focus on besides dogs. Stupid is as stupid does. This is why I don't read newspapers anymore.
