I tried one this past summer out of curiosity. Not bad, but I wouldn't eat another one. It seemed substantially less gross than the fried candy bars they were offering.

When I was a kid, my favorite treat was fried ice cream. I don't know whether it was my favorite due to the fact it was so tasty, or that it simply defied reason.

i don't think this is a new phenomenon. I'd still rather have funnel cakes or elephant ears anyway. the interstate fair is coming soon, but i don't know if i want to brave the teeming swarms of white trash to get the yum.

<sarcasm>Wow, those sound healthy.</sarcasm>

This summer at a flea market they were selling deep fried Snickers and Milky Way candy bars. Instant gripper.

2002-10-15 12:47:56 PM
These are not new, you can get then in NYC. I remember triing one almost 6 years ago.

Blah blah...Old...repeat...everyone jump on the "bash the mods" bandwagon.

Perhaps this is a cunning ploy to sell "Mod for a month"???????

2002-10-15 12:49:37 PM
Wow, it's like the ninetieth article on fried twinkies.

2002-10-15 12:49:56 PM
Can we please let this meme die? I've already gotten 15 emails about this, all of them urging me to 'pass it on', and now CNN has to chime in. What's next, a NYT front-page spread on a kooky guy named "Mahir"?

Ni!
2002-10-15 12:51:15 PM
*taps foot, glares around*

All right, which one of you Yankee transplants squealed? We've been enjoying these for years in peace and now you had to go and ruin it. Them yanks'll get hold of 'em and bastardize them.

2002-10-15 12:52:20 PM
The Food Network had a story about fried Mars bars last night.
From NYC if I remember correctly.

Please don't kill me.

Stubblyhead, I thought I was the only one around here who knew what elephant ears are. I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid...ahh, the good ole days, being shoved off by your mom at the flea market, to wander the aisles of freaks and wierdos, buying roach clips with feathers attached, and airbrushed t-shirts that had been cut in half and the fringe beaded...where do the good times go?

2002-10-15 12:53:53 PM
this is a repeat...

sometimes i hate living in Alabama

2002-10-15 12:54:27 PM
Frankly, I do not understand what the fuss is about. Sauteed with mushrooms is the best way to eat a Twinkie.

2002-10-15 12:54:54 PM
Aww, yuk.

2002-10-15 12:55:15 PM
these have been around for a while

I tried these not too long ago. Not bad, but i started getting chest pains while I was still eating it.

2002-10-15 12:57:24 PM
Elephant ears kick ass. Mmmm, cinnamon.

2002-10-15 12:58:07 PM
Yeah thats smart. Twinkies aren't bad enough for you by themselves so let's just fry them.

2002-10-15 12:58:40 PM
super! you can clog your arteries AND preserve yourself at the same time.

Suzanne Hackett, the general manager of an English restaurant in New York City called The ChipShop, said the fried Twinkie was born in her eatery out of boredom.

dumb biatch. people have been frying twinkies in england and ireland for decades. i bet she invented the internet too.

The_defecation_hit_the_rotary_oscillator: Mods don't post links.

Deep-frying must destroy the Twinkie's noble, 8-million-year shelf-life. What a terrible waste. Now I am sad.

2002-10-15 01:01:10 PM
I'm Southern, but all this deep fried crap is too much. It reached its limit with fried pickles and fried cheese. I was at the state fair the other day and saw what looked like a corn dog, but was actually a deep fried candy bar!

2002-10-15 01:01:54 PM
Yeah, it started with some brit up here in NYC. But here is where it ends -

2002-10-15 01:02:06 PM
...in other news, arteries everywhere go on strike....

Cant they just invent some chemical compound that they can just inject into my arm to make me fat? It just takes too much effort for us to keep thinking of new ways to make ourselves bigger lardasses. If we're not going to cure cancer, then research $$ needs to go into the field of making Americans Fatter Pigs.

2002-10-15 01:06:49 PM
Threepeat.

Well I have only been a farker for about 1.5 years (been a mother farker all my life), and I have seen this twinkie frying stuff AT LEAST 20 times! Please, consider Kevbo's point, think of the Gary Colemans....

2002-10-15 01:10:44 PM
Stoneygirl - did the t-shirt say "Sassy Lassy" on it?

2002-10-15 01:21:41 PM
Its NOT Southern or new.

Damn Yankees!

2002-10-15 01:22:20 PM
Now I understand the sniper.......
Oooops late for my psychiatric evaluation.
Seriously, I am.

I like to browse the art exhibits while eating fried Twinkies (tm). I don't know much about art, but I know I like anything airbrushed or on black velvet. Airbrushed black velvet rocks the most.

2002-10-15 01:40:06 PM
Look, I'll back the doo-dah's and all, but this repeating a story 5 times crap is just asking more of me than I feel comfortable giving.

2002-10-15 01:41:19 PM
Looks like the little Twinkie girl has eaten several too many. And mom's not far behind either as she says "we'll have a dozen more please sir".

2002-10-15 01:47:33 PM
Nah, you know the deep frying phenomenon has worn out its welcome when a restaurant here in Chicago has deep-fried-blue cheese stuffed olives for an appetizer. That'll warrant a triple or quadruple take as you schedule a trip to the eye doctors

2002-10-15 01:49:13 PM
Now death comes TWICE as fast.

They've been eating these for years in Scotland.

2002-10-15 02:14:59 PM
OLD.. besides the fact they arent a new item, other state fairs have had them, i know for a fact that california did this past summer. bleh

2002-10-15 02:19:19 PM
I have lived my entire life in the South, and the first time I came across a fried Twinkie was about eight years ago. In Scotland. Fine, friendly people, the Scots, but they will fry just about anything. Twinkies, candy bars, pizza (actually, the fried pizza was pretty tasty).

Invented in New York City (chorus: NEW YORK CITY!?)

Okay neither the concept nor the topic is new. We just talked about this last month. Only it was referenced with the Puyallup Fair in Washington.

That said, I ventured to the Puyallup Fair and tried both. The twinkie was nasty....the filling is basically fried away. The candy bars on the other hand....as unappealling as they may sound, were excellent! The only bad thing I'd have to say about the candy bars were they were too sweet and I had to throw about half of it away. And trust me, I have a killer sweet tooth, so for me to throw away sugar, it had to be too much.

I digress, back to work....
