Am I the only one who finds it odd her email address is quoted as "Aolcdcollector(at)yahoo.com"? Why not just use @?

FLA Chickie amused me by saying:
Skullo: they don't make good coke mirrors cause you leave cuts in it where your "product" falls in constantly

You could just cut out big O's of said product on them...

So, like, before we go bar-hopping, I'd say "Hey, want to go do a couple of (pick one) donuts, O's, zeros, circles..." The mind reels. Can you imagine going all the way around an AOL CD? Oh, God, please don't sneeze!!!!

Skinink:

AOL software by itself is evil. I've done a lot of tech work for people, and the number of times I've seen the AOL install hose Windows is mind-boggling. It's kludge software, badly performing tasks that the underlying operating system already does faster and more reliably (even windows, which is saying a lot.)

The AOL service is extremely expensive dial-up. You can usually get better service for half the price from a local ISP. In addition, when you decide you don't want the service anymore, local ISP's will stop billing you. I know of dozens of cases where people were constantly getting charged months after they've thought they cancelled. Sure, you can contest it, but it's a hassle most people don't want to deal with.

My experience with AOL users in general comes from being the poor bastard in the back of the computer shop where Joe AOL brings in his smoking wreckage to be fixed. Nine times out of it's the User with the silent L who somehow managed to stick the slivers of a crushed AOL CD into the fan vent after erasing the entire hard drive, and of course it's always the goddamned tech's fault, since it couldn't have been AOL. Because AOL is so farking easy.

One fat whore comes into my shop at one point, lugging three kids and a farking colostomy bag, of all things, demanding I tell her exactly how many windows are on her computer since AOL needs ninety-five of them. Yes, this is the target audience of America Online: It's so easy, no wonder the internet is full of shiat.

Don't get me started on WebTV, either.

This indivdual throng of CD's is not a disturbing as the aggregate of followers that will certainly mimic this young lady on her road to loneliness and her immersion into the depths of hell known as "collecting".

Good luck small one your gonna need it sucker!

I think some radio station should do with AOL disks & floppies what they did with disco. They should get thousands of disks and bring em to a baseball game and burn em all. What do ya'll think?

Fist off, there's medication to treat OCD... Made by Lilly Pharm.

Called: Prozac

Now, does this odd obsession compel her to gather things with AOL software on it, too? (She is after all, collecting clips out of newspapers/magazines, etc...)Or just the stupid discs that I still can't figure out why they put art on in the first place! (Let's face it, once the evil thing is in your CD-rom, If you're dumb enough to use AOL in the first place, YOU CAN"T SEE THE ARTWORK ANYWAY!!!)

Nearly every damn thing these days has some AOl free version crap on it...

What she should do is sll allt eh damn codes to people who are dumb enough to use AOL in the first place.
They'd never have to pay for internet service again...

I used to collect beer bottles. I wanted one of every different one I've tried. Then we had to move, and I had shelves and shelves of them, and I threw them all away so I wouldn't have to pack them up.

*pointless anectdote*

Crap - Don't you hate it when you spot a spelling error microseconds after hitting "Add Comment"?

aol disc plastic doesn't make for a good coke mirror. particularly if you use a blade to cut it. you end up with plastic shavings in your product. however, if you crush it between two aol discs, you can avoid this problem. but doing this, you can lose some through the hole. you should always leave the bottom disc on a hard surface. this way, you can allow the hole to gather all of that that doesn't remain on the disc surface. when the hole is full, you can pick up the disk and have a perfect circle of crushed product, which makes for a big, happy bump.

Am I the only one who finds it odd her email address is quoted as "Aolcdcollector(at)yahoo.com"? Why not just use @?

So that spammers don't pick up the email address.

Makubex

i'll bite, and assume that your not kidding. The @ was replaced with 'at' as a courtesy to her by the author. They have these bots that scour web pages and pick up e-mail addresses for spamming purposes. Although, I bet this girl has a collection of vintage spam on cd too.

Why is her home schooling relevant?

99% of all geeks attend public school.

This could be fun...

We recently received information about a 17 year old girl Dani L. Funk, who is terminally ill, with tumours on the brain and spine. Dani's dearest wish is to get into "The Guinness Book of Records" and friends have suggested that she may achieve this by receiving the greatest number of "AOL CDs." I am sure you will wish to help Dani in achieving her dream by sending a AOL CD to:

Dani Funk
P.O. Box 51971
Durham, N.C. 27717-1971

Perhaps you would also pass this request to colleagues and friends as soon as possilble, and let us hope that we will see Dani's name in "The Guinness Book of Records" in the near future.

For all you blue chip value shoppers out there today, on isle 8 we have AOL currently trading at 11.35, down 44 cents. Quotes delayed at least 20 minutes.

Looks to me like the headline was correct.

2002-10-14 05:26:53 PM
I didn't see anyone bidding (hey, slow link day, had to look at it!). So the headline is now wrong.

Why does she not have an AOL Addy?

NuggetMan--they didn't put "@" because the AP newswire can't transmit it. It won't do tildes, either, or ampersands.

SethMonroe--I think that is final and clinching proof that you are one messed up dude.

2002-10-14 06:52:44 PM
funny how she uses yahoo and not aol

"I just want anybody to send me CDs," she said, shaking her arms in excitement. "People get some cool ones, and they don't even think about people like me."

I think about people like this asshat and then I throw the disk in the trash like the other 10,000 I have found in magazines or been giving by stupid non-computer people. "Here, I got this for you." Yeah there is a reason why there are a box of 1200 freeones at the grocery store. MORONS!

Oh my god, her site is TERRIBLE!

Maybe if she went to a real school they would be able to teach her not to use a maroon background and black text.

My eyes are bleeding, must go now...

I bet Steve Case does coke rails off AOL cds.
