Iraqi kids need toys. Ship them there. And Afghanistan, and Utah and Florida.

Where does all this lead paint come from? It would be funny if American paint companies were making it. Sort of like how American pharmaceutical companies are selling drugs in other countries they can't can sell in America.

I just got some lead painted gifts for my birthday so I'm getting a kick....

lead shmed. When I was a kid we ate lead paint chips for snacks. When I was in the boy scouts we made lead sinkers WITH OUR BARE HANDS.

Bad toys are all made in China.
What's made in Japan is much fin-ah.
But who will still play,
With toys from USA,
When they learn Barbie's got chronic angina?

Everything is made in China now. I left Wal-Mart yesterday with about 20 items. Only 1 of those items was made in the US and it was wrapping paper. I check the "Made In" label much more now than I used to and will gladly pay a little more for something that is made in the US, Japan, South Korea, Germany, ect. Mainly because these countries do not use child labor, pay their workers a decent wage, quality is generally better, and they have safety standards that are actually followed.

I don't think there is such thing as an 'American' company anymore, atleast by the way I think. I think an 'American' company should have all of their operations in America. If you want to call it an American company, all of its operations should be in America. Too much to ask???

Cue the "omg all our jobz are going overseas" alarmists.

Off-shoring, on the whole, is good for the American economy. It's good for other countries' economies. It's good for the world and helps foster peaceful international relations. Deal with it.

Or, Mexico

Yeah, Mexico is another on the list that I try to avoid. But much easier to avoid than China.

On another note, a Ford plant making F-150's near me is closing down and moving to Mexico. Can't wait to see the quality of trucks that comes out of that country. I'll consider getting one if it comes with 14 Mexicans with willing to landscape my yard for 6 bucks.

/you know 14 would fit in there

Toys from China are now sold in Unleaded and Super Unleaded versions.

So check out productrecallwatch.com to see how bad it is. Plug china into the search box. Last week there were 30-some recalls, only a few made the press. Previous week less but same story. And on and on.

Not sure what the answer is, other than revoking China's "most favored trade nation" status until (heh) they can stop shipping us toxic toys, drugs, toothpaste, and pet food. Seems to me that won't be happening any time soon. Maybe we should just nuke them.

Same thing I thought. Not only that they still exist, but there are apparently people still browsing their site when Yahoo and Google offer the same things plus 1000.

Well, they need to be more protective of their children over there, since they can only have one. Here in the US we're free to procreate and pop our as many children as our hearts desire. Of course they'd be more cautious about their toys.

/didn't RTFA, can you tell?

Welcome to Fark! It's easy, just find a post that sounds cool to you, then "copy - paste" it into comments. Once you have pasted it, type "THIS" below it. That way you have participated in the thread without having to come up with an original thought of your own. Genius!

simpsonfan: 'American' companies make toys in china. Mattell used to be an American company, now they don't make toys in the USA. They are a foreign company, they should go out of business, no loss.

Worked for them while going through college. They closed the plant and moved it to China along with their other US factories shortly after I quit. Ruined a lot of retirements and intentions. They can very much DIAF with all of their barbie dolls as kindling .

The electronics contract manufacturer I work for is closing and moving to Mexico section by section. My job is already there. Thank you NAFTA for sending busloads of Mexicans for me to train.

Among various other products, I wouldn't get on a Segway since they are being built in Mexico now, and their quality is almost as bad as China's. Expect to see the first Segway fatality sometime in mid-2008.

Don't know anyone dumb enough to spend $5k on one of those anyway.

I was in line at a sporting goods store today when some crazy lady brought this giant stack of some kids toy up to the front counter and berated the clerk for not knowing that they were made in China and contained lead "Do you see these? They are made of Chinese lead! It was all over the news this morning, I can't believe you didn't know!" The clerk took the toys, thanked the lady and got back to work. Quite entertaining.

At a subsequent, very shiatty employer in 2004, there was some jubilation at an independent customer satisfaction report that showed our shiatty "portal" in #2 as far as customer satisfaction. That shock was only surpassed by who was number one.

Excite.

With a footnote that their user-base would no longer be large enough to include in future reports. Survival of the "fittest" ensured that those still around years after the company's death ensured that those the remained really liked Excite for some strange reason.

Me chinese me play joke..

By putting lead in the toys for all your children. I've been doing it for years and now you are just finding out but your are still too cheap to stop importing our crap because our labor is next to nothing. This creates millions and millions of dollars of profit for you and we get nothing back.

/and I go pee pee in your coke.

The Japanese toys are made in China also but this is the thing: Those Japanese companies have Quality control

//ok well made Sony with its assploding batteries
