This.

Being "muffin top" doesn't mean you're fat (necessarily). It just means you're in denial about your size and can't dress yourself in clothes that fit properly.

Exactly. Or maybe gained a few pounds and don't want to have to buy new larger clothes.

You know what I find hilarious? The picture of male buttocks appears to be photoshopped along the bottom of each cheek.

It could be - it's just a lot harder to tell. All that muffin top belongs around the hips anyway, not pushed up sitting atop the jeans waistband.

Exactly! So even a nice curvy figure, once it's distorted by too-small pants, turns into something else.

However I did finally figure out why people think low-rise pants are flattering. At least I think so. It tricks the eye into thinking the butt is higher up/perkier. Anyone else think this is what is going on with the low-rise craze?

because I can't think why else this would be popular, since it doesn't really look that great imho.

Oh I definitely agree with this. I usually wear fairly low rise pants and think my butt looks decent in them but I bought a pair of higher rise pants today and am pretty disappointed with the rear view. More toning exercises are definitely in my future. The low rise pants trend has deluded me into thinking I have a nice bottom.

But, I never started wearing the low rise pants for that reason, I just didn't like the feel of pants coming up higher/rubbing my stupid belly button piercing.

I think that's part of it, but another part is that sometimes I think they truly are more comfortable - if you can find a pair that's not TOO low rise, anyway. I don't like the feeling of those really high-waisted jeans - I have some old pairs that I think were bought around 2000, and compared to my more recent ones they feel uncomfortably high. Of course, when your pants are too low, you also have to worry about ass crack/underwear ride up.

Some companies have what they call mid-rise jeans which are my personal favorite, because they are comfortable, yet keep my ass covered. Just don't wear them with briefs - although I wouldn't wear briefs anyway. Same thing about the waist, plus there's that whole granny look. Even on someone who's in shape, I don't like the way briefs look. Hipsters, boy shorts, brazilian cut, low-rise thongs, bikinis - anything but briefs/high waisted, please.

I would need to check but I doubt I even own a pair of pants that isn't at least moderately low rise or lower. It is hard to find natural rise anymore. I have gotten a bit lazy myself since winter hit. Time to get back to the barbell squats.

Yeah I don't even think these pants would be considered high rise but they are not below my hips like most of the pants I own. I don't think I could go super high rise again. My biggest fashion fear is that high rise tapered pants come back in style. Ugh, who looks good in those :/ Scary!

Did anyone look good in skinny jeans last year? Ugh.

I'm a skirts girl though myself partly because I can put the waist wherever I feel like putting it.

Yeah briefs are awful. I can't get used to boyshorts either. I feel like they are always riding up. I think my thighs aren't toned enough to have them just sit there and not ride up and bunch, ugh.

Thanks zodar99.

I just read an article in Craft magazine about making your own perfect jeans and the write said something that rang very true with me. She said that all women look better in dresses/skirts instead of squeezing their legs into uncomfortable denim sausage casings. Dresses/skirts are the curvalicious lady's best friends!

And skinny jeans, yikes. Maybe with a sweater to the knees...lol.

God, not skinny jeans. Skinny jeans, and high-waisted pants, only look good on a (small) set of body types. They are not for everyone, and not a good idea to make popular again.

And skirts are great, it's true, but not for me. I don't know why - it's not that I hate skirts, or don't have any - but I rarely wear them unless it's some special occasion. I always feel sort of hampered, held back, when I wear them. Can't really explain why.

Quantum Apostrophe: Manic_Repressive: merreborn: I believe the line is "Curves: because if I wanted a woman who looked like a 12 year old boy, I'd date a 12 year old boy".

I wasn't going to post this again today, but you brought it up:

A 120 lbs 5"10 woman can't have curves? So a tiny waist and nice round muscular butt isn't curvy? Maybe you're just intimidated by a fit woman? Can't keep up? Or is it that she doesn't even notice you?

Post pics or it didn't happen

I personally like the low rises because I'm lucky enough to be different pants sizes at the waist and hips, and if they're kind of low I only have to worry about fitting one area. It's hard to find the right cut though, the ones that weren't made for soccer moms but don't make me nervous about sitting down in public lest I be mistaken for a plumber.
