czarangelus: LibertyFirst: "Moral Values" people like Christians bring it on themselves....preaching all their bullshiat and trying to take over the world with their Nightmare religion...... "what would Jesus do" and all their ten commandments bullshiat...

He's right though, isn't he? He got poison, hypocrisy, and lies from that church his whole life, and when he saw through it he snapped. It's too bad he turned to violence before he could have further broadened his horizons.

LibertyFirst: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law....

I think he doesn't understand Crowley...

LibertyFirst: I will do MY Will and I will kill those who try to thwart my will...

Pretty classic attitude taught in the megachurch-type doctrines. They see Christ as the vengefulness of God, come to smite all the non-Christians with hellfire and suffering. I'd say this killer learned to hate from the best.

Which is exactly why they shouldn't be called "Christians" in the first place. They're nothing more than "Club Jesus" and all about feeling superior to everyone else.

That ain't what Christ taught, and they're naught but a conglomerate of warped individuals who have no self-esteem and need to get it by pointing at how much worse everyone else in the world is.

The problem is that the term "Christian" is so damned diluted today that you can't assume what a person believes just because they call themselves a Christian.

theoriginalslash: I love how every time someone shoots up a church/religious entity, it turns into a big game of hot potato, with the different interested groups disavowing the person and blaming his (it's usually a him) dysfunction on religion, atheism, liberals, conservatives, TV, video games, drugs, not enough drugs, lack of sex, etc.

It doesn't make any goddam sense, stop trying to distill meaning from it. There isn't any. He was farking crazy. That's all we need to know.

As for the security guard who shot him, first of all: NICE SHOT. I don't believe god had anything to do with it, but if her belief in that helped her take that asshole out before he could kill anyone else, it's fine by me.

Can't we all just get along....

He died from the wound inflicted upon himself but yeah she did get a round off in him but it had nothing to do with God

LibertyFirst: So basically the Christians got what they deserved, and if someone came and killed them all it would be justice...

If you preach hate, don't be surprised if hate comes around and bites you on the ass. I didn't say they deserved it though.

This kid wasn't born a monster, he was made one by a combination of vile fake Christianity and overbearing parents. I think it's too bad he didn't have a chance to grow up, move out, go to college, and learn that the world is much wider and more beautiful than the prejudice he'd been taught.

Aarontology: Anyone else find it somewhat funny that he didn't have a problem killing people, but couldn't bring himself to swear?

It's sad, really. It's a microcosm of the entire incident.

LibertyFirst: He did target Christians specifically.

Here is a link (new window) to his own words before the shooting:

Here is an excerpt:

I'm full of hate and I love it! I hate people and they better @#%$ fear me if they know what's good for them. Yes I hate, I'm headed to Hell and I guess I want others to know it. "Moral Values" people like Christians bring it on themselves....preaching all their bullshiat and trying to take over the world with their Nightmare religion...... "what would Jesus do" and all their ten commandments bullshiat...me.....I will do MY Will and I will kill those who try to thwart my will...Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law....

I dump on the Jeebers as much as anyone but crazy transcends all boundaries, whether they be religious, racial, geographical or whatever. This dude was just a nutjob. Whackadoos lash out at what they can and what they know. The Columbine fruits did it in a school because that's what was there and they were farmiliar with it. This flake just happened to do it in a church because that's what was there. If he was surrounded by shopping malls that he hung out at all the time, he probably would have gone there to freak out.

Bschott007: So...what is this "online forum for recovering pentecostals"? This is just begging for a look.

Check LibertyFirst's link. I was poking around in there last night, the YWAM horror story thread's pretty interesting. Evidently the 'popular kids' get away with murder in Pentecostal youth groups, and get off on enforcing their little pecking orders.

Just like any other facet of teenage life in America since time immemorial, I guess.

To the isolated, young males, of society with a nihilistic world view the Columbine killers were heroes. THAT is the connection.

The above link was messed up. I'll try again (new window).

So? Every time there's a hate crime the news doesn't call it the "Holocaust of [insert pronoun]" or "bringing hitler to [insert location]" That was one specific event and look at all of these differences:
1- no association with a particular 'gang' (trench coat mafia)
2- it's not at a school
3- there was only one shooter
4- the shooter is an adult
5- multiple locations
6- no bombs used to cause chaos

IT'S NOT FARKING COLUMBINE.

All these whacked out shooters target some group. Maybe it's the employees at his former job. The "jocks". The girls that turned him down. They have hate, and they aim it at someone or group. This guy picked Christians. Don't mean a damn thing. Why would anyone care what reason he had for the shooting? He was whacked out of his mind with hate. He wanted to die and take as many people with him as he could. Hell, the one dude shot up a Luby's. There's no making sense of such hate. You know who else hated a group of people?

/Meme for me.

RandomFeature: The problem is that the term "Christian" is so damned diluted today that you can't assume what a person believes just because they call themselves a Christian.

Many people think that just calling themselves 'Christians' is enough to have a happy life, while they don't do the actions the center icon of the religion taught. Being a Christian to the true name is to follow what Jesus taught (do good, be helpful, love one another). But this ideal is not only concerning Christians. Everyone should follow these basic ideas, regardless of belief/non-belief system. This should be the norm for the world. But you have people who say they follow Jesus' teachings (claiming that they are Christians) and then do the 100% exact opposite. They are just using the name but don't want to follow what that name means.

I know that if I was in God's place, I'd rather have people being good to each other rather than care what they label themselves as.

/The label is not important.
//What is important is following the good teachings of that label.

Pretty much this. Evangelical/fundie type churches are the blessed home of Pharisees, Archons, and pit vipers. People with any kind of spiritual sensitivity are rejected and sickened, while control freaks and the totally ignorant gain control of the teaching and administrating.

So? That doesn't mean the event should be compared to Columbine. I mean for fark's sake just let it GO. When there is a school shooting with 2 shooters: fine, that's like columbine. This was more like a disgruntled ex-employee.

Yeah, you would think I'd be over it by now, but when they get you for the first 26 years of your life, and your parents buy their way out of guilt by giving money to the church, and, and, and,...yeah I'm a little bitter.

Indeed. The morality of some of these churches is so skewed in favor of denouncing immoral thought or speech that the message preached by Christ kind of gets lost in the shuffle.

It's possible, but I doubt it.

I feel sorry for them as well, but only in that their name has been tarnished and they lost a son. It would seem that some of the issues he had ultimately stemmed from the upbringing his parents subjected him to.
