I don't own a Harley, but I'm from Milwaukee. This museum will be cool. However, they cleared a stretch of freeway (the "Park East" corridor, for Brew City denizens) to make way for the museum in a location that was then abandoned.

So prime real estate was razed, businesses and residents had to vacate, only for Harley to change their minds and relocate in the Menomonee Valley, a far less desirous location.

But hey, the thunder of thousands of "Milwaukee Iron" riders will make it all worthwhile. Feh.

Never was much a fan of the Harley bikes. they are large, and heavy, and way overpriced.

I'll stick to my little 500cc Gs500f. Gets 58 to the gallon, payments are low, as is my insurrence, and she has enough power to get me to where I wanna go.

Plan on trading up for Versys or yamaha 650 cc bike in a few years.

Harley Davidson IS really more of a merchandising company than a motorcycle company. I don't have the exact figures, but it was something presented to me in a marketing course I took. It was something like that Harley-Davidson makes roughly twice as much more money selling all the crap with their name on it than they do from actually selling bikes.

And, of course, HD will trademark the word "museum" and then proceed to C&D and sue every institution that uses the word.

And then claim they're just protecting their intellectual property like any company should.

True, but Harley's hold their value way more than any rice bike. Oh my Sporty gets 55 mpg, payments are 98 a month and insurance is 32 a month. That's a bargain for me!

Harley is nothing but image. Just about every other motorcycle manufacturer out there makes a better bike.
The most important thing to a Harley owner isn't actually riding the motorcycle. It's to see how much chrome and other BS you can snap on it to impress the other guys.

OK, If there's all of these OTHER great motorcyclyes out there, then where are they, after 10 years or so? In the junkyard, that's where. That's why you see 20 year-old Harleys still on the streets: because they are great motorcycles.

That's true right there, and although the sportster is one I'd love to have, aren't a lot of HD enthusiasts consider it the poor man's Harley?

Nah. It's because a 20 year old harley only has 4K miles on it.

Hmmm, I don't know about you, but I can see quite a lot of old Japanese, English and (to a less degree) Italian motorcycles round me. I still see original CB 750-Four used as commuters around Paris.

I'm going to buy a Harley as soon as I can afford a new pickup to get the bike home.

Actually, that's completely wrong -- a complete myth that's largely perpetuated by Harley dealers. Check any newspaper's classifieds and notice how many are out there for sale. The whole idea that a Harley is somehow rare, collectible, or in high demand is just laughable.

Nothing is worse than harley davidson accessories. Maybe they should just stick to a motorcycle museum....and throw in some actual cool bikes like the old triuphs...

Moichendising, moichendising, moichendising. That's where all the real money is made. Sad what some people here think. I have a Harley, an '04 low rider, and I enjoy the shiat out of it. I rode it from Phoenix to NYC in early October. Obviously the Ducatis and the Honda GXRs are sportier and faster and lighter and all that, but could you sit on one for 400 miles a day for eight days? Probably not.

Clearly there are cruiser dirtbag riders out there. There are also sporty dipshiat riders, too. But for the most part, I find 95% of bikers to be friendly, helpful, and a ton of fun to ride with, regardless of their personal preference of brand of boke.
