you know, as unorthodox ideas go, that actually doesn't sound so bad.

I spent a summer in the UK and never had anyone tell me that they were too drink to drive. Drunk? Yes. Pissed? Yes. shiatfaced? Yes. Never ever Drink. It's shiatty writing and even shiattier editing.

/Put your Romero away.

Did you read any newspapers while you were there? It's "drink driving" in the UK, not drunk driving like it is here.

Awww, it's cute little Joe Arpaio. The pea brained Sheriff who thinks you can arrest your way out of a problem.

/Should probably send him a retard helmet before he hurts himself.

Joe Arpaio is a farking sadistic pig who should spend the rest of his life in prison, the way in which drunk driving laws are currently enforced is absolute bullshiat, and the whole pink clothing thing seems stupid, but this sounds on the face of it like a perfectly fine idea. Having prisoners out doing work, like digging graves for people who died without anyone to pay for a grave, sounds much better than having them sit in a cell.

I disagree. These prisoners should instead be shoveling the corpses into a furnace powering a large mecha-Joe Arpaio. Alcoholics burn quite well.

My mother feared I was abnormal
I'd take out the colander and put it on my head
People are happy when they know that they're protected
Just let me tell you why I'm smiling

I've got my helmet on
Nothing can do me wrong

How about covering how this corrupt a-hole has been trying to rule his area with an iron fist, raiding the wrong houses and starting them on fire.

What a douchebag.

I guess they are homeless and not really people. I guess they were so worthless that we can use them to teach prisoners a lesson instead of treating them with some basic human respect.

Pathetic.

2007-12-13 01:23:49 AM
Hell, I'm still trying to figure out why you elect a sheriff - a position that should be busy enforcing the law with impartiality and without partisanship.

Of course, I also wonder the same thing about district attorneys and judges...

2007-12-13 01:25:49 AM
Hm. This guy looks like a douche on the surface, but after further thought, maybe not so much. He's only a sheriff, and none of his policies (that I've seen) have dealt with invading the privacy or infringing on the rights of the general public, so if you don't drink and drive, beat your wife, or otherwise break the law, you have nothing to fear from this attention whore. And before you get going on 'human rights' for the prisoners, think about how bad it actually is to be living in a tent, wearing pink, and burying bodies. He isn't exactly starving and beating them.

2007-12-13 01:29:00 AM
I hope a relative of one of the dead homeless sues the shirt off this guy. I kind of doubt any of the dead gave consent to be used this way.

2007-12-13 01:29:57 AM
Bury them? He should help with the autopsy of each one, and his victims, THEN bury them.

/that'll teach em.

I may have to stand corrected on my previous post... I just remembered reading about a SWAT incursion, which I believe was in Arizona, that resulted in a runaway tank crushing a parked car, a house burning down with a dog inside, and no real progress being made in the pursuit of their fugitive. Anyone know if that was Arpaio's doing?

You'd be amazed. The county prosecutor will do anything he says, include lambasting judges who rule against him. He plays dirty politics all the time. The man is a crook. Check out the stories on apraio.com and phoenixnewtimes.com. shiat is pretty scary, and I don't even break the law. But I have donated to his political opponents, so that's enough for him to fake a urine sample and have me arrested, apparently.

It's only because you don't know about the man. I lived in Maricopa County for about half a year and before I moved there I probably had the same views you did (mostly from TV) and I made the mistake of mentioning them out loud to some Phoenix natives - and boy did I get an earful.

Basically it boils down to this - He and his department have been responsible for things like continuously raiding the wrong houses, destroying property, destroying and "losing" evidence and even the deaths of several people while in custody in his jail - when I was in AZ the latest person to die in his jail was a retarded kid who had been improperly restrained and then left alone in a holding cell (against department regulations) - he choked to death.

Essentially the man is incompetent and ruthless and it has filtered all the way down from the top to infect most of the cops under his command. Combine that with his obvious political grand standing and you have yourself a grade-A douchenozzle.

On the other hand the man is farking brilliant in a Johnny Cochrane sort of way. He runs quite possibly one of the worst sheriffs departments in the entire nation but he can continuously distract people with things like pink underwear and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. At one of his news conferences I totally expect him to start going into the "Chewbacca Defense" when someone starts asking him about things the three time the national average number of deaths that occur in his jail system.

Yep. Good old Joe (new window). I like some of his ideas, (pink undies are amusing) but he's as corrupt as they come.

Yeah, TheCynic is right. I found the link I was looking for, and I was wrong. This guy is a goddamned fascist and needs to be locked up for life in a dank Mexican jail with a 350-lb. cellmate who is well aware of his policies.

2007-12-13 01:50:15 AM
Sounds good to me.

Actually, I've seen quite a bit of Sheriff Joe, and I have to admit, I do like a lot of his policies, like the day old baloney sandwiches, pink underwear, surplus army tents and portapotties, and a television that only gets two channels: Disney or the Weather Channel. Not to mention the Chain Gang.

2007-12-13 01:50:41 AM
Yep, as I local I can vouch that he's definitely an asshole. But he keeps getting reelected by the blue hair snowbirds.

Now is it wrong that I'm drinking a beer while reading this thread?

I Said: Isn't Sheriff an elected office? I just read some of TheCynic:s link, and unless I'm missing part of the story, why is he still there?

Because the legions of bluehairs in Sun City and Mesa never, ever miss a vote. Simple strategy really, scare the piss out of old people with "illegals," "drunks" and "druggies." They old folks turn out at %98 and vote for the "tough guy" to protect them.

Arpaio is world-class douche and when he finally gets tossed out, the story of nearly 20 years of corruption is going to be Pulitzer material.

BTW, when he was elected back around '92 or '94, his first promise was to be a one-term guy who would "reform" the sheriff's office. That was quite a few elections ago.

2007-12-13 01:59:20 AM

Hell, I'm still trying to figure out why you elect a sheriff - a position that should be busy enforcing the law with impartiality and without partisanship.

So you can un-elect him

"We think the government is absolutely right, that we must educate our children not to do drugs, including alcohol and tobacco.
But that's an obvious policy.
We have also learned that marijuana is no longer simply associated with the so-called drug culture.
And like it or not, marijuana, marijuana for profit, now has roots in mainstream America. This leads inevitably to a discussion about legalization or tougher laws.
That debate is intensifying.
What people need to understand is that the current effort to eradicate growing here at home isn't changing things very much, except to ensure that the price stays high.
Really getting at the people who grow marijuana no longer means closing the borders, but an enormously expensive, invasive, door-to-door campaign.
Which brings us back to that former deputy sheriff in Bacon county. He reminded us that you can only police the people as much as they are willing to be policed.
And how much is that?
I'm Peter Jennings.
Thank you for joining us."

yeah, that should've been the end of his career right there. that's horrible.

dudemanbro: I wish someone would shoot that asshole right between the eyes.

Oh man, you just had to go and say that. Now all we will hear in Phoenix is that there is a dangerous cartel organized through the internet, also affiliated with mexican drug smugglers that have a plan to shoot the sheriff, and all of our civil rights will be suspended until the threat is neutralized. Oh, and after a million tax pay dollars have been spent investigating it. For all the money we have spent on supposed death threats on arpaio, and resulting law suits against the city, it would actually save the city money if someone took care of him

I wouldn't doubt if he has a special division of cops that type 'arpaio' into google every 15 minutes and then hand him a daily report on his way out while asking every hispanic "show me your papers"
