Awesome.

Good so far. Loads slower than molassas in January. The guy in the army uniform playing the acoustic bass (?) at 0:21 looks like a young GWB almost.

2007-12-12 11:50:51 AM
My god, that was incredible ;)

Thanks Smitty. Today is my post-break-up day and I thought it was going to be bullshiat. It still may be, but now I have something to smile about!

In Prague in the early 90's, as part of the campaigning for election of the prime minister, one of the parties (can't remember which) set up a country music booth right downtown and did a bang-up job along these lines; messed up lyrics and accents notwithstanding.

/"and that's burns, burns, burns, that rink of fire ..."

Holy shiat... I was expecting, errr... I had no idea what I was expecting. But that actually kicked ass.

Have you heard The B-52's?

Go check out their cover of California Girls. Known about these guys for awhile. Not that interesting without the choir, and I certainly wouldn't call them pro-rockers.

Basically,I'd prefer just the choir covering these songs.

the part i find funy is that this is from the MTV VMA's from almost 10 years ago

Gmork about covered it.

2007-12-14 12:24:13 PM
From the replies it would appear that nobody has seen the movie "Leningrad Cowboys Go America". Great film. Aki Kourismaki is that great unsung Finnish film director you've been looking for all your life.

Since we're dealing with the Soviet Red Army Choir, would it not have made more sense for them to cover "Georgia On My Mind"?

2007-12-14 12:48:51 PM
Leningrad Coyboys are welcomed to play their version of Stairway To Heaven in my guitar store any day of the week.

2007-12-14 02:08:48 PM
My dad saw them in concert in Finland in the 90's. Brought me back a souvenir Leningrad Cowboys beer can.

It's a good thing they have vodka.

2007-12-14 04:13:24 PM
I think Hank Hill would be very conflicted if he saw that...

2007-12-14 05:05:21 PM
I remember seeing this many years ago. It was so bizarre - yet so cool at the same time.

I think this might have been an MTV awards show and maybe before the breakup of the USSR...but I can't remember for sure.

Thanks subby! They were one of the best things of the VMA's that year, and I have never gotten their pronunciation of "Aah-LA-bah-MA" out of my head. Wow, I never thought I see them again.

/Can't wait to show someone why I say Alabama funny sometimes.
