That's red meat for the GOP base

I was strongly considering voting for Huckabee until he stood by the whole "quarantine people with AIDS" statement. That's crazy.

FLMountainMan: I was strongly considering voting for Huckabee until he stood by the whole "quarantine people with AIDS" statement. That's crazy.

You don't consider any other aspect of his candidacy to be scary? Just that one?

"On immigration, the choice matters," the announcer in the ad says.

Way to make that important distinction between legal and illegal immigration.

Between Romney, Huckabee, and Giuliani, it's more like a contest to see who can be the biggest asshole.

FLMountainMan: I was strongly considering voting for Huckabee until he stood by the whole "quarantine people with AIDS" statement. That's crazy.

Oddly enough, even being gay, I'm more bothered by his desire to build the Mexican border fence. Yes, I think immigration is a problem, but let's be realistic.

Hey Huckabee - China circa 5th century BC called: They want their idea back.

2007-12-11 09:55:33 AM
That's the only thing Romney can attack him on because all the nutty things Huckabee believes in are official positions of the Mormon church too. Women should be subjugated Gays should be sent to an island. Btlack people suck unless converted.

It depends on the fence.

Will it be a tasteful fence or one of those privacy fences?
Will they paint it a horrible color?
Will they put linseed oil on it every spring to keep it looking new?

These GOP candidates are really just kinda pathetic. What ever happened to the true conservatives that used to run the party?

AND WHY IS RON PAUL ONLY POLLING IN THE SINGLE DIGITS?

2007-12-11 01:30:23 PM
I'm less than a mile from the house where Romney employed illegals, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

The GOP is the exclusive property of the religious right. Has been for at least 12 years. A lot of people who have libertarian leanings, myself included, don't feel the party represents us any more. I gave up on the Grand Old Party some time ago.

2007-12-11 01:43:59 PM
If Huckabee gets the nomination, he'll get steamrolled in the general election.

No way Republicans let this guy win the nomination, regardless how much Obama and Hillary salivate at the prospects of this moron running...

His answer(s) on Cuba and AIDS will seal his fate after Iowa...

2007-12-11 01:47:14 PM
Huckabee must being saying the right things in order to get elected if Republicans, that are wanting to get elected, are turning on him. I thought we all wanted politicians to speak their mind on how they feel about the important issues of the day, Huckabee speaks for a lot of people and that is scaring his fellow party members.

2007-12-11 01:48:03 PM
Well that will not play in OH. Or maybe MD

ROMNEY ANGRY! ROMNEY SMASH ILLIGULS!

2007-12-11 01:50:37 PM
Well, why would he attack based on the other crazy things he's said? Much of the GOP agrees with him on the whole gay concentration camp thing and repealing the 19th amendment. It would be like Hillary attacking Edwards for supporting labor unions.

2007-12-11 01:51:50 PM
As much as subby may dislike it, illegal immigration is a major political issue in this country, and "You hate brown people" doesn't qualify as discourse on the subject.

2007-12-11 01:53:27 PM
So, anyone who is against illegal immigration is racist, right submitter?

helix400: So, anyone who is against illegal immigration is racist, right submitter?

With exceptions aside, it's true.

2007-12-11 01:55:01 PM
Wow. It's as if every Republican candidate is trying to prove that they want to kick around immigrants more than all the other candidates. The scary thing is, they are pandering to a large and growing segment of the population who believe America should be the world's walled-in, gated country club.

I guess we're no longer a nation of immigrants.

2007-12-11 01:56:37 PM
The Prophet John Smith taught that black skin is the mark of Cain. Any dark skinned people are always suspect.

2007-12-11 01:58:50 PM
Stuff like this really depresses the hell out of me. I used to be a registered Republican, but it just seems like they forgot about the whole limited government, fiscal responsibility, and strict Consitutionalism thing and just went whole-hog after "We don't like no gheys er no darkies coz Jeesus said so! Now pay up so we kin invade several countries, Dick needs ta bolster his retirement funds!" I mean, there really isn't a place for libertarian-ish ideals in the GOP these days, and God knows the Dems aren't gonna be too sympathetic either. Looks like the next election is gonna be another "vote for the least repugnant".

2007-12-11 01:59:29 PM
helix400: So, anyone who is against illegal immigration is racist, right submitter?

Subby is lying of course. Anti-immigration is plausibly deniable racism. Romney isn't that dumb.

FLMountainMan: I was strongly considering voting for Huckabee until he stood by the whole "quarantine people with AIDS" statement. That's crazy.

People like you scare me. The guy in general is a complete nutbag. This guy makes the current administration look like a bunch of atheists.

Romney was for abortion rights before he was against it.
Romney was hiring illegal immigrants before he was against it.

Heh.

Ok now! We have the answer! Fark em! Yay, all our problems are fixed.

Hey dumbass, do some research into the history of Mexico and why their people aren't taking control of the country and why it is taking so long for the place to become an economic powerhouse.

As to these candidates? Well, they'll do exactly what Bush did in regards to Gay Marriage TM. NOTHING.

2007-12-11 02:05:52 PM
for good or for awesome: So have republicans officially given up on the Hispanic vote?

And the black folks as well. But they will try to win Florida by whipping up a little anti-Castro feeling.

If Castro dies this year, the Republicans will be telling you that W is a cross between Julius Ceasar, Jesus Christ and Ronald Reagan himself, and singing his praise for bringing the Cuban Weltreich to its knees.

Mark my words, as kooky skooky would put it.

you voting for Paul in a Primary though? The best way to take a party back is by participating in it.

rppp01a: As to these candidates? Well, they'll do exactly what Bush did in regards to Gay Marriage TM. NOTHING.

Romney, probably. Guiliani, definitely. In a Huckabee administration, it would be irrelevant, since gays would all be living in concentration camps.

This assumes, of course, that they have a choice to do it legally. Most undocumented immigrants do not.

If we had an immigration policy that welcomed everyone (at least everyone who could pass a simple background check), we'd have far fewer undocumented immigrants to worry about.

I was going to mention something about Cleveland...but, alas, i am too slow.

In a related story, Tom Tancredo took a bit more direct route and blasted Huckabee as being "way too nig-friendly".

You know you're probably in the wrong political party when their debates sound like this:

"I'm tough on IMMIGRANTS!!"
"Oh yea? I'm tough on FOREIGNERS!!"
"Hey, I'm tough on BLACK PEOPLE!!!"
"Lightweight! I'm tough on GAYS!!"
"Well, I'm tough on AIDS PATIENTS!!"
"You all suck. I'm tough on MUSLIMS!"
"Gocha covered... I'm tough on ALL NON-CHRISTIANS!!"
"Stupid! I'm tough on SPANISH-SPEAKERS!!"
"Hey, guys, 9/11! 9/11! 9/11!"
