This is really going to piss off P.E.T.A.

2002-10-11 07:53:20 PM

I wonder if it will feature this goat:

BTW, I just have to say that bigcitytools.com sucks. Is there a reason it takes an average of 20 seconds to contact their server to get their worthless ads that I fail to look at?

The sacrifice of a goat is perfectly reasonable...it's the fasting for a week that I find weird. I'd never make it.

I thought Ananova posts were banned?

You wanna goat? Here's a goat for ya...

2002-10-11 10:04:10 PM
All I ask is they get some babes and one of the contests to be a Wiccan ritual - skyclad, of course.

If they can kill a goat they can damn well show some boobies.

Ananova?

Ananova?

Ananova?

Wow -looks like things on Fark are really changing... first we all lose our # of posts in our bios and now Ananova is back to contribute.

OH HAPPY DAY!

What I am going to laugh at is the Christian fundies who are going to have kittens over it... fark PETA. The reason I find it funny is the sacrafice of livestock is a traditional sacrafice that is layed out in the Old Testament... they would know this if they bothered reading that book they put so much faith in.

Johnny _Wad,

Is that Zamfir?
He looks like he's about to play the pan-flute.

Religion is so entertaining.

The Dutch should stick with what they're good at. Growing tulips, making porn and selling pot.

Sorry, Eat More Possum- didn't see your post.

Definately a sign of the apocalypse.

REPENT! REPENT!

All I've got to say is:

Articles from the following sites will automatically be rejected: Geocities (can't handle the traffic), Ananova (long story) and any site requiring logins to read articles, including New York Times/Chicago Tribune/Dallas Morning News/Washington Post

I sure hope they kill that goat guy who opens "something" with his hands...

2002-10-11 10:32:20 PM
Why did they take out the number of posts?

2002-10-11 10:37:04 PM
Sorry Code,

Christians don't have to sacrifice animals. Jesus took care of that part for us, by sacrificing himself.

Perhaps thats why the bible seens so stupid to you, you did not read it for comprehension, just to get some good quotes to use for your own purposes.

On the other hand, thats what many so called Christians do as well so dont think I'm singling you out.

It's a little annoying they don't say *what* religion does the goat sacrificing. (I'm guessing it's Santeria, since that's the only one sanctioned to do similar things in the US.) Because in, oh, five minutes after this gets released via a more newsworthy outlet here, the fundies are gonna be crying 'Satanism! Holland's full of drugs and Satanic rituals!' When we all know it's just full of drugs.

Code_Archaelogist, you're the one who apparently hasn't bothered to read that book...if you had, you'd know the early Christians renounced animal sacrifice at the Temple in Jerusalem, declaring Jesus to be the "Lamb of God."

FYI, the Jews dropped the practice after the Romans burned down the Temple. You want animal sacrifice, talk to the Muslims during Eid al Adha, the "Feast of the Sacrifice" commemorating Abraham's sparing of Ishmael (their version of the story--it's Isaac in the Bible), cutting a ram's throat instead. Muslims to this day celebrate the holiday by ritually slaughtering an animal, usually a sheep or goat, and giving the food to the poor.

Fark posted a repeat article one day. About a couple hours later Ananova puts up an article with all the stuff ripped from the repeat. They failed to notice the article itself was a year old and passed it off as current news.

And didn't give fark credit (since their source was fark).

ananova...i feel the love.

i thought only god forgives?

Nothing like watching a goat sacrifice to start the day off right.

I'm not a Christian fundy (a Christian - yes. But not a fundy).. :-)

The offensiveness of this is not that it insults Christianity or God or Jesus (which it does), but rather it makes a mockery and spectacle of ALL and ANY religions that are being used as "tasks" or "challenges" or whatever you call them.

To an antheist or to someone that is non-religious it may be amusing, or entertaining, but for me, to put any religion on display to say "hey.. look at what those losers do to worship their deity" is demeaning and in poor taste.

Then again... This Holland we're talking about.. Somehow I'm not surprised.

2002-10-12 01:31:53 AM
Leave the goat alone. It is stupid to kill an animal for entertainment (television) purposes.

2002-10-12 03:39:35 AM
I wonder if they will find some spaced-out do-gooder walking around on the street (plenty of those in Holland, I bet) and then crucify him to death.

2002-10-12 03:40:31 AM
JimDunlop,

That's the entire point for atheists like me. It makes a mockery of religion by following that religion to the letter ("I come not to change one letter of the law"). If I call you a goat farker, it's rude, but it doesn't hurt nearly as much as if I were to accuse you of something that you actually do.

If you follow a religion that is based off a religion that includes animal sacrifice, then you open yourself up to being mocked for it. Your options are to proudly admit that the religion includes sacrifice, and that sacrifice is sacred and a necessary part of worship; or to distance yourself from that part of the religion and reject it as being incorrect, which requires claiming that the bible is not a guidebook to morality.

NukeEurope: See, your logic is valid but only if you happen to be a follower of that particular religion. If you aren't, but just for the sake of a "dare" on a TV show they want you to sacrifice a goat (as an example)... then it does only 2 things: it insults the real goat sacrificers (that DO proudly admit that it is an integral part of their faith), as it mocks the importance it holds for them, and secondly provides a demented form of amusement for those who don't subscribe to that religion (like yourself).

My own beliefs aside, I guess I just find something essentially wrong with a religion servering the sole purpose of providing amusement to a non-believer (or a TV audience)...

But if as you say, the point is entirely to "make a mockery of religion" then it would be just as easy and amusing to make a mockery of your atheism.... But I wouldn't ever think of creating a TV show just to mock your atheism... It just seems like a dumb thing to do with limited entertainment value.

Even though I laugh at a lot of dumb things (hell, I'm a FARKER aren't I?) and was brought up to believe that in comedy there are no sacred cows which should be left unblasphemed, I've realized over time that there is a certain limitation to the truth of that idea. Religion aside, we all have certain "sore spots" about certain topics.... And if someone were to push the wrong buttons, you'd be quite pissed off... (E.g. chances are, you won't find a rape joke funny if your sister or wife was raped).... Well, religion is a sore spot for many, many, many people... and to poke fun at it mercilessly, just because you KNOW you can get a rise out of people doing it transcends funny, and lands right in the middle of immature.
I guess I never understood mocking someone "just because I can" or "just because they opened themselves up to it." :-)

Sorry for the long post..... It's 4:30am, not tired - can't sleep... Nothing better to do but to respond to FARK commentary... Sad, isn't it? ;-P

Religion is a neurosis.

2002-10-12 10:00:35 AM
Let's see them really go for the gusto, and fast for 6 months. First one Jesus saves in person is the winner.

Religion is already a mockery.
As for 'tasks', what are sacraments? Isn't living in this veil of tears (i.e. the Real World) a challenge to theists already?
