(Some Guy)   One-legged Vietnam vet captures escaped, naked prisoner and holds him for police. Proving there's at least one sane American left, he says, "I didn't know whether to take my gun or my cell phone. I took my cell phone"   (modbee.com) divider line 62

The correct answer is 'Both'.

It doesn't prove anything, submitter. If they bg had had a machete or a 2X4 or a tire iron or damn near anything, the guy with the phone would be calling to describe what he had seen as the bg proceeded to bust him up or just wander off into someone else's yard/garage/bedroom.

Naw, I think some one who chases a fugitive without a weapon when they have access to one is begging for bad things.

Submitter baited you...

"I didn't know whether to take my gun or my cell phone," said Garmon, a Vietnam veteran who lost one of his legs in 1999 after he developed a blood clot while he was in the hospital following a heart attack. "I took my cell phone."

Later

"We got on top of him and held him until the cavalry got here," Garmon said. Garmon managed to get a gun from his home to help control Lucas. Modesto police eventually arrived, called by one of the men's wives, and got Lucas into a patrol car after a struggle.

Both is, indeed, the correct answer.

I'm happy nobody was seriously hurt, and glad that, in this particular case, the fugitive wasn't armed or any more dangerous than a naked man can be, but hope that in the future precautions are taken to ensure the public's safety.

Better to hold someone at gunpoint than shoot them or wrestle with them any day.

There was already one 20 posts in, it's not just pre-emptive, it's descriptive of every gun thread. The fact that the people who support widespread gun use are the same ones who seem to jack off to firearms convinces me that everything about it is wrong.

I fully support castle doctrine and the second amendment, but that story a week or so ago about the guy that walked outside with a gun after telling the 911 operator that he was going to go shoot the thieves outside who posed no danger to him whatsoever shook my faith in our gun-possessing public's ability to stay within their rights.

He might have been smarter to take both gun and cellphone in the first place, but all's well that ends well. Hero tag well deserved, bad guy captured, and no shots fired. Gun control at its finest.

That way you get real-time communication with 911 *and* suppressive fire when necessary.

Through all the sound and fury in this thread -and starting with the headline- the last part of the article is what I find interesting:

1. The "naked clown guy" was eventually controlled....by a gun.

2- "Naked clown guy" was on his second episode of doing his thing, the first terminating with him being copped with butcher knife in hand. No mention of why he's on the loose the second time; sounds like someone got some heavy 'splainin to do.....

2007-12-08 03:50:37 PM
Ah, California. Where gun owners have to be so afraid of the police treating them worse than the criminals that they'd rather face a potentially drugged out assailant with a phone.
