LemSkroob: Yes, prohibition may have end, but the Militarized and greatly expanded police force that was created because of it, just keeps on going.

There's nothing wrong with lots of cops.

It was in black and white.

You must not be a black man. Because it makes the black man lust after white women. Would love to make it legal, but we can't be having that goin' on, ya hear?

No no, it's because mj slows down their(blacks, mexicans) brain so they can play the devil's 'jazz' music, in order to woo white women away from their husbands

/yes, that was the argument they used to get it banned in the first place

I think it's much simpler. Politicians and people who tend to vote like to drink... just like everyone since like the middle ages. They also tend to want to protect the children, and they have to keep that evil weed illegal for the soccer moms in their district.

People who tend not to vote or be politicians like the other stuff... hence, there's nothing to be gained in legalizing the other stuff.

It's one of the reasons you'll never see tobacco illegal. Politicians smoke.

Eat_At_Milliways: Tragic day in history

/alcohol is one of the worst substances you can put into your body
//it will be the downfall of the Republic

actually, the Romans proved that the downfall of the Republic was stretching its military powers too far to run efficiently, and allowing too many foreign populations to become Roman Citizens who don't hold any real interest in the fate of Rome itself.

/Good thing that kind of thing doesn't happen now.
// Oops, nevermind

2007-12-05 11:44:51 AM
The catch-22 is, society would be a lot better off if no one drank. But alcohol is just too good to pass up. Oh well. Cheers, everyone!

If only we could have learned from this experience 50 years ago that prohibition does not work, then we could have saved so much money that has been, is being, and will be wasted on the war on drugs.

This is the contact page for the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, the people largely responsible for bringing about Prohibition. Yes, even I had thought they were relegated to the dustbin of history, until I stumbled upon their website a few years ago.

Feel free to send the appropriate "Ha Ha! You lost!" messages to them on this fine day.

They are still around, holy crap, my great-grandmother was a member and marched several time for prohibition. This weekends first round at the bar, I'm dedicating it to them and their epic fail.

They used to make Olde Frothingshosh Pale Stale Ale.
Guaranteed to fit any size glass.

Marijuana could have prevented the war in Iraq.

Bag-o-Nugs: If only we could have learned from this experience 50 years ago that prohibition does not work, then we could have saved so much money that has been, is being, and will be wasted on the war on drugs.

The War on Drugs wasnt started to stop people from doing drugs. It was started as a way to arrest the kinds of people that might take drugs.

There is a VERY good reason why The Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 was created at the height of the Vietnam war protest demonstrations.

Wow. Just... wow. It's like a compendium of all the pot myths from the last half century in one place. I honestly expected to see them state that it makes black men rape white women, too.

It's kind of interesting when you talk to people about the stuff in the history books. My grandfather, as a teenager, helped to dig graves during the 1919 Flu pandemic.

/Cute pic by the way.

dittybopper: My grandfather, as a teenager, helped to dig graves during the 1919 Flu pandemic.

My godfather and his dad used to make homemade wine under prohibition. Some how... the weekly trucks of grapes, and the trash filled with everything but the juice, never set off any bells with the local authorities...

Then don't put it in your body. However it does come in conveniently sized glass bottles for smacking over the head people who tell me not to put it in mine.
