I know a very nice girl (TFette) who has succumbed to alcoholism. :(

I want to help her, but she doesn't seem very receptive as yet.

CULTURE CANNOT CHANGE. Jesus died for your sins.
I hate it when people say things like "the decline of our culture" If you love the past so much why don't you marry it. I for one welcome our new "sugar-coated, air-brushed, painfully-thin" overlords

Wow, the writer didn't seem bitter at all...

While I never really liked the Spice Girls, I have to admit that I never really saw them as anything especially bad. I also never saw them as the anti-christs of feminine culture, especially when there were so many more appropriate candidates out there at the time.

I just love how at no point in the article she turns that finger away from the SG & tries to point it at the parents who allow their precious little snowflakes to become the monsters they are now. Maybe if more people actually took responsibility in their personal & parental lives there'd be fewer screwed up kids out there. I also love how she is overgeneralizing the entire female populace at large. Most of the kids are actually pretty decent kids. Everyone hit a rebellious stage in their lives, but very few of us stayed there. It's just that the kids who seem to want to screw their lives up end up being more prominent in our society.

I sort of got off on a rant there.I just hate it when people try to scapegoat celebrities for their own failings in life.

KramericaWallet: Obviously nothing could ever be the parents or older generation's fault.

Remember when we told you that your music was shiat and you were making bad decisions? I do. Remember what you said? I think it was something like "I HATE you, You're ruining my life!", and then you snuck out to get high and screw your girlfriend in the woods, and she got pregnant. Then you had to quit school and get a job, but instead of saving money you went out and partied while your mother and I raised your little brat because you got busted making meth and we haven't seen that little slut you married for two years?

Yeah, I can see where it's our fault.

Magical Mystery Meat

Name ONE female performer pre-1983 that was as blatantly sexual, or used sex as a gimmick, as much as Madonna.

Difficulty; they have to be as big as she is/was.

Bukharin

Mae was bawdy, but not really a slut. I also don't think she inspired too many young girls of the 30's to dress and act like her, either.

I was speaking more in MMM's reference to "Boone's Farm" which lead me to believe he was referring to women from the 1960's and 70's.

Never heard of "happy slappings" before this article. Looked it up and still don't quite grasp the concept.
WTF is so happy about getting slapped?

On the other hand, if someone were to biatch-slap Vice President Cheney or Jesse Jackson or some other elitist criminal, I think I could manage a smile.

Tell me more of this "happy-slapping".

Is this some Britishism I'm unaware of?

In other news, I know a guy who went to see their show in Vancouver, because he likes the Spice Girls. Pretty rational guy otherwise. The human race can be really weird.

In the likely case that they won't allow my comment to be added to the end of the piece, my open letter to the author of TFA:

Fay,

I read your entire article and I have a few thoughts.

Not everything in the last decade can be related to even a trend in music, let alone a particular band within the pop genre.

Even if you're doing it for comedic effect, it belabors the point.

You don't need to begin a new paragraph for every single sentence.

The net effect of your writing "style" is to leave a reader with the impression that you speak in a series of tic-like verbal exclamations as ideas pop into your head.

That's actually only two thoughts, but because I started a new line for every thought, it seems like I'm expressing so much more.

Real feminists love sex.

Real feminists wear tight miniskirts or not based on whether they like wearing them.

Real feminists shag indiscriminately or don't based on what they feel like doing.

Real feminists either like the Spice Girls or not based on their taste in music, not some headline-whoring 'got to fill the inches' need to biatch about something relevant to entertainment news.

This columnist is not a real feminist and the rest of us will not be following her. Not queen of womyns. Can't has. STFU attention whore.

/the part of me that's still eleven years old is still a huge Spice Girl fan.
//which is to say 'I just bought tickets for theh tour! Takin' all my sistahs! Girl Powah! Eeeeeee!'
///real feminists let their inner child play sometimes.

If the Mail insists on having authors rant on about how some part of popular culture has brought down society and how it was much better in the old days, they could at least hire somebody who can write.

This is a trick question, right?

No, I have to pay taxes like everyone else.
I named one of my dogs after the local catholic priest because they sort of resemble each other, do I get partial credit for having a reverend in the household?
