Yeah, because getting pregnant will solve all your problems and make him want to be with you.

TFA: But Kirsty, who has taken part-time jobs to fund her studies, said: 'I don't want to do that because it is wasting my life.'

She's smart. She'll go far in life.

That quote caught my eye as well.

If only there were people you could elect as representatives. You know, guys you could call on to advocate for your cause versus the government machine. Wonder who that would be.

/looking at you Mr. Davies

What do you people expect? The school staff to take up a collection to pay her way for her? shiat happened, she got pointed to a loophole to game the system and instead of saying, "No, I'll try something else," she raised a fuss about it. It might not be a good option, but when you lose both your parents and are thrust head-first into real life, there probably aren't any good options. WTG farking over the people vaguely trying to help you. The administrators are no saints here, but when you're up against a wall like that you're really not their concern anymore. Their job is to get everyone through, not hand-hold problem cases. Yeah, it's tragic, there are probably a dozen other equally tragic stories at that school alone who haven't gone running to cry to the press.

2007-11-28 04:40:10 AM
To the farkwits that can't read:
The school has nothing to do with this. She can't afford to stay in school. The local benfits office have stopped giving her any money, as she earns too much from her part time job. It's not as if she seems like exactly the sort of person that we want to nurture and encourage. Far better to give our money to the wee slappers dropping a sprog every five minutes.

2007-11-28 04:40:17 AM
why oh why do i think this story is a bit fishy? read it on the way into work this morning in the metro and im fairly sure that there might be some creative reporting of the truth going on. in much the same way that peg-leg gold digger wants us all to drink rats milk.

So her parents were too shortsighted to have a life insurance policy... Send her to a Dickensian workhouse and serve her some delicious gruel.

I don't get why she's losing her benefits.

Is there some special law that says "If your parents die, then you lose all funding." How the hell do you vote for something like that.

2007-11-28 06:33:33 AM
Are you people kidding me? That's eminently hittable. And no, not in a 18th-century Holland way.

But her income support and benefits were taken away because she earned too much - £150 a week - working part-time as a chef.
