I thought you couldn't leave money directly to your pet. How does that work? Does the money go to the pet's caretaker, to be used exclusively for care of the pet, or what? Any lawyer types want to answer this?

Yes, the pet has a trustee, to which the pet is a ward. If you read the article, they are interviewing the pets trustee. Of course, in cases like this, where the trustee has power of attorney, the trustee usually ends up with most the money for "services rendered".

She probably loved that little doggy like a child and just wanted to make sure someone really took good care of it. If someone gave me control over 12 million bucks to take care their dog I would make darn sure the puppy was spoiled.

Disturbing news flash. She thought it was the reincarnation of her dead husband. She treated it as if it were such. That included kissing. With tongue. Have fun with that mental image.

Someone explain to whoever is making the threats that you can threaten a person, but not a dog because the dog doesn't know WTF you're talking about. Talk about an epic case of you're doing it wrong.

I don't want to kill the dog, but can we please reinstate the estate tax?

And can we stop perjoratively referring to the estate tax as a death tax?

And stop misleadingly referring to what is clearly a tax on a transfer of wealth as double taxation?

And maybe stop lying to people that estate taxes will kill off the American family farm? While we're at it, maybe we can put to rest the myth that the American family farm even still exists?

But perhaps I ask too much.
