tonesskin: Pandora27: Toneskin: I expect a huge market for these on eBay. And I can't wait to buy them all to "give" to female friends.

So are you going to force feed them the beads, then? I dount they will eat the beads willingly.

I'll tell them it is colorful tapioca in their bubble tea.

I LOL'D!!! But I do want to say real bubble tea is good!

saw a guy with a pendant made from these on the weekend made to look like a unicorn, he was also "off chops"

from Wiki:

They were recalled in Australia after a two-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl became seriously ill after they swallowed large numbers of the beads

Heh, we spotted that ad while perusing the paper at work too.

The chemical they were supposed to use costs $9500 a metric ton in China. The substitute chemical the plant used instead cost $1500 a metric ton. Or so it's been reported and so goes the responsibility dodging by the importer and designer of the toy.

As advertised on Fark.

The guys living in million-dollar homes who profited immensly by moving production from the U.S. to China, and further profited for awhile by not overseeing that production well enough to prevent their toys from containing toxins that could be partly responsible for the spike in learning disabilities lately?

They're getting a kick out of these replies.

It is used to reduce cataplexy. A disturbing effect of narcolepsy.

Digitus Impudicus: How the hell do you make a toy and not notice that it's freaking GHB?

Because it wasn't a mistake

or b/c it was made in china by the same type of corporations that put lead in kid toys because it is cheaper that way. Just a thought

I would not be surprised if those plastic BB's for those Airsoft pistols and machine guns are not the same thing as aqua dots.

So according to our arcane drug laws should the DEA seize all of the toys r us stores and take all of their money as drug profits?

give me doughnuts: overdork: Why can't the media ever mention GHB without the tag "date-rape drug?

The FDA approved GHB as a legal medication over 2 years ago under the name, Xyrem.

While no one wants there children ingesting GHB, the systematic demonisation by the media is a bunch of sensational BS.

/narcolepsy free
//loves GHB
///so what

And you have a legitimate reason to have a bottle of GBH in your pocket.
GENIUS!

NEVER said I had any. Just said I like it.
PAY ATTENTION.

When I was thumbing through the adds, I noticed that Target was also having a sale on Auquadots(sp). I had a feeling it might be trouble for them when I saw the ad. The thing about the sales papers is that they are printed a month in advance.

2007-11-26 06:55:09 AM
Well I decided to comment before looking at the thread.
Goodnight Irene I want you to know I've always been a day late and a dollar short. I shall scan comments next time before commenting.

I mistook BHG, for BGH. a steroid used in dairy cattle.

Utterly big boobs would be involved, and I could go blind.

/pleasantly.

ssrat: Toys R us (how do "R"?) are utter BS liars, yes the ads are prepared months in advance but they are not PRINTED until , usually no more than a week 1/2 in advance which is about a month AFTER this was pulled.

Actually, the ads are printed at least a month in advance, if not more. The stores recieve the advance copies and some poor schmuck gets to go through the store with a scanner and make sure all the advertised products ring up at the advertised price so there's no confusion at sale time. I know this because at one point in my illustrious career, I was that poor schmuck.

Azzaman: WTF are Aqua Dots...

You're Welcome

2007-11-26 07:54:01 AM
Has anybody here eaten a handful of these to see what they'd do?

2007-11-26 08:00:20 AM
I realized that I'm getting old when I shared the inital Aqua-dots recall with my friends via e-mail and all the responses were along the lines of "Oh Noes I'd better make sure my kid doesn't have any of these" and there was nary a single "Cool, I gotta snap these up before they pull them from the shelves." message

2007-11-26 08:12:37 AM
To anyone hoping to eat these on purpose: please keep in mind that only the coating on the beads may metabolize into GHB, and even if it does, you'll still have several uncomfortable lumps of plastic sitting in your gut for several hours.

2007-11-26 08:16:06 AM
Ishidan: Quick introduction to human biochemistry. They didn't use GHB, they used a chemical that turned into GHB when ingested.

Dude, that is far too much interesting, useful and factual information for a Fark comment. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I'm sorry, but if you wanted to buy freaking little chocking hazard like those ruberry dots to your kids as christmas presents, you failed as a parent the moment you payed for it, not the moment they found GHB in it.

They don't look big enough to choke on. Anyway, I don't think that they were marketed towards kinds in the choking age category.

Maybe not as a dot, but stick 3 or 4 of them together... And even older kid put them in their mouth, as demonstrated by how they found the GHB.

I though they would've recaled them for other reasons, but I knew they would at some point. The reason why they did surprised me though.

So do I just suck on a handful of them for a while?

Maybe soak them in Votka? Drink the shot.

Come on people, I need to get farked up on these things. Think of the children.

You're doing it wrong.

The newspaper I work for requires all pre-printed inserts to arrive in our warehouse AT LEAST a week before the rundate. During the holidays, we require two weeks.

2007-11-26 09:37:11 AM
Here's a question:

So what?

The toy has been recalled. The worst thing that can happen is that a stupid parent who hasn't been following the news goes to Toys 'R' Us and asks for the toy and they don't have it.

2007-11-26 11:51:39 AM
Looks like some are still being sold
Here (new window)

I love how its the EVIL Toys R Us that is getting all the flack for running the ad and the darling of the "cheap chic" crowd seemingly gets a pass. Heard the report on the radio, nary a mention of Tar-zhey.

Imagine if it had been Walmart.

It was in our WalMart flyer up here in Ontario....cheap too!

I don't care as long as I can get like 40 boxes of lawn darts this year. The hot new backyard game that anyone can play!

And Harry Potter Nimbus 2000 broomsticks for the kids.

Aqua Dots are good for rape rape.

2007-11-26 02:52:09 PM
I had something like this as a kid. Only you organized the dot-things, then pressed a redhot iron to them, and they kind of melted together. Makes a lil' GHB seem a hell of a lot safer.

The Toys "R" Us circular distributed Sunday advertised the beads with a photo on page 2 under the heading "Girls Gift Sale."

I already bought a gross of Aqua Dots for all the girls I know on my Christmas list. So I will be getting a kick out of these replies, eventually.

I bought these for my daughter... I've since taken them away.

I was curious how they managed to stick together with just water, but it works!

Looks like I'll have to wait a while to sell them on ebay... they're taking down all auctions...
