PolloDiablo: Yep, because every time I'm at a bar in College Station (Texas A&M) or Austin (UT) and I see some meathead fratboy acting like a complete farking tool or trying to start a fight because someone was "lookin at his girl" I think to myself, "I sure would feel safer if I knew THAT guy was packing heat during biology class."

His attitude might be different if he suspected that he might get shot for starting a fight.

I mean how many gunfights broke out in saloons and streets back in those days?

Less than they do now. As you had an excellent chance of getting killed.....

They were much more violent than they are now that is for sure, but they sure as hell happened less frequently.

I see guns as offensive weapons, not defensive. Unless you intend to kill someone, why carry one?
Great logic there.

Unless you intend to have a fire in the house why have smoke detectors or fire extinguishers?

Unless you intend to crash your car why wear a seat belt?

Unless you intend to get robbed why have insurance?

Unless you intend to get sick why ever goto the doctor?

Got anymore brilliant bits of insight?

When I wasn't chasing skirts and getting drunk, I sometimes worried about my coursework. Guns simply weren't on my agenda.

/mostly true.

It all comes back to a very basic idea: if you tell people who have access to guns that they can't bring guns into an area, then the only people with guns will be the people who don't give a damn about the rules anyway. When guns are outlawed, only outlaws yadda yadda yadda... but, seriously, what's the point? People who intend to shoot up a campus aren't going to stop just because you have some rules against packing.

Gun control advocates are by nature ignorant of the law and the constitution.

mkfreeberg: More guns, less crime.

And who couldn't argue with an argument proposed by some guy who wrote a book that he felt so insecure about, that he had to astroturf for it on Amazon? Oh, and let's not forget that when Lott was asked to provide is data for verification, that he conveniently had a hard drive crash - but was still somehow able to replicate all that data for his revised edition of the book but still withhold it from his critics.

If the students were packing heat at V-Tech, there would have been a zillion more deaths - the police wouldn't have had a clue who the bad shooter was and the good shooters would all be shooting each other. It's a dumbshiat idea and the folks who think it's a good idea are dumshiats.

What are the details???

......interesting

she was on her way to school and brought a piece of toast that she was using the butter knife to butter.

we have 2 people who drive around the campus to make sure no one is skipping or doing drugs (which they FAIL at.) one of the people must have seen it on her dashboard. she got expelled which meant she couldnt be validictorian. i'm not sure about the scholarshisp but i think it was reduced.

He argues, like most gun rights advocates, that weapons-free regulations only deter law-abiding students, not thugs or mentally ill shooters.

"Laws only affect the people who voluntarily abide by them," Flitcraft said.

amen. apparently some people believe that because a law is passed, it's followed.

gun free zones only disarm the good guys.

takesdeepbreathkickspuppy: Jesus. The last farkin group of people in this country that needs to be armed is a bunch of ya-hoo's from San Marcos. That place is a notorious bone-head factory.

For some reason, a lot of people tend to think that a bunch of bonehead frat boys who spend every waking moment drinking and fighting are going to rush out and spend the time and money to get a concealed carry license and buy a handgun to carry to campus with them.

Why do you assume that this will happen?

Obviously banning handguns helps decrease crime rates. Afterall, look at the low crime-rate that D.C. has, and handguns have been banned there for years.

/For the record, IMO - guns need to stay the hell off school grounds by faculty and students.

Beacuse there are bad people in the world that will attempt to hurt you and your loved ones. And yes, I fully intend to kill them if they try. Of course I live in canada so I will have to do it with my sparing swords or my knives which will be far more unpleasant for the attacker then getting shot would be.

Also, define a DEFENSIVE weapon. Maybe we should be selling people bean bad guns or something...because we all know that non lethal weaponry never gets abused due to a lack of percieved consequences..../sarcasm off

"If there's more we need to do, we certainly need to do that, but introducing random access to firearms is not the solution," said Hamm. "You have more victims, not fewer victims."

In other words, the Brady Campaign sees you with a gun wanting to protect yourself as "A random person with a gun".

More victims than 32? I doubt it!

But, this is kind of old news. Their goal is to remove guns from the world unless it is the guns of their bodyguards.

"It's not a situation where you can fight fire with fire," Soya said.

I can tell you, a bullet in the center of the head will stop someone from shooting at you. But, first and foremost, the number one thing it will do, is prevention.

Alphax: I don't follow your logic. Are there any instances where you have to murder someone in an emergency?

Here in Houston, there are frequent home invasions. And, the invaders often kill the residents while robbing them.

Sometimes, when the residents are armed, they're able to get off the first shot and kill the invaders.

There will always be emergencies where you'll have to kill someone.

What if your attacker is more skilled with his gun than you are?

What if you and someone get into an argument, and one party irrationally uses their gun?
What if...

Or at least wound them enough to get their weapon, pistol whip them with it. tie them up. pee on them. and then let the police know that they peed themselves after falling down some stairs. If the cops ask how the urine got on the perp's face just tell the cops he had a boner when he peed.

This is such a farking stupid idea I am blown away by the idiocy of it.

Question, when cops show up to a bank robbery to they shoot the security guards?

Do the security guards shoot at the cops?

You assume some seriously faulty positions.

1. That people would keep shooting once the school shooter was dead.

2. That people who are helping everyone else wouldn't comply with the cops when asked to drop their weapons.

3. That the people who are shooting back at the school shooter don't have witnesses yelling to the cops that they are fine shoot the bad guy. Let alone the CCW people saying the same thing.

4. That cops just shoot people with guns in their hands even if the cops aren't being aimed at, and get away with it.

5. That the ccw people would shoot at each other instead of the guy capping students.

If more students were carrying, and the police were unsure of who the aggressor was, then they'd be correct in arresting all those who fired shots and having an investigation.

I fully expect that if someone ever breaks into my house and I am force to shoot them dead, that I would also be arrested, pending further investigation. I suspect many gun owners feel the same way.

I'm not being sarcastic. I am not anti-gun. I'm quite pro-gun actually. Hell, i'm even trying to convince my wife to get a C&C, since she works in downtown Dallas.

But...i also know that many, if not most college kids are too damned stupid to drink responsibly, much less carry a handgun responsibly. Giving them permission to do so isn't very bright.
