He had 4 against the 49ers last season.

Why is everyone (announcers, analysts, "Wide Stance" King) making such a big deal out of the qb sneak call in the Indy game? It was a pretty standard call in that situation and had a high chance of succeeding. Besides, Dungy knows that he's Mario to Herm's Koopa Troopa (hit him once and he goes into his shell), so it seemed like the obvious call to me.

I liked that call. And if they fail then Dungy has enough confidence in one of the best Ds in the league to stop KC from getting into scoring position.

Yeah, my roommate (Colts fan) and I were calling for it pretty much before 4th down. You've got a huge QB and not that far to travel. QB dive.

Who does Peter King have naked pictures of? Or maybe it's who did he blow? He sucks. The only thing he has going for him is access to players, but then that's the same thing that causes him to selectively fellate certain players every week in his column.

Hell, you don't even need a good D to stop a Herm offense. On the last play of the game, down by 3 with 4 secs left and 60 yards for the score, Herm was more worried about the interception than winning.

If Westbook had a smart coach, he'd be an even bigger monster.

Playing in the rain and wind against a bad run defense?

Andy calls:

Pass
Run
Pass
punt
pass
pass
run
pass
run
pass
pass
pass

punt
run
pass

Yeah, never mind that KC this year is like Our Sisters of Mercy High School's football team.

Seriously....13-10 against the Chiefs? At home?

I remember last year when Peter King was furiously fellating Drew Bees, and even complimented him on being a great citizen for picking up dog shiat while they were walking.

I'd continue posting but I'm too busy laughing.

Brian Westbrook kept the Eagles in the NFC playoff race by himself.

Playoff race? Huh?

The Eagles may not be mathematically eliminated yet (but no teams in the NFC are. Theoretically the Rams or Niners could run the tables and get in at 8-8...)

but they are .500 with 2 games against the two best teams playing (patriots and cowboys) plus two playoff players the Giants and Seahawks and then finally two decent teams, Bills and Saints.

Will the Eagles be favored in a single game in that stretch? Maybe against the Bills or Saints, but I dunno. How are they going to pull four or five wins out of that stretch?

I'm having a tough time understanding your logic here. Would you care to expound a bit?

2007-11-19 12:20:46 PM

Assuming the Eagles drop to 5-6 next week in Foxboro, they'd have to win either four or five down the stretch to make the playoffs, against a pretty tough schedule: Seattle, New York Giants, at Dallas, at New Orleans, Buffalo. With McNabb playing so up-and-down, Westbrook's going to have to be the guy to get them to January. I don't like the Eagles a lot these days, but my money's on them to sneak in if Westbrook can hold up and touch it 30 times a Sunday from here on out.

I mean, seriously!? You'd put money on the Eagles to win 4 or 5 out of five games all against teams as good or better than them?

This isn't basketball and Brian Westbrook is LeBron James.

True, but going for it on fourth down instead of kicking a field goal when you have a multi-touchdown lead in the second half is an asshole thing to do. Twice. Classless coach.

a field goal where they were on the field last night is guaranteed points. a fourth-down try is less likely to succeed. so going for it on fourth is at least giving the defense a chance to stop them.

and hell, last night buffalo couldn't stop some who-dat reserve fullbacks from plowing through the line. who says they deserved any mercy if they weren't even trying.

Thank you, albo, for finally pointing that out. I don't see how so many people keep arguing that going for the guaranteed three points is better "sportsmanship" than taking a risk of getting nothing. If a defense ever stopped NE on these 4th down plays, it would be a big step towards not running up the score.

Agreed.

It would seem in lopsided games some people would like to see the QB take a knee on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th down just to hand the ball over so the other team would not lose face.

I know, seriously - I'm an Eagles fan, and you'd have to be nuts to think that with the schedule they have left, they have any chance to make the playoffs. Then again...

a) It is the NFC
b) They're behind the Lions, who have 3 games against 9-1 teams left, plus SD, KC and Minnesota
c) The Jets beat the Steelers. I mean, come on - farked up stuff happens.

brian westbrook should be in the conversation for best RB in the league, but he is always overlooked. i think just now people are starting to catch on to how great he is. it helps that there is a little more balance to the eagle offense.

what i also like about him, is he never gloats, or pulls the whole "i NEED to have the ball more". even when reid was passing WAY to much, he would say things like "id like thave teh ball more, but andy has a game plan". also, he always gives credit to his line and teammates.

here is his quote from yesterday:

"Thomas (Tapeh) did another great job of blocking those linebackers," Westbrook said. "He had a great game last week and he did another great job of cutting them sometimes, high walling them sometimes and he kept them off-balance pretty much the entire game. My hat goes off to him as well as the guys up front that did it pretty much the entire game.

"When you have an offensive line, fullback, tight ends and receivers blocking for you the way I did, you are going to have some success and we did that today."

to me, thats classy. it what you say when you recognize your part of a team.

now if only the eagles would get their shiat together consistently. this weeks game against the pats will probably be pretty ugly

It wouldn't surprise me if the Eagles upset a better team or even if they upset two. I just dont' think they are going to upset THREE while also beating two teams that are about as good as them.

Then again, you make a good point that for the last wild card spot only the Lions are ahead of them... but, OTOH, the Eagles are tied at .500 with the Redskins and Cardinals who both have easier schedules (the Cards have a significantly easier one).

Then you also have the Saints, Panthers, Bears and Vikings who are only one game behind. Vikings obviously suck and the Panthers aren't going to make it, but the Saints have a relatively easy schedule and could possibly run the tables.

If I had to make a bet, I'd go with the Cards and Giants as the WCs, with Lions coming up short.

Which is why part of me wants to see the Pats take an early 14-0 lead on the Jets, then just take a knee on first through third downs then punt it away on fourth down for the rest of the game. That would be a much bigger "fark you" to the Jets than beating them 70-0.

I thought it was cool of the Bills to NOT accuse the Pats of running up the score, but to correctly point out that it was their job to stop them.

I also agree with Brady that it is the offense's job to try to score every time they get on the field. The object is not to go three and out.

I actually kept watching the game much longer than I normally would have because the Patriots kept running their offense.

I got over the whole 'running up the score' thing, though I hate the patriots like I do the fins.

That Offensive Line is the best line I've seen in a decade or so. And that's what it is all about- that line. Put Cassell- hell put JP Losman back there- and they'd thrive like Brady.

Fixed. Sorry, but no one has ever thrived like Brady currently is. If the Patriots don't lose and he throws ~60 TD passes we might just be putting that whole Best QB Ever debate to rest.

If Manning, Elway, Montana, or any of the other greats had that o-line and those receivers I"d expect them to do as well or better.

I don't think this puts anything to rest. ALthough it is funny how the stats were all irrelevant in the debate when Manning owned them all, but now they are what will put hte issue to rest...

Just want to add that one need only look at Brady's success in the past when he was without his current stable of receivers to truly appreciate how effective his game-play is.

When The Patriots went on there 18 (or 21) game winning streak, John Madden stated that opponents were at the point where they were expecting to lose. I think that time is here again.
