The whole "social" aspect of being at a bar just went about 40,000 feet over your head. Yet your face is stuck in some little trinket with buttons and a screensaver.

friends, less-than-friends, special friends, I'm not unfriendly, I just don't care and am mostly not interested.

the Sidekick's cell coverage isn't the greatest. It works for me because I hate voicemail and talking on the phone. texts are also good for communicating at my job (where I must always be quiet.)

Sleepwalker's Wet Dream: nrv0us: I work for an IT unit serving a major University. In a recent focus group discussion with some incoming freshmen about their tech habits, one of them said something that completely blew my tiny mind. Ready?

"Email is for old people."

/Holy crap

I don't know what your university is like, but I'm a Faculty of IT student and the email situation is farking ridiculous. I get at least 50 blanket emails a day that go out to everyone in the faculty/university and they're NEVER applicable to me. What's worse is that they give us a trifling 20mb email space, and douchebags keep sending 2mb attachements of some pdf for some subject I'm not even in, making my email go over quota.

sorry, just had to vent.

I get that at work too, except I forgone the choice of whether I want to use email or not. If you're 50 feet away from me, come find me. Don't call me over the PA to tell me if I checked for some memo. You know where the fark I am, come tell me.

Didn't read everyone's comments, but isn't text messaging the same thing as passing notes in class? Pass a note if you are too chickenpoo to do ask her in person...

/same poo, different day

HunterNIU: teeny: that's awesome.

Woo Woo Grabowski: Touché HunterNIU - well played.

Thank you, I'm goint to add you both to my profile tomorrow. (Gotta leave work now.)

/spent a lot of time playing Jedi Knight in a "hacking" clan when I was young
//learned alt-codes for those letters so i could make my name something others had a hard time typing so they couldn't boot me as easily
///yes i was one of those dicks when i was 13
////now i'm just a huge friggin nerd

Actually you don't even need alt codes anymore. There's more than a few fonts and dingbat things that do just nicely. In any language.

How do you type on a computer then? Are you a librarian? Keystrokes make noise too. And phone calls to anyone.

Whoa pilgrim, I have been misquoted: HunterNIU is responsible for that gem.

KJUW89:

I made a comment to my husband recently that it's strange to think of something that came into existence and became basically obsolete within our lifetime.

you mean like VHS, audio cassettes, pagers, segways, floppy disks and pay phones?

Is this in U.S. America? Or the Asian countries, or such as?

Barnstormer: I may be over the hill, but I just can't see the point of spending two minutes typing something with one's thumbs, usually with poor grammar, when a ten second phone conversation could convey the same information.

Now pull them pants up, put on a belt and get off of my lawn!

Yeah, except a lot of people LOOOVE to talk on the phone, and a lot of people (like me) don't. I can send my mom/boss/friend a quick txt, or be stuck on the phone with them forEVAR.

Kids spending 4 hours a day IMing sounds troublesome... But my point was sometimes a text is way quicker.

What the fark happened to the days when kids sat around and smoked dope in their parents basement and/or raided their liquor stash? How about listening to Dad's old Pink Floyd albums while engaged in the aforementioned activities? Or god-forbid, make out with a girl in the backseat of a car? For god's sake kids, you're doing it wrong!!!!

Now go fetch Ambassador Ahab some more Vodka!!

My daughter does nothing but IM. I'm torn because she doesn't really do anything constructive but on the other hand, she never leaves the house so she's not getting coked up and riding some hippie's crank.

Huh - I read the headline as "infant massaging". The valley-girl talk was completely lost on me at that point.
