I couldn't find Britney Spears anywhere in this story and why was she flaming them?

Deeply, deeply stupid and greedy people. Totally without merit. They should be fined for idiotic litigation.

I think people should be given fair warning.

On their house put *Warning* Morons inside, and do the same for their car

Why not cover each pop tark in asbestos? Yay, evolution in action.

OK, that's not workable.

On threads like these I always look out for comments by Salah (I wasn't kidding about the "voice of reason"). What merit might be hidden by the formulation of the article?

Were they...FABULOUS?

The sprinkles!! For God's sake, save the sprinkles!!!

I suppose I could have submitted this but, Flaming Pop-Tarts are not a new phenomenon.

2001-07-29 10:55:48 AM
Let's top the "stupid people" cake with a lawsuit filed by their neighbors for endangering their welfare by leaving unattended food.

2001-07-29 10:58:13 AM
I think it's the fault of the toaster, not the Pop Tarts here.

2001-07-29 11:03:44 AM
Are you able to sue Kelloggs for that anyway, considering there are warnings printed on all boxes of Pop Tarts stating that there is a fire hazard if left unattended?

2001-07-29 11:06:30 AM
i always liked my pop tarts well done, what kinda hippy tree huggers are there people?

2001-07-29 11:15:10 AM
The article failed to mention she was toasting Gasoline-Rasberry.

2001-07-29 11:16:48 AM
I was reading that page about the flaming Pop Tarts that Bizarre posted. They say they use the non-frosted variety, yet the pictures clearly show a frosted pop tart. I feel violated.

It's a shame the house didn't burn down with this woman inside.

2001-07-29 11:29:57 AM
I guess she shouldn't have jump-started the heating elements with kerosene.
Seriously, if her toster was one of those "Black & Decker Space-Saver" models that clamp to the bottom of your cupboards, she might have a case. Consumer Reports did this thing about how when stuff (like toast) catches on fire, the toaster still happily pops open, allowing the flames to ignite the wood cabinets above. Black & Decker had a massive recall after that. They made it look like a GREAT gift to send to folks you don't like. Look for them at your local garage sales!

After reading BizarreBehavior's link (thanks), I've come to the conclusion that Kellogg Co. could well learn from the software industry, and include a shrink-wrap EULA in each pack. A "Hot when heated" kind of thing - perhaps "In flames when set alight".
How do the people who produce matches get around these kinds of lawsuits?
Then again, maybe that's the point. Matches are supposed to burn, whereas pop tarts are supposed to kill you by slower means.

I'll have another glass of water, please.

2001-07-29 12:16:23 PM
Hehe, nice link bizarre. I like the part about microwaving grapes! /me runs off to try it

2001-07-29 12:37:57 PM
BizarreBehavior- I was hoping someone would submit that one. That's the first funny thing I ever remeber seeing on the Internet, way back in '94.

MooKow: If you put a lightbulb in a half a glass of
water and microwave it, it'll glow.

overlord- REALLY?!?! gosh ill have to try that (at my one of my friends houses)

2001-07-29 01:03:29 PM
and maybe with one of those friends doing the work of putting the light bulb in the microwave.

I don't believe I've eaten a Pop Tart in over 25 years. They are just awful! Anyone idiotic enough to buy these iced slabs of cardboard deserves misfortune.

Judge Judy would laugh her ass off at this moron from (gee whiz!) Philadelphia! It seems folks just aren't too bright there.

2001-07-29 01:05:02 PM
Well, it worked when I tried it when I was in high school. If anything goes wrong, be sure you tell 'em you heard about it on Jackass or something.

Brenda Hurff of Washington Township put a cherry Pop-Tart in the toaster and left the house to drive her children to preschool, the newspaper said.

Looks like the wrong person is going to preschool.

2001-07-29 01:35:20 PM
The preschool wouldn't take the mother, her IQ was to low.

2001-07-29 01:41:50 PM
farking DUH!!! Pop Tarts are designed to ignite if left in the toaster for too long. These people are seriously mentaly-impaired.

-he who stacks pork

I like the idiotic lawyer that they got for this case..how the guy can talk about this stuff with a straight face...
p.s. why didn't she just eat the damned thing- i know 3 mins is a looong time to wait for a pop tart to the average busy american..

2001-07-29 01:50:27 PM
Common sense is dead.. turn off the light, close the door, and go to bed.

2001-07-29 02:09:54 PM
Anyone want to guess this biatches weight? I'll start the bidding at 250 lbs.

2001-07-29 02:42:34 PM
This leads me to beleive, that we must legalize pot!!!!

2001-07-29 02:54:06 PM
I wonder how good of a expert witness Dave Barry would make.

Putting something in the toaster and then leaving the house. This woman is dumber than a West Palm Beach voter.

Pop tarts burn pretty damn well. I was drunk once and was making some and passed out while they were in the toaster. Flames were shooting like 2 feet out of the toaster!

I think they put napalm inside them for filling.

Oky, let us look at what Pop Tarts are made of:

Suger, Oil, and Flour!

All those items when brought to the right temperature will BURN!!!!! I am talking flames, these people should stop eating anything that has oil, suger or flour in it at all! They will stop from stuff ever burning again! Oh, that is pretty well, every food products - starve and die, you owe it to us!

I wonder if she would sue a cake mix company for getting her cake burned, if she had done the same thing while baking.

The thing I hope most though is that they find this link on Fark and read about how stupid people think they are. In fact I would love the people who are in any artical like this to find Fark and realize thier stupidity!

Does anyone remember that commercial where the kid's mom would always give him pop tarts, then his friend would give him that other brand of morning shiat, then his friend would ask "What do you do with the pop tarts, anyway?" The kid then opens his locker and amazingly he fit hundreds of pop tarts into his locker. I was just thinking it'd be funny if those caught on fire and the whole school went up, haha. Maybe I just watch too much TV.

Besides, I eat the damn things cold. They just taste better that way.

2001-07-29 04:42:11 PM
Mog,

I remember, it was for an even safer product called toaster strudel. That has air pockets in it and burn even better than Pop tarts!

2001-07-29 05:09:30 PM
The fault may partially lay with the toaster... But the real fault is the person who's operating heat-producing devices without watching them. Mechanical things do break.

Okay, warning on the box.
Dosent that clear kellogs of all liability?
I would think so.
Everyone knows you NEVER leave food thats being cooked unattended.

The woman is just looking for someone else to blame but herself.

2001-07-29 05:55:22 PM
perhaps there can be some kind of counter-sue from the companys involved for defamation or something?

anyway...crush the paddlers in the gene pool.
let there be a warnng to others.

2001-07-29 06:27:56 PM
oh boy oh boy.....I've got an old toaster just sitting in my basement. As soon as I get some pop tarts, this will be great! I'll be sure to report back on the outcome.

AP Wire last night said that the couple is already preparing a suit against the Toaster people if this one falls through... IDIOTS...Should be shot for clogging the Courts

Seriously, if you leave something in the toaster, leave your house, then come back to your house 10-20 minutes later, you deserve to have your home on fire. A total lack of common sense doesn't deserve any money.

But...it does let one make clever images.

Yes, it's the new way to start a bonfire.

What a pity these greedy morons didn't go to bed instead of leaving the house -- They would have gotten well-deserved Darwin Awards.

2001-07-29 08:35:21 PM
REI- CTHULOOPS- LOL

Seriously, "flaming pop-tarts" sounds like a new derogatory nickname for gays.

You Flaming Pop-Tart

has a nice ring to it.
