They've got
no chance
no chance in hell

2007-11-13 03:27:32 PM
I saw the cut and uncut versions of the video.
It shows what truly disgusting pieces of crap that the media are and why you should never trust them.

.

//not a WWE fan
//could care less if they do steroids

How absolutely shocking that the news arm of a multimedia conglomerate would fabricate news to (presumably) support their political position (drugs are bad, mmkay).

/kinda makes Fair and Balanced seem a little more attractive
//would prefer Truthful and Unbiased

2007-11-13 06:13:49 PM
Thanks alonzinator, that's what i came for...

2007-11-13 06:16:14 PM
Well, the WWE owes society an apology.

2007-11-13 06:19:03 PM
Isn't it depressing when the news is more scripted than professional wrestling?

2007-11-13 06:19:22 PM
While we're at it let's apologize to all the Cena's. John Cena's momma, John Cena's poppa, cousin Jimmy-Jack Cena with the glass eye and John Cena's granny with the XXL dirty panties! IF YOU SMELLLLLLLLLLL....

Wait...sorry. Had a moment there.

2007-11-13 06:19:36 PM
M Bison: Well, the WWE owes society an apology.

care to explain i cant tell if you are kidding

that is insane that they would cut the interview like that. did they not think that cena would answer back when they made his answer to the question competely different?

/its still real to me or whatever

2007-11-13 06:19:51 PM
The Clinton News Network fabricate news?

That will ruin their ratings.

/if they ever get any
//ha, dweebs getting any

2007-11-13 06:19:54 PM
Why? Is the WWE real? I think this is way more real. (new window)

2007-11-13 06:19:57 PM
They cut the interview in such a way that it completely distorts what the man said.

So yes, they do owe the WWE and Cena an apology.

Editing should only happen to meet time constraints. Not to distort the facts so that they meet your agenda.

/I know, it's cable news.
//This isn't the first time, isn't the worst example, and won't be the last.

2007-11-13 06:20:08 PM
Will they? Probably not. I don't imagine there's a whole lot of overlap between CNN's audience and the WWE's audience, so I don't see CNN eating a slice of humble pie just to appease them.

M Bison: Well, the WWE owes society an apology.

I came here to say this. Also, McMahon is a loon and a pretty shiatty guy, CNN needn't have stooped to his level of sensationalism to get a story, it's already all out there.

2007-11-13 06:21:36 PM
Just an odd observation...anyone notice the only two wrestlers that haven't had a major physical change since the steroid crackdown are Batista and Cena? They seem to be the only heavyweights that haven't shrunk and flabbed up.

2007-11-13 06:21:46 PM
damn alonzinator, first thing I thought of, too.

/still the first one to think of it, damnit!

2007-11-13 06:23:44 PM
Strike #4,533 for CNN.
There's no such thing as a liberal bias in the media, there's just a sensationalist bias. Fox started it and CNN is racing to catch up.

Douchebags should be sued for slander.

/admittedly, I reaaaally don't care about anything related to wrestling

2007-11-13 06:24:14 PM
cretinbob,

A pox on your house for posting that.

While I completely agree that CNN farked this up in a big way, the WWE is worthless to society. It was mainly said in jest.

2007-11-13 06:24:39 PM
Subby CNN owes John Cena, Vince McMahon, and WWE an apology

You mean in addition to the apology it owes everyone for being a crappy cable "news" channel?

Yes yes, I know that "Faux" news belongs there as well.

CNN has been busted for chopping up a Hillary Clinton quote in the same way. Seems like they're equal opportunity when it comes to shenanigans like this.
\and don't even get me started on Howard Dean's "scream"
\\he was yelling over an enthusiastic crowd
\\\the sound of the roaring crowd was edited out
\\\\and the scream sans crowd played over and over again to reinforce in everyone's mind that "Dean is crazy"

2007-11-13 06:26:32 PM
They all are you know.

2007-11-13 06:26:39 PM
YOU KNOW WHAT WERE GONNA DO BROTHER! WE'RE GONNA SEND THE SUPERSTARS DOWN TO CNN AND LAY SOME SMACKDOWN ON THIS NOODLE-ARMED JABRONI TRYING TO PASS HIMSELF OFF AS A JOURNALIST.
WE'RE GONNA TAKE THAT MICROPHONE, TURN IT SIDEWAYS AND STICK IT STRAIGHT UP HIS CANDY AZZ!

AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE!

That's an absurd, asinine generalization that is an insult to the intelligence of everyone here.

Imagine a professional wrestler break into the CNN Newsroom and smack Anderson Cooper with a folding chair.

Then Lou Dobbs runs up and kicks the wrestler in the sack.

Since WWE is just entertainment and not a sport, will Hollywood be targeted next for drugs?

CNN? Don't hold your breath...

Three legged:

You watch the local news? Wow. How are the local versions of national reality programs and hard-hitting attempts to duplicate To Catch A Predator?

2007-11-13 06:31:45 PM
That's why I never delete or lose tapes of interviews I do. Much like the guy who wrote the article said, sometimes you do have to paraphrase or cut, because people ramble on. That said, you leave what they said intact and never change the meaning of what they said to fit your angle or bias.

I'm no fan of Cena, but what they did was pretty disgusting. It reminds me why I went into advertising, rather than journalism, even though I ended up being a music writer/journalist when all was said and done.

I remember being freaked out the first time I did a phone interview and realized the band's publicist had been listening the whole time, and was likely recording it and/or ready to step in at any moment if it went somewhere he didn't like. Then, I see things like this, and am reminded exactly why these people have to do things like that.

2007-11-13 06:32:22 PM
There's only one way to settle this, and it involves a steel cage.

2007-11-13 06:32:34 PM
Absolutely brutal reporting.

/sticks to BBC World

Robo Beat: Will they? Probably not. I don't imagine there's a whole lot of overlap between CNN's audience and the WWE's audience, so I don't see CNN eating a slice of humble pie just to appease them.

WWE's audience spans quite a large market, especially in bigger cities. Don't assume all of us who like wrestling are uneducated hicks who don't pay attention to the world around us. It's just another form of entertainment, no different than the TV shows you watch.

If they distorted the views of an ice skater [staged, performed athletics] would you say, "oh well, it's not like ice skating fans watch the news!" No, of course not.

Wrestling isn't high brow entertainment by any means, and most of us know this. It doesn't make it any less fun to watch.

/my dad got me into it when I was a kid, and it stuck with me.

Eh?

I mostly watch sports (GO COWBOYS!!) or the local stuff about the most recent redneck shooting or in last night's case, a garbage truck crashing into a pool.

All the other stuff gets faded out.

The TV shows I watch are usually a lot less homoerotic.

2007-11-13 06:37:27 PM
I don't find the WWE entertaining, know lots of people who do. Don't care about Cena's drug habits really. I do find it disgusting that CNN found it in themselves to edit an interview in such a way as to completely warp the answers. From reading the above posts I would guess that this is far from the first time they've been caught. I get most of my news from my local agencies and this is exactly why I have no desire to watch a national news station. They have NO credability left.

Q: "Have you ever taken steroids.
A: "Absolutely not."

Q: "Even back in bodybuilding days? Football days?"
A: "This is a crazy question and it's something that's tough to answer just because of the way society is now. The way people conceive things, because performance-enhancing drugs have got the spotlight and it's a hot thing to talk about. I can't tell you that I haven't, but you'll never be able to prove that I have."

So he's either a liar who used steroids or an idiot who didn't. Thanks for clearing that up...

It's not news.

It's CNN

What he's saying is: You're going to believe whatever you want, no matter how I answer that question. I have never done them, but the only answer that matters is "i have never been caught doing them".

It seemed very clear to me what he was trying to say.

they're those things Gatorade is loaded with, which helps me with my hangovers

People that look at Cena and go 'That has to be steroids' is a couch potato who's much too lazy-ass to go out and do it themselves.

People like Les from Survivorman who do the extreme for entertainment and then are thrown around with 'They cheated!!!' has got to wrench their stomachs.

2007-11-13 06:50:46 PM
Jesus H Christ...

CNN doesn't go after politicians that aggressively. The media is such a joke.
