felixstrange: WTF is up with the Japanese being so desperate to kill whales? Supposedly they're killing them for food, but the government actually subsidizes the whale meat industry because nobody actually wants to eat whale meat.

Bizarre...

So they can thumb their nose at the world?

I love babelfish. Hehe.

This is what Google's Language tools gave me:
"Godzilla, the reality is pain in the ass. He is now complete dishonored hopes, and he just leaves monster dates back to the island and we only."

Originally, I wrote, "That Godzilla is such pain in the ass. I hope his dishonor is complete, and he just goes back to Monster Island and leaves us alone."

What I want is something that will translate Japanese to English correctly, and also give the phonetic pronunciation of the Japanese text. I don't know how to say 遅延突き合わせモンキー.*

The unique male whale, named Migaloo - an Aboriginal word for "white fella"

So, racial slurs are A-OK when dark-skinned people use them, it seems. I'm willing to bet it's their equivalent of Guy Gibson's (black) dog in The Dambusters being called attractive and successful African-American.

Sigh. As a cannibal, I don't value other people over the prospect of a tasty meal. I eat people and routinely send pictures of their roasting carcasses to their family members. The rest of you non-people-eaters are a bunch of pussies.

Well, one of the main differences there is that people don't generally kill and eat the prostitute and she/he has a choice in the matter.

Yes but he was implying that since it's so old and supposedly "outdated" that it shouldn't be used. I was simply stating that since something's an old art/trade/whatever doesn't necessarily mean that it needs to be tossed out.

Sigh. As a cannibal, I don't value other people over the prospect of a tasty meal. I eat people and routinely send pictures of their roasting carcasses to their family members. The rest of you non-people-eaters are a bunch of pussies.

Well, if cannibalism was a societal norm and a fringe group tried to make me feel guilty about it, perhaps that would be appropriate. Restating what I suggested as you did is a logical fallacy. I'm not a cow, nor am I speaking of sending pictures to the herd from which my dinner was carved.

I don't have a problem with vegetarians, even ones who are so for moral reasons. I do have a problem with militant groups that attempt to force their views upon me. So my response is to push back against them - as we are both entitled to free speech.

Back to the actual point of the Boobies I made - I've seen some posts now that say the Japanese government subsidizes the whale meat industry. Does anyone have any background on that policy - there must be some deeper economic reason to be pushing their whaling operations like this. It can't all be simple arrogance, that's American territory dang it.

no. i dont think it is stupid to say that animals have no rights.

Further I did not say that profit was the only value that needed to be considered. I said it made sense to make profit, and a claim that whaling "makes no sense" is to claim that making profit makes no sense, or that whaling does not make profit.

Animals have no rights is as sweeping of a generalisation as plants have no rights, or rocks have no rights.

It is not the generalization to which you object, and to claim so is to fail to understand your own position.

Actually, it's ridiculous, but not fallacious. If I've decided that I'm superior to other human beings, why shouldn't I be able to use them for food?

To be honest. I'm not really interested in this discussion. I just think its funny when people are proud of themselves because they eat meat.

Also, the only people care or even pay attention to PETA are usually the aformentioned.

Exactly. Anti-whaling activists (particularly the foreign-based organizations) are going about this the entirely wrong way. They're using loud carnival tactics that only make Japan even more determined to continue whaling.

If the activists really cared about "saving the whales" instead of wanking themselves by "teaching those damn whale-killing Japs a lesson", then they could easily halt the whaling by appealing to Japanese nationalism. Large-scale whaling isn't some long honorable Japanese tradition, it was actually introduced by American occupation forces after World War 2 because postwar Japan had a severe shortage of protien food sources. Large-scale whaling is actually a symbol of Japan's defeat at the hands of the Allies.

That should give you some example of how incompetant, arrogant, and stupidly blind to basic Japanese psychology the anti-whaling activists are. They've annoyed the Japanese so much that Japan willingly continues to engage in a filthy-gaijin whaling JUST TO PISS THEM OFF. Honestly, at this point the activists would help the whales more if they'd just shut the fark up.

Yes? Of course it is. Personal morality is a different concept, but general morality is based on the values of whatever culture is in question. What the majority of people feel is right will be allowed and encouraged, what the majority feels is wrong will be illegal and punished. There isn't any other way to define morality.
