Gwendolyn: NO FUN

It looks like a freaking war zone. I work very close so they sent us home.

... scary

"It's very congested and there there's not a lot of movement, and we're asking anybody who has intentions of coming down to the area, and you might want to think of avoiding it," Drummond concludes. "Traffic is pretty much at a gridlock."

I can't tell if you are kidding or not. I cna't see my Canadian friends get all freaked out about a package. Then again most of them are crazy and usually drunk.

Gwendolyn: I can't tell if you are kidding or not.

Totally serious... freaked me out.

We went into a Business continuity situation briefly.

The cops just gave the all clear.

Apparently everything is just peachy now... except for the traffic.

All is well.

Great. I'm sure going home tonight now will be extra slow...

/afterall, it is all about me

A couple of months ago in Norfolk, VA, they shut down a major tunnel and surrounding intersections/interstate because of a suspicious package that turned out to be... a briefcase of clothing.

2007-11-09 04:31:44 PM
Easy way to get off work early on Friday. Place a suspicious package somewhere and that's it. You usually don't have to pull the fire alarm, and it's better without it because there's no way they can charge you with a crime if you forgot your paper bag full of screws in the lobby under a chair.

One of many reasons I hate alarm clocks.

2007-11-09 04:31:54 PM
what time was it set to go off at?

I came here for the moonitite and "Toronto's the new Boston" jokes, and I was not disappointed.

i need to go take an "evacuation" myself.

If the terrorists are still thinking that they have to use real explosives, they're missing a bet. Apparently all you have to do is leave an unaccompanied package somewhere in order to shut things down and get a lot of resources devoted to dealing with it. One trip to the local Mailboxes Etc. could net you enough material to shut down an entire city for a day.

i read that as "tokyo" and was prepared to run in here screaming "GOJIRA!!!!"

The reaction is just much more extreme. At a building I worked at in '97, we almost cleared the building until it was discovered that the "suspicious package" was Chinese food.

People leave their shiat laying around all the time, backpacks, briefcases, etc.

Ok, now I need a drink....

How's that TF account treating ya? ;)

Within 299 feet of that building is the CBC HQ, CSIS offices, and the CN Tower.

I'm not allowed to discuss what is actually in that building... so don't ask.

Great! I'm spending even more time on Fark now. The discussion are definitely a lot more interesting on the dark side. You may have me hooked.

Every package is a suspicious package.

/Especially the package in subby's pants

2007-11-09 04:45:17 PM
Actually throwers don't worry about ticking 'cause modern bombs don't tick. Nine times out of ten it's an electric razor, but every once in a while.... it's a dildo. Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article 'a dildo,' never 'your dildo.'

The Dark Side is a bit of fun, especially on Friday nights, but I refuse to buy my own sub. I'd rather earn it.

Kinda makes it more fun that way.
