How many times has this story come out now? (and how many times has this headline been done?)

/drewstradamus wrote it in his book

2007-11-08 11:13:06 AM
the beast is still $11.00 a case

2007-11-08 11:13:15 AM
Where have I seen this before?

2007-11-08 11:14:19 AM
Generally, I am opposed to "old news", but in this case the price of beer should on everybody's mind!

2007-11-08 11:14:20 AM
-You're out there somewhere Beer Baron! And I'll find you.
-No you won't!

/not the same case, but made me think of it

2007-11-08 11:14:53 AM
That's OK, I'll just use my canadian money to buy you guys some beers. It was at about 1.10$ yesterday. Awesome.

2007-11-08 11:18:13 AM
No big deal, I'll just switch over to the liquor backup Jack Daniels. Oh wait, isn't that drying up with the drought in the South East? EVERYONE PANIC!!!1!!1

Quarts of Mickey's are still a $1.

What is this beast? EDBL is still 13.98$ a case.

I went into the local brewery supply shot and got the ingredients to make a 5 gallon batch. Hops were $2.00 an ounce instead of the usual $1.50 an ounce. All together that raises the price of a 5 gallon batch from about $35 up to a staggering $36 dollars. Really not a huge deal.

2007-11-08 11:21:20 AM
Oh man, just imagine how elite TF'ers will be if they have to scrape the extra $1.00 out of their couch cushions to pay for the increase.

That's like, half of their weekly allowance. They'll have to get out of mom's basement and get a job or something.

2007-11-08 11:22:35 AM
Aren't all prices on the rise? I thought that was called 'inflation'.

You mass produced American swill drinkers need not worry. Rice is still plentiful.

I knew someone would go there. Let's just all agree that everyone except for me has horrible taste in beer, unless they drink the same beers that I do, which are the best.

The over-supply was a result of Coors dropping a number of hops farmers and bottoming-out the value. Everybody stopped growing it.

You can thank Coors.

I haven't noticed any price increase in the malts or extracts. My LHBS still has most varieties of hops available. No change in hops prices yet either.

When I asked about this situation, the owner said that perhaps it was certain distributers that were out of hops. If a brewery relies on 1 distributer, then there may be problems.

All I know is I have my fat tire clone ingredients ready to go.

Hops accounts for a higher % of total costs for a brewery than it does for you.

And it will result in pricier beer, and no end is in site.

I always thought it was damn gubment raising the alcohol/tobacco tax to pay for some pork project for their constituents.

Here in SC we just recently got the green light for "high gravity" beers (>5% ABV) so I'm enjoying, finally, Belgian ales at will. Unless they just raise their prices to match the world market, I should be okay.

Oh, who am I kidding... I'm not in college any more, I can afford beer regardless. And Quantum Apostrophe, you've neglected to mention that beer already costs $8-12 per sixer in Canada. And thats like, what, 8-12 dollars American?

According to one of the guys from the local brewery, it's the increasing costs of producing grain that are driving up the prices.

Noonan: I can't pay you. Lou has to.
D'Annunzio: Where is he?
Noonan: He's out.
D'Annunzio: I can see that he's out, numbnuts.

[Gives Danny a dollar]

D'Annunzio: Give me a Coke.
Noonan: One Coke.

[Gives Tony a bottle of Coke and 50 cents]

D'Annunzio: Hey wait a minute. That's only 50 cents.
Noonan: Yeah, well Lou raised the price of Coke. He's been losing at the track.
D'Annunzio: Well, I ain't paying no 50 cents for no Coke.
Noonan: Woah ho, then you don't get no Coke! Know what I'm talking about?

Drew the easiest way is to charge in Euro instead of USD. That way it still SOUNDS cheap, but you're being paid in real money instead of worthless dollars.

This is merely a thinly diguised trial balloon to see who will pay more for TotalFark.

And yes I would pay more.

Within reason.

Came here to say this. Was there ever a time when every headline wasn't a pathetic kissing of Drew's ass? Wow, he likes beer, and sometimes gets drunk. That is so hilarious!

I make a point of not using the referrer for all such headlines.

And now that one Euro costs nearly $1.50, expect the delicious European beers (no, I'm not talking about Heineken) to be even more expensive.

I thought the beer prices raising were due to a hops shortage??? Now it's barley too??? WTF

Crown_of_Shoes: The over-supply was a result of Coors dropping a number of hops farmers and bottoming-out the value. Everybody stopped growing it.

I thought the cause was due to all the farmers trying to grow corn and not having an adequate supply of hops to sell. This was news about 4 months ago.

2007-11-08 12:20:53 PM
HunterNIU, where do you find 120? Can't get it here.

Tawnos, Utopias is not beer. I mean maybe it is technically, but it tastes like cognac.

My recent favorite: Sweetwater Donkey Punch

Guidomyte: Crown

They only stopped growing hops because the market dried up overnight. Now there is a shortage, kind of a bounce-back.

I think the Coors thing happened about 10 years ago.

I've got a solution. The government pays farmers to grow nothing, right? Well, why don't those farmers start growing hops and barley? Crisis averted.

Let them grow Marijuana. We'll just have to make due with hopping with hemp.
