Funny thing, here in North Florida, the cops don't just rip up the plants when they find them growing in the forest. They set up wireless CCTV in the trees and film the "farmers" for a few days, maybe a week...THEN they bust them and pull the plants.

Then the rest of us cry and cry and cry...

Cheap AM radio tuned to the local news station would NOT have helped these Einsteins?

Might have, could have worked if it wasn't for those DARN KIDS

Note to the harvesters: If you're going to plant a guerilla patch out in the woods, invest in some night vision and harvest it in the dark.

Let's see... two plants weighting 1/2 ounce each, plus four square feet of mountain dirt where the roots extended, weighing in at 15 lbs.

Yep, that comes to $25,000

Didn't RTFA.

Stop the persecution. Making it legal makes it cheap.

If the hikers had died in the woods at least they could have been comforted by the thought that the police had instead used their time to hunt down dangerous pot growers.

deputies stumbled upon $25,000 in marijuana

Since that's apparently a cop number, it's really worth about $2500.

search and rescue team responded and brought along some of the group's teenage volunteers

Nothing says "we care about your safety and well-being" like sending a crowd of ignorant punks to look for you when you're lost in the woods.

Ugh. I RTFA. "Sorry your friend died of gangrene, but something more important came up--pot farmers." Pot Farmers! What a wonderful analogy to the war on drugs as a whole.

Sorry, no tax money for ____________, we had to build prisons to hold pot smokers.

Judging from that picture, it seems like $25,000 is probably a pretty reasonable estimate. If an eighth is $50, that would mean that $25,000 is just under 4lbs. There seems to be about that there.

uh... why would they suspend a search and rescue operation of people who could possibly be injured and near death to catch a couple of pot growers? Seems kind of stupid... You'd think saving people would be slightly more important at the time.

Apparently a couple plants are worth more to them than a couple human lives. ...'Course, we all knew they didn't give a shiat about the hikers when TFA mentioned that the "rescuers" were a bunch of dumbass kids.

I started cooking with the herb about a couple months ago, and I am wondering if you could help me. I checked your profile for an e-mail address and saw you're a fellow Tallahassite, so I thought that was pretty rad.

So do you get the butter to yield a dark green color when it's done? I've done it three times now with varying amounts of butter and weed, simmering between 45 minutes to a couple hours. Each time it's just tinted green. It reeks and produces a good buzz, but I was wondering if I was missing something. I've seen some people make weed butter a murky, evil shade of green, and I haven't been able to replicate it yet.

I don't know if this matters, but I've been using Irish butter for its ultra fat content. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the fat helps extract the THC.

The four people dropped their bags and ran, according to police

They panicked and gave themselves away. Chances are they could have just went wide and no one would have been the wiser. They could have had hiking gear, and people in the woods with duffle bags don't look too suspicious.

Do you use water?

Do you freeze it first, before running it through a coffee grinder?

You can use a bit of alcohol on the ground material to help emulsify the THC.

filter with nylons,

Put it in the freezer to solidify the butter on top of the water and water soluable crap.

Can I sign up for the work detail? Plus, I'd like to humbly suggest that we burn it in small amounts to make sure combustion is complete and that nothing is wasted... err... I mean make sure that nothing is left to pollute the children's minds.

Fat does help, but you don't necessarily have to use butter (which i find difficult and messy). I usually make cookies, specifically oatmeal. I use oil in the recipe, which helps with the absorption of THC, while the brown sugar and maple syrup add sweetness to counter the bitterness of the herb.

Check around online for alternatives.

Supremely intriguing. So freeze the herb before grinding it?

Also, do you simmer the water with the butter and then freeze it?

I'ma check around for some more recipes online while I munch on this bread and butter :)

Sybarite: If the hikers had died in the woods at least they could have been comforted by the thought that the police had instead used their time to hunt down dangerous pot growers.

Oftentimes, guerrilla pot growers are dangerous. They're notorious for shooting hikers or forest rangers who stumble upon their patches, and for setting various kinds of dangerous traps (all the way from hanging fishhooks at eye level to explosives.)

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it should be illegal, but a backcountry pot farm is not a safe thing to find by any means. They made the right decision in suspending the search until they'd secured the area.

Wolfen067: D-D-D-Dave:

Blah blah blah, not quoting everything again...

Remember, you don't really want the green. Green = plant, not THC.

Yes, fat helps. THC can't really be processed by the body as-is, it has to hitch a ride on another molecule. Lactose, alcohol, these work quite well. Hot buttered rum, yum yum :)

Skip the nylon hose, go straight to arts supplies for a silk screen frame, around $20 or less.
