Completely different animal. The actual invasion and taking of Iraq was a relative cakewalk (not to diminish the sacrifices of the men and women who died in the operation). This would not be the case in Iran.

Just some back story on Iran/US relations.

In 1979 Iranian students threatened to storm the US embassy in Tehran. They claimed that the US were spies.

The Iranian government warned the US that this was about to happen and suggested that the US leave through the Canadian Embassy.

The US evacuated everyone except the spies who were caught red-handed shredding documents when the embassy was stormed.

No one was hurt or killed by the students who were holding the American spies.

Once order was restored, Iran asked that the US apologize for spying on them. We refused.

Our relationship crumbled.

Fast forward to September 2001...Right after the events of 9/11, Iran extended their sympathy and support in any way possible.
The US took them up on the offer asking for the Northern Alliance (Iran trained and backed troops in Afghanistan) to help bring down the Taliban in Afghanistan. They did so, supplying 75% of the ground troops in the initial stages of the war.

Iran thought that the US and they could become allies again and start patching up the broken bridges between our two states.

A few months later Dubya calls them one of the Axis of Evil, to the great surprise of Iran.

The Bush administration needs perpetual war to keep itself going. We will go to war with Iran before Bush leaves office.

Well, he glossed over the myriad examples of Iran's blatant support of vicious terrorism acroos the globe, but summed up Bush's incompetence pretty well.

5.5/10.

Just wait 'till the Czar chimes in. Then, you'll get a much clearer and well-researched summation.

I've been hearing for some time now that Bush/Cheney are DEFINITELY going to invade Iran. Just like I've heard for the past 5 years that they're DEFINITELY going to reinstate the draft...and a recession is DEFINITELY been around the corner for the past 7 years...and Bush is DEFINITELY going to remove presidential term limits...

Anybody think these idiots may be wrong?

Folks, it is going to get ugly if the democrats elect clinton or obama. They have no spine and do not know what it takes to defend this country. it is somewhat comforting to know that Bush and Cheney are going to be around for another year and a half. Thats enough time to deal with Iran forcefully before it gets nukes and gives them to al-quaeda. the only defense is a good offense. lets rock and roll before the libtards take over and decide to appease Iran with trade deals and happy summit meetings.

Turn off your television and read some history. You might learn what the United States has caused to happen in Iran over the decades and you might...just might...gain some understanding not entirely present in your snarky remarky.

Right. Its too bad Obama isn't prez yet. All he has to do is talk to Iran and everything will be hunky dory. After all, he "studied abroad" - so he's qualified to be an authority on foreign policy.

What Dubya should say is, "no matter what happens, we will never ever ever attack Iran."

Not gonna happen.

Unless/until Iran makes serious progress toward making a nuclear weapon, we are not going to attack, much less invade Iran. Put your dicks back in your pants, take a cold shower. i say that to both the left and the right. The right is always champing at the bit for a bit of ultraviolence and the left who is looking for more signs of Bush's lunacy. Sorry to disappoint you all, but it ain't gonna happen for the foreseeable future. It is far more likely that the UN will do some big sanctions next year, followed by either Israel doing some surgical strikes or Iran backing down.

Actualy, yes they did. How many times has the US homeland been attacked since 9/11? Zero. How many times has Sadaam threatened his neighbors and the world since we liberated Iraq? Zero. Oh, and he is dead and his regime gone. But dont let the facts get in the way of your liberal rant.

Why does anyone HAVE to be the bad guy? Or the good guy? There is a plague in this country of the type of ignorance that doesn't realize that there can be differences without there being a good guy or a bad guy. For every fault you point out about Iran there can be an argument made that we (or anyone else for that matter) have (has) done something worse.

OK, let me get a few things straight here.

Iran took 50 Americans hostage for over a year in the late 1970s.

Iran has provided Palestinian terrorist group Hamas with financial and military support.

Iran has provided Lebanese terrorist group Hizbollah with financial and military support and played a big role in their war with Israel several years ago, and the weapons provided by Iran unequivocally helped Hizbollah destroy several Israeli tanks.

Iran has supported the corrupt Syrian regime which assassinated Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri several years ago.

Iran also helped Syria acquire the nuclear material which Israel recently destroyed in a bombing run.

Iran has (allegedly) provided support to the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Iran has provided military and financial support to Shi'ite factions in Iraq in an attempt to destabilize the country.

Iran took several British sailors hostage in the last year after making up a ridiculous story about them being in Iranian territorial waters (they were provably in Iraqi waters).

Many analysts also believe Iran has been working hard to acquire the material needed to create nuclear weapons, and given the way Iran has continually lied and jerked around the United Nations in this area, only an idiot would believe their intentions are benign.

Iran's leader has repeatedly denied the Holocaust and called for the destruction of Israel.

Iran is undeniably the world's chief exporter and supporter of Islamofascist terrorism.

What exactly is the problem with bombing the hell out of Iran's military?

We very rarely actually declare war. For instance, we didn't in Iraq. So when someone says, "we're at war", they're talking out of their ass.
