Nice headline indeed. Miserable article. I could never figure out how somebody could not be crucified for that. The July 7 bombings were horrific indeed. That doesn't give authorities carte blanche to execute an innocent man for doing nothing wrong.

Worse yet they lied and claimed he was acting suspiciously -- wearing bulky clothing, hopping the railing. Neither of those things even occurred (let alone are offenses which are grounds for summary execution without trial). And if that wasn't enough, were only forthcoming with an acknowledgment of their untruths when the correct information was leaked.

Apparently killing innocent people is wrong and lying about it is wrong -- unless you're an authority figure.

My god, how can open season on these people not be declared when something like this happens?

Not to worry, they exceeded that number by a handy five.

Seven shots to the head.

I just saw Our Friends in the North, which is a play about corruption in Newcastle, the Met, and the House of Commons (re: Rhodesia/Zimbabwe).

They should extend it to cover this. Sickening.

No, I'm pretty sure it's properly "Weekend grammar Nazi" -- weekend capitalized as the first word of a sentence, grammar is not capitalized, and Nazi is a proper noun (albeit a diminutive one, like Bill for William).

Don't sweat it, it's not the weekend yet.

I was going to say how did a person get shot in England? Don't they have a gun ban there? Then I saw it was the cops who did it, so that makes it OK.

/Didn't the cops know he wouldn't be armed because of the handgun ban? I thought that was the purpose of it.

Note the person they are talking about in the article has never killed anyone to my knowledge, innocent or not. This is specifically about whether the guy in charge of the force at the time should resign or not, which is a different question than whether the actual perpetrators of the attack should be crucified for their mistakes.

I guess there are a couple of ways you can look at it - whenever his subordinates do something sufficiently bad he should resign as a showpiece to mollify the victims or their families, or he should only resign if policies that he personal was involved in setting up were material in causing the incident to happen. Personally I lean towards the second view, but accept that it could be very hard to tell whether he really did help cause the events of that day through his actions.

Ian Blair is in the running for biggest twat I can think of. His remorseless, scaremongering arse should've been drop-kicked before the shooting ever happened. At this point, he should locked up.

He won't be, of course. He'll probably hold his position for years to come. Such is the way of things.

Erm...yeah but if you think that JCDM was completely innocent think again..he was acting suspiciously did not have a visa in this country and was carrying a bag...

The terrorists may well have won, but i'm quite glad that somebody had the balls to put 5 bullets in his head. I just think it's hilarious that we have the health and safety review afterwards!

Say no more! They should have pulled his pants down and spanked him for that one. Carrying a bag!

When the fuzz are so piss-scared that they'll shoot someone for carrying a bag and "acting suspiciously", yes.

was carrying a bag didn't stop when told to...umm..if i thought you were a terrorist about to make a crater sized shape in london and you didn't stop when i shouted stop...I'd shoot you myself!

You would be up in arms if a bomb had gone off, stop being a whinging lefty git and face up to a few truths. Like

1)The police had no record of him being in the country due to his EXPIRED/NON EXISTANT visa

2)The country was on high alert

3)He was acting suspiciously, refused to stop when told to and spoke very little english.

4)You have a small penis....

moel: was carrying a bag didn't stop when told to...umm..if i thought you were a terrorist about to make a crater sized shape in london and you didn't stop when i shouted stop...I'd shoot you myself!

This is, in fact, a lie. He wasn't carrying any bag whatsoever, as he had left his tool bag with his colleagues the day before.

Also, he was not told to stop.

Neither of the incidences occured.

Granted you're a troll, it's obvious from the "you have a small penis" comment that you're trolling, but God forbid somebody come in this thread and actually believe your slander of an innocent man.

He did help in the subsequent cover up (repeating the false statements and then subsequently defending the tactics used when the tactics used quite clearly failed). He should not resign, he should be terminated. In the job sense.
