(Christian Science Monitor)   Cultural shifts after 9/11 result in classic prankster colleges, like Caltech, asking students to submit pranks in writing before being performed, and students being questioned if they want to be voluntarily involved in a prank. DulceEtDecorumEst: It's not like they are arresting anyone. In the post 911 world it is better if we al help a little. Lrge public demonstrastions could be an easy terrorist cover. Just stop whining and help keep the us safe and we can focus on the real threats.

If only there were some rebuttal I could offer (new window) to your jingoism...

I suppose that, as Joshg said, it's better than a zero tolerance program. But not by a lot.

Personally, if I was that age and in college, I'd be wanting to get a copy of the "Do not prank me this way" list and see how many of those whiney babies I could prank. Partly because pranks that have official approval are not the same, and partly because the pussies that would put their name on a list and say "These pranks are not acceptable" are the kind of people that deserve to get pranked.

Silly Christian Science Monitor, don't they know the preferred AP term for 9/11 is Sept. 11?

JSTACAT: ""At the moment when Caltech's name unfurled across the stadium, NBC's cameras were focused directly on the flip-card show, providing the best possible vantage point for viewers across the nation to watch the ensuing drama. Washington's band, upon seeing the gigantic rogue name leering down at them from the stands, immediately stopped playing, and silence descended on the stadium. Even the television announcers were momentarily speechless. For a few seconds this silent tension enveloped the entire stadium. Finally the significance of what had just happened began to sink in, and then the laughter began.

Infuriated, the Washington band marched off the field, refusing to give the signal for the 15th, and final, image (which unbeknownst to them had been left unaltered). Gradually the laughter died down and the game continued. The Washington team managed to maintain its lead during the second half but didn't score any more points. The final score was 17-7.

To this day the Great Rose Bowl Hoax, as it was soon dubbed, remains one of the best known college pranks ever perpetrated"

I'd worry less about your potential kids living in a boring world, and more about their living in a sickening world full of idiots, cheaters, human suffering, and injustice, to which they can't make a significant difference because all the power is in the hands of leaders who don't give a crap and (in the lucky countries which have democracy) voters who don't give a crap and are also stupid.

There are worse things than boring.

Bullshiat. I'll tell you what: if you're on campus and something is going on and you get a little scared and want to hold mommy's hand just remember this: it's nothing to do with terrorists. Really, whatever fear the media has tried to shove down your throat, it honestly isn't terrorists. That brown guy looking a little shifty on the bus? He's not a terrorist either. Those "Lrge public demonstrastions" [sic]? Yep, also absolutely fark all to do with terrorists.

This. I'd leave, but apparently every country that speaks English has jumped off a cliff into fascism. I should learn Dutch or something, at least in Amsterdam I could just get high and ignore all the other bullshiat.

frostyservant excellent. I remember reading that poem in school, and it's still one of the best statements against the old shrill cry of "my country, right or wrong". When a-grade twats like Dulce above, trolling or no, can still sprout their lines after going through what Owens did... (rather than glorifying in Call to Arms IV).

War might be necessary in some circumstances, but it ain't glorious.

Fart_Machine: So the terrorists have truly won.

These last few years remind me of one of those gradeschool T-Ball games. It really isn't worth mentioning which team "won" anymore, since the game was over three innings ago. We're just still playing. It's 106-4, but they refuse to call the game since ending it early to say that our team lost might hurt one of the precious snowflake's feelings.

So now we're stuck here, waiting for this game to end. The proud parents are forced to sit on uncomfortable bleachers with no beer while their retard children whiffs again, then runs to third. Sure we pretend to smile and be supportive, but all we really want is for this damn thing to end so we can get snowcones and go the fark home.

it allows for administrations small and large to do whatever the hell they want to gain more control.

Psh. There's no way I'm asking permission (retroactively) for the huge pumpkin my friends and I put on the head of our campus's statue last night. That would just be silly.

FTFA: "We tell students during orientation, 'If you don't want to have certain things or yourself or any of your stuff pranked, let us know, and we'll put you on a list.' "

My first priority as a Senior here would be to get hold of that list and have the snot beaten out of everyone on it.

Pussies.

I would approve of this, if it resulted in you getting the dirt kicked out of you, and subsequently expelled from school.

Respect other people's boundaries, ass.

You must the guy who's door I glued shut after filling your dorm room full to the ceiling with wadded up newspapers. A belated mea culpa then -- we didn't realize you'd still be such a humorless little biatch about it after all these years.

If it saves even one student from feeling slightly uncomfortable, it's worth it.
