I blame all of this on DARE. DARE either made a whole generation of kids curious about the shiat, or else the kids saw through the horror stories and don't believe that ANY use of drugs is bad--in fact we have gone full circle from when I was in high school, when drinking and drugs were COOL. Now it's COOL again. Having sex is not cool.

I am completely full of shiat. No flames please.

Or maybe we can blame the parents for it all.

Damn kids, with their hoola-hoops and "flat tops". I can't believe these whipper snappers today. Wy hell when I was in grade school I used to drink a pint of Ma' maws, slap yo' mama, iced tea before school every morning. It was the finest shine around, look at me now.

I graduated the third grade, I'm only on my third liver, and I got my own truck. Tell me drinking is bad for you....shooooo

CandyPink - amen sister. You are me to a T. Didn't drink in high school...but oh man, freshman year of college is a blur. Of course after that year I didn't really have much interest in it anymore again.

Runin800m - Having experienced both drunkeness and was definitely, at times, more fun to have a laugh at those high school kids wasted then it was to be wasted. I have so many fun memories of the things my friends did drunk and it's so enjoyable to torment them about how funny and stupid they were. They just remember it with shame. Besides, I still had a blast and it was good that I was there to be the DD. It's not like I shunned them for drinking and sat around lecturing everyone the whole time.

Oh, how that takes me back...swaying in my chair in English class. Good times. It was great going to school in a country with no legal drinking age.

"There's a time and a place for everything, and it's called college." -- Chef

Man, I get drunk in class sometimes. Nothing like taking a flask of rum, a bottle of coke, and a smile to a computer science lecture.

Never drank in high school.

It wasn't until grad school that I really had something to drink about. **shudder**

There's nothing wrong with getting drunk. We all did it (at least the non-losers did) and we survived.

And it's not called binge drinking. What they classify as binge drinking I would call having a few. Their idea of safe drinking is 3 beers a week. 3 beers sounds more like breakfast.

And yes, I am cool because I drink. Honestly, I can't imagine not wanting to. If you can find a substance in the world that makes life more fun than alcohol (legal, mind you), please tell me about it.

/end rant

Sounds to me like these teachs probably teach in a pretty affluent neighborhood where little spoiled rich kids don't have boundaries from their parents. When I was in HS, NO ONE came to school like that on Monday because if they did the'd be reported and the parents would be called and they'd have the &*$% beaten out of them! I'm glad I'll be teaching in the chicago ps. Nice middle and lower income families whose kids have RULES.
On that note, did anyone catch the Dateline NBC last night about the LA rich girl who got killed at a party where the parents weren't around? All that shiat went down and their parents are STILL letting these kids go to parties and get wasted! Geez, I mean take away the BMWs and stuff, people!
